  • "Do not steal" goes way beyond taking a Coca-Cola from the local auto shop. Watch today's message to find out how we all steal in everyday life: subspla.sh/bft...
"Do Not Steal" is part 4 of "The Other Six."

Man I hadn't thought of a lot of those things being connected to theft, but you're so right..
I still strongly reject the idea that _desire_ itself is sin. Desire doesn't make you commit a sin, and I think that was Yeshua's point with all of those things he said about what you've done in your heart. _if you haven't committed the sin in your heart,_ if you would _never_ do it, it's okay to want things. You just have to perpetually keep an eye on that because we're all sinners and none of us are completely immune to temptation. These days a bigger danger is people using desire or perceived desire or trumped-up evidence of desire to condemn people. Or people trying to eliminate all temptations to put a fence around these sins.
In fact I think the good ol' golden rule is the best way to reconcile your desires and your not putting yourself ahead of others.. If you really want what they have, then that should _reinforce_ your dedication to not taking it. Because you want it, you know full well that you wouldn't want it taken from you, if it were yours. (That doesn't work so well for the sexual sins like the last message, though, because it's really easy to say "i'll enjoy it, that person will enjoy it, so the golden rule is satisfied" when you forgot God's involved too and he wouldn't be cool with it)
