Wow, we were a bit star-struck by Idaho and Montana! How did you like that chainsaw action? Nothing like a real campfire... right?
Hear you for sure. Everyone who has used a chainsaw has strong opinions about how they should be used, fully expect a lot of different input.
As to the wildlife, we have multiple methods for the big mean ones. We will cover that as the story unfolds. (Which again, many folks have many ideas of what that looks like too!)

It funny how sometimes you run into the same people in other camp grounds, instant friends. I notice how every overlanded/RV'er are in a happy mood(great vibes). I love flathead lake in Montana. I know this is a late comment, but I would like to put in my 2cents worth about chainsaws or any loud equipment. I ran chainsaws and old fram tractors in the years before we thought of hearing protection, and now at 70 years of age I have very poor hearing👂🙉

In reference to the chainsaw...if all your cutting with it is smaller wood you could put a 28" bar on it so you don't have to bend over so far.
I own an 031 Sthil that has a 28" bar on it just for that reason.
Guys I tell ya -- you are a true inspiration. I've been busting my hump 70 hrs a week in a warehouse for the past month or so, and this... this video... as relaxing as it is... just sort of stirred me. Woke something up in me. Hard to say what it is, but it was exactly what I needed. God bless y'all.

Thank you Kevin and Sarah. As a firefighter I find myself usually trapped in my bunk waiting for the next call watching your series of videos instead of out there among you. It does my spirit good however to watch this and inspires me to make the necessary preparations for me to take my family when I do have the time and go out and find our adventure. What is ironic though is it more times than not I will say to my girlfriend on a weekend that we both find ourselves available to each other that we need to go and find some Adventure. And it's usually phrased just like that. Before you know it will find ourselves heading through Chicago into Wisconsin or into the woods of Southern Michigan. I appreciate you taking the time to go through and film all of this and I Know It Takes quite a bit of effort to do these things but for some of us it really gets you through the gray days of the winter here in Northwest Indiana.
The next time I find myself on my parents place Tennessee around the Shiloh National Battlefield I should look you up share one of those ungodly microbrews. I think I would like that and it's the least I could do to show my gratitude

I bought their hoodie after trying it on at Expo West this year. I have been very pleased with it. It’s been my go to now for hiking, traveling etc. I’m surprised how warm it has been keeping me.

Editing and production getting better and better! I fell in love with Montana when I was a kid when I went there on a trip with my grandparents. We took a roadtrip from Iowa to Montana, up into Glacier National Park and into Canada... now there are some amazing views. Looking forward in making that trip with my kids here in the nearish future.

Loving the videos, most of my adult life I was paid to be in those remote mountains at radio sites. I even got to bring my kido's at times. Waiting on grand children to live it all over again.

Another great video. That opening drone shot with no sound was very striking. I understand your desire to spend time in that area. I just traveled through the Idaho, Wyoming, Montana and Washington area this weekend. It was snow covered and gorgeous. I am definitely going back to camp sometime very soon. Just a thought that is probably not new, but a periodic review of products that didn't make the cut, after a month or two of constant use would be helpful. Love Prometheus stuff, BTW.
We've been thinking hard about this subject. It's easy to create a review that only speaks to the positive side of products, which encourages other sponsors to submit products... but that doesn't do you or me any good, right? That's why we've worked hard to be supported by our viewers, and not necessarily sponsors so that we can stay away from obligations and give it to you straight. You'll be seeing more of these (honest) reviews in the future. (I've got a few bad apples to cover as well!)
We used to live up there in NW Montana. Until the near record winter of 96-97 under comet Hale Bopp when we got 28' of snow in the valley floor (no exaggeration). It took two years to sell out but eventually we found our way back to the Texas Hill Country where the winters are blissful. Also this is the only place in the world where the campfire smells right. That's how you know where home is.

28' between Oct and April. It compacts you know. It was six feet deep all winter. Crazy.
The old timers said it used to always be like that. The other day I told you guys about the Swan Valley. Chances are you came up through there unless you arrived at Hungry Horse from the West. Hungry Horse Reservoir is on the East slope of The Swan Mtns. There are lots of places in that part of the world that you can access and be very much alone in amazingly beautiful places. The trout like spoons if you aren't fly fisherfolk.
I made a small fortune that winter shoveling roofs. Like $100 bucks as a kid.
Happy little stream...I totally had that Bob Ross reference! (I carry the Echo Cordless 58V chainsaw...the theory being that I don't have to carry additional fuels around and can just recharge as needed.)
We thought about that route as well... but my younger years and two-stroke engines were calling to me :D It's such a happy little chainsaw ;) Thanks for the support, guys!
I have the echo 58v and love it. How do you charge the battery in “the wild” or away from an AC source?
@@robertbare1007 So...truth be told, I have 4 4ah batteries and 1 2ah battery, I own all their 58V tools so just been stocking up as I buy tools. I can charge 2 ways...I have a Ryobi Propane generator that I'll use at our remote lake lot (no power). Video here: th-cam.com/video/_-DDXde9aow/w-d-xo.html My other option is to plug a charger into my AC power port in my Jeep and then charge it up when driving. (The generator is much, much quieter than the video shows...)
I always have propane on my camping trailer, and the generator is light enough and small enough that right now, I bring it along. I doubt I'd use it on a true overland trip, though, maybe in a pinch.

Now THAT was a sneeze! LOL You're in my favorite parts of the US. Full disclosure: I graduated from University of Wyoming and served four years in the USAF at Malmstrom AFB in Great Falls, MT..... Rocky Mountain wildflowers are spectacular. I must have 300 slides, yeah slides. I'm old!
You can envy me. I got to spend 9 years in this beautiful land and saw those vistas in all seasons. Yeah, I love that country and will be back come spring.

Looking forward to your travels through Canada. I assume your route is in BC. One concern we have while camping in the back woods are bears. Take it for what its worth we practice not cooking where you sleep. Attempt to cook back away some from our tent. Enjoy the trip as your viewers enjoy the ride.

If you go back through nw mt again stop by glacier np or lake McDonald to see the crazy clear water idk anything about camping there with the trailer but it’s a good place to visit
Upstate NY is beautiful..but every time i'm out west in the mountains, I get annoyed all my roots and immediate family are on the east coast. I'd uproot in a second for beauty like this every day.
If you and your family ever make it to Crater lake national park or the Northern part of the red woods (I'm about a 2 hour drive from them), you will have to let me know it be awesome to meet you and your family.
That's definitely on our list! Maybe sometime next year!
@@LifestyleOverland Crater lake would be good around May June, snow would be gone and there shouldn't be much for fire restrictions.
Carhart makes the red long johns I call them my cowboy long johns they go from your ankles to your neck one piece with flaps an buttons. Can't live without them in winter. I'm from Tennessee to I've done Construction all my live I swear by them.

I retired from the Military last year and I watched your show night after night, at first my wife was reluctant and now she's like me waiting for that new episode lolol. I'm working on getting my rig right (overlanding wise) and we start our literal full time overlanding in the spring. So a lot of ideas do come from your YT channel.

Have y'all ever had any bear encounters? Myself, my wife, and my 5yr old daughter decided to give the Enchanted Rockies Trail a try in August 2018. When we got to Colorado, we decided to stay in Mueller State Park, to get some hot showers, and refill our water supply. That night we had a bear come right through our camp, and RIGHT OUTSIDE our tent!! A little nerve racking!! 1st overlanding trip, 1st bear experience! ! Ugh
None that we could confirm... (a future video will explain). We tried to camp away from the crowds as much as possible, which put us away from bears that were accustomed to people and were more likely to be scared of human scents and activity. We even cooked bacon often (which is a huge no-no) without a single sighting. But, we've heard lots of stories like yours as well... sometimes it's luck of the draw.
@@LifestyleOverland well, I know for sure the people close by was our issue. The good thing is that the bear went on through our camp, crossed the road, and found an unattended cooler to break into. LOL
