    Glad I got back into scale modeling after a 30 year hiatus. Back then, before the Internet, all you had available was what K-Mart sold. I mostly remember those little Testor's paint bottles.

      Welcome back to the hobby. Yes, so many more options these days and it's been great to see these many of these kits are more accurate too. Along with better paints, detailing supplies and photo etch parts you can really go to another level for sure. Thanks for watching.

    You are a very talented modeler. Great job. The snowspeeder is my most favorite ship of the SW universe. I've built the monogram kit from the 80's and I still have it to this day. The chipping technique I used was vaseline and a very fine point brush which also works quite well. Liquid mask works great too (just don't have to do as much peeling or rubbing off with vaseline). But either technique gets the same results :). Also, I used eye shadow powder makeups for a lot of weathering as well (pastels are great too when you grind them into powder).

      @InterstellarModeler  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes....interesting about the eye shadow because the Tamyia Weathering set looks just like an eye make up kit :) Thanks for your kind comments and for watching. I really appreciate it.

    This, in many Star Wars novels, is described as an "Airspeeder" that is used on many planets, with various colour schemes depending on the world they're on, from snow/desert/jungle etc, so you can paint it in any number of different schemes, not just stick to the generic snow pattern.

      thanks....may have to try that next time. I have an extra one in my stash.

    Seems to be shaping up nicely. This is one of my favorite kits and I actually picked one up a while ago; its waiting to be painted now. I've seen the snow wash used before and I have to say, it looks incredible; I'm anxious to see what the kit looks like with it applied.

    Fantastic review and build! -Inspired me to buy this kit! Could you give me the name of your video where you go into the hairspray/salt technique? Thank you and keep the vids coming!

      Hi, thanks for the compliment. Here are 2 links for you to review that demo the salt technique. The first shows the basic technique. The 2nd features the technique on a Bandai A-Wing. I was able to achieve finer chips and stippling by grinding the salt down to finer consistency. This seems to achieve a more realistic, in-scale look for the Bandai SWars models which are smaller in scale. Hope that helps, thanks for watching. th-cam.com/video/J9qHNTcdftA/w-d-xo.html

    I tried the salt as well. I used a light primer. Is that the issue? Should it be a dark primer? Also what kind of hair spray is best?

    • @InterstellarModeler
      @InterstellarModeler  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use a medium to dark gray primer which i think gives you better contrast for the effect. As for the hairspray....just the cheap stuff like Aquanet which you can find at CVS works perfectly well. Hope that helps.

    I noticed that you always paint the ship pieces on the sprue and then cutting them off after painting. How do you deal with having to trip and sand excess plastic on the pieces after they’ve been painted without ruining the paint? Thanks.

    • @InterstellarModeler
      @InterstellarModeler  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jarrett Little i often do but not always. If I think there will be lots of trimming/sanding required I’ll take them off the tree. Otherwise I carefully sand as needed then touch up w/paint afterwards. Leaving them on makes them easier for me to handle and keeps pieces from getting lost. It’s just a habit I’ve always had. Thanks

      Interstellar Modeler oh ok thanks. Second question. I tried using liquid masking for the first time recently. I used the vallejo liquid mask in conjunction with Vallejo model aid paint. When I peeled the liquid mask off it didn’t make a clean line but kind of peeled some extra paint off leaving an uneven surface. Any thoughts?

    • @InterstellarModeler
      @InterstellarModeler  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      This can definitely be an issue with liquid masking fluid....try running a sharp Exacto along the edges before peeling away.

    What paint color did you use just after adding the salt and hairspray?

    • @InterstellarModeler
      @InterstellarModeler  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used Testors Light Gray for the hull color. If I remember correctly the salt / hairspray was applied onto the gray primer.

      @@InterstellarModeler Yhanks for getting back to me! Managed to finish mine using your methods. I had a bit of difficulty when it cam to the wash, I found I was pushing what was covering the panels around when trying to tidy the lines. I think it turned out ok tho ;)

    Was the primer the only coat you covered the model in before you sprinkled the salt?

    • @InterstellarModeler
      @InterstellarModeler  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Todd Maggiore yes....although you could also apply a dark brown to simulate a little rust in some areas.

    • @bigsexy7167
      @bigsexy7167 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did the same thing, however I don’t get the dark chipped look. I get the original plastic. That’s why I was wondering if you applied another coat of paint after you primed it. Guess I just have to play around with it. Thanks for the tip with the rust!

    • @InterstellarModeler
      @InterstellarModeler  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmmm, not sure why that is happening, are you scrubbing too hard possibly? You could apply a dull clear coat over the primer to seal it. That should protect it better. Also experiment a little more by gently rubbing off the salt. You could try removing the salt by just wetting your finger with water and rubbing it off that way.
