    You hit the nail on the head. You'd be a fool NOT to change your setup moving from Florida to Utah. Huge climate and terrain difference. New challenges and obstacles. You did the smart thing.

    Jason I think what the jack wagon was saying is that there are people who emulate/copy your build and when you change yours it make them "feel" like they have to keep up with the "Jones's". Keep up your videos. They are different and I like them.

    Don’t feed the trolls man. If someone has a problem with the way someone else they don’t even know lives their life or makes their decisions to the point that they want to make a bunch of negative TH-cam comments about it then they are lacking something in their life.
    Keep up with the great videos. The new scenery you’re living in makes me a little jealous but thanks to your videos I’m spending more time exploring Pisgah NF and camping with my family. I just wish my videos turned out as good.

And dont loose sight that your doing these overland trips for your enjoyment and your just bringing us along. We; your youtube viewers are just along for the ride. Silent partners if you will...
    So mod on and wheel on ... screw the haters brudda. I love what your doing... keep it up
    Ps. I dont agree with your rear bumper choice but thats what it is my opinion and it aint my rig.... ITS YOURS!!! Enjoy it

    I think we use the words "Modifying" and "Upgrading" too loosely. They are not the same. Your build has shown growth. While that comment has valid points, it fails to consider the improvements. As we upgrade our vehicles, we take our adventures to another level and sometimes that identifies limitations, so we take it a step further. My ORP is basically heading in your initial direction, and living in FL, I feel that it will work for my needs long term.

  • @ewingfox6459
    @ewingfox6459 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    1. Anyone who doesn't change their minds and develop new opinions are stagnant and fail to learn .
    2. @Jason Koertge runs a You-Tube channel that focuses on his trips and his build - if he doesn't keep changing things, he can't share new information and develop new content.
    - Now, while we all tend to 'level up' our rigs over time, because YT creators need to keep developing content, all of their rigs tend to move from moderate touring to more extreme and expensive - this is great for manufacturers (and leads to awesome content for us for sure!!) but also does lead to people following along , not doing their own thinking - and tend to overbuild for their purpose - we all don't need/want steel bumpers, HD winches, roof racks and RTT's that make our rigs top-heavy and less efficient.
    Jason a dope for doing this? No! his content is great and he is a great resource for learning and seeing products being used in the field. It is his job, and he is good at it.
    Are people dumb for overbuilding their rigs to stay current with YT trends? Well, personally, I think they are (a lot of daily drivers out there with rooftop tents and have never seen mud) - but whatever. More $$ in this industry means more development and better products for those of us who really build to suit a specific need. Keep up the great content, keep evolving, keep taking your kiddos out on great adventures!

  • @myytchannel6632
    @myytchannel6632 5 ปีที่แล้ว +27

    Dang! What a rant. You truly blew out some steam there.
    But you do not have for any reason try to justify yourself for spending $10,000 to $15,000 of your hard earned money on your car. You do not have to explain that nobody. It is your car, it is your money. Turn it into a rock crawler if you want even. It is your choice.
    Just be realistic and know that you post on youtube. So some people across the country or the world would always post some things that may hurt your feelings. It is just normal. But hey, it is to be expected.
    Just brush it off and do not explain yourself to justify why you spent your own money on your own vehicle. Forget them.
    Looking forward to your next video. You do great work in your videos. Keep it up.

    Your beating a dead horse trying to figure out someone's 2 cent opinion/question. Keep doing what your doing. We're all learning here. My personal favorite is when you in another video suggested "buy it as you need it." I think that was a very wise statement. I'm definitely sticking to that one. Thanks for all your videos and don't forget to enjoy your amazing trips without the worry of putting it all on camera.

  • @waywardescapes4384
    @waywardescapes4384 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Here’s the deal - you don’t know until you know. You can do all the research on mods until you’re blue in the face, but eventually you have to pull the trigger and make a decision that’s the best compromise of your needs, wants, and budget. Once you’ve pulled the trigger you then have to hit the trails for a real world shakedown cruise to test that decision. Sometimes things work out for the best, and sometimes it’s an “oh f*ck it!” moment and you make changes. It’s a journey not a destination. End of story.

    @jimwentz 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm glad you ended it with "needs or wants change". That's the reason. If pressed, it can have to do with changing your direction or it could have to do with growth in understanding or both. If someone flames you for it, that is really their problem. understandably but unnecessarily you can take it as your problem but you have to learn to cope with it.

  • @billynunns
    @billynunns 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    You're right, it doesn't make sense. (Sarcasm)
    How you built the vehicle is the smart way to do it. You build the vehicle how you plan to use it and those plans change. I've changed my set up three times on my Jeep as I've saved money, done new things, and have decided what I want my vehicle to do for me.

    Do your thing forget what the butt hurt people say. Life is all about changes, you grow up at your parents house then you rent and apartment maybe then you buy your own house then you maybe get a bigger house to accommodate etc. . Upgrading, changing and moving forward is all life is. To stay the same is boring and lazy. Keep it up, forget the haters. Guess we as a society should’ve stuck with our first cell phones, or hell once the wheel was invented why even try to do anything else. People are dumb lol.

    Jason, I am surprised that you didn't bring up that your build reflects your environment. I saw the change in direction as being a direct result of that. As you talked about in the beginning of the video the terrain around your home is really different since you have moved to the west. Being in the mountains and having a different distance to places you want to go. I suspect you are more offroad now and tackling different types of obstacles.

    Its perfectly normal for people to start something saying they are only gonna do this or that and then fall head over heels in love with what they are doing...that usually causes them to go all out.. You are at least doing it the right way by not just throwing huge sums of money (that you don't have) at the hobby once you feel the attraction. When it comes down to it. Each vehicle is specific to that individual person and what there specific needs and wants are. The vehicle will be in a constant state of evolution and change just as the person who owns the vehicle. Change will forever be part of the experience. So if someone has an issue with you changing your vehicle they need to look onto themselves and not you changing your vehicle.

    Not often mentioned in these conversations is as consumers we have to acknowledge the need to fit in. Part of the drive to “change” or to get new gear is to feel we have what is required to fit in with a certain group. Unfortunately many of us feel we have to have a certain kit or gear before we can get out and do something, or go somewhere (insert whatever activity you choose).
    But of course the more we get into an activity or hobbie the more we learn and the more refined our desires and “direction” becomes within that pursuit, often necessitating another purchase.

  • @wibornz

    This thing we call life is an evolution. We never know what we want or need until the situation arises. It is easy to arm chair things when it is not your money being spent. I just bought a JLUR and I am outfitting it to run many of the trails that you do in your videos. Love your videos and content. With that said, I am trying to "build" it with the though process of never making my wife walk 60 miles out of the mountains. My plan is to build the JLUR so that I never need to exceed 70% of the capacity/ability of the vehicle. I live in Michigan so I have no real idea of way is truly required. I can watch your video, and others to get a good idea. I suspect that after a spend some time out west, my/our needs and wants will change. I do not think there is ever an end to the modification process as we do not know every need or want. With all that said, I think that it is so cool that you bring your kids with you. One of the best things we can do for our kids is show them that the world is bigger than their home town. I traveled a lot with my kids as they grew up. Your camping needs will change as they grow. When they are all grown, they will look back and tell you how much you enriched their lives as children. You are awesome and keep videos coming. As a Jeep kinda guy, I still love your content. And thank you for taking me with you on your adventures, while I freeze here in Michigan. You will help get me through 4 months of grey skies, no sun and crap weather.

    For me, building anything becomes a continual "weak link" problem (real or perceived). My computer, my woodshop, my truck, etc. Anything I build, I end up improving piece by piece, constantly identifying a new "weak link" and obsessing about improving *that* part... until I identify another. It's an endless cycle of tinkering and improvement (or just change).

    I know it's much easier to say than to do, but don't let what anyone says bother you. Your decisions are about you and your situation. The bigger your following becomes, the less likely it is that the things you do and say will make everyone happy. That's just how it is. Your videos are not only entertaining but also hopeful and informative. It takes an incredible amount of extra work to film your trips the way you do, to go through all the footage and decide what to share and in what order, to find a soundtrack that conveys the mood, to open yourself up by sharing a piece of your life with us. I really appreciate the things I've learned from watching your channel. It makes my overland experience better. I'm not the only one who feels that way. Keep your stick on the ice.

    I don’t know what people don’t understand? When you mod a car or truck it’s to your liking. We aren’t doing it for them. It’s our stuff.

    Also truly sorry for people that get their vehicles perfect the first time. How boring that must be. I guess you can not grow and learn. How sad!

    I think most people don't have a problem with anyone adjusting their vehicle as needs or wants change. You started getting flak when you first changed out your Eezi-Awn rack for a Frontrunner for a "cosmetic damage" and did not give much info other than that. To me it looked like Frontrunner became a sponsor and that was the reason for your change. Then along came CBI and after catching some more flak, in the second episode you finally disclosed that they became a sponsor. All people want is honesty. You should be disclosing your affiliation with brands before being called out. The most reputable reviewers on TH-cam not only disclose affiliation but disclose whether product was given to them or not. Also, Your not very knowledgable in describing the function or the parts of your vehicle. This also makes it look like your changing things because they're given to you since you can't describe the differences or the function intelligently.
