This was an interesting video going back through the history of xp; would you consider doing a history based vid concerning items/drops/crates etc in rocket league? I feel there's a lot of players (like myself) who never played with crates and keys and stuff and it would be interesting to learn about that :D
I remember the 50point thing for XP.. it caused another problem.. BALL CHASING in the lower ranks ppl would be so in their heads that ppl would just ball chase meaning if you're doing any 3v3 mode (which i usually main as a casual.. of like 7 yrs) you basically had to pick between WINNING the match and ranking up VS getting rewards for something you paid for I also miss every match giving you something even if it was something useless or doing something random in game to find out you get points for it I even remember unlocking my rocketeer tittle n was hyped bc i was first outa all my friends
The progression system was never really good, but the thing I'm upset about is that we're not getting uncommon drops after matches every now and then anymore. Now it's just blueprints which are more annoying to receive than anything else.
@@Zenikai_It's not that they cost credits as much as it is the cost to build a blueprint is usually way higher than the cost to buy it from someone online.
@@MrMeeseeksPiano had that happen in a diamond 2s tournament (I slacked on playing tournaments so my rank dropped there) and my teammate was like plat in 2s and was out of position all game, but since I had the GC decal on they shamed me for not being able to carry a practically 1v2.

Then, I checked their profile and they were ACTUALLY gold in all playlists, including tournaments. This was season 4, I still have no idea why they were on our team. We actually made it to semi finals and we were a lot nicer to him when we found out he was actually gold.
I started playing the game early July 2018, so as a new players I experienced the old level tags, and how excited I would be whenever I saw a legend or rocketeer. This is back when I cared about my points during a game as well, and I remember right after the progression update, being surprised with how few points I was getting per match. Good times, now level is entirely meaningless, I've never bought a battlepass or cared about any of that garbage either.
It’s crazy how much the game has changed since Alpha, there weren’t flip resets back then or anything. They also rejuvenated the game with the f2p update

i remember leveling up feeling so slow back in 2018-2019. I played at the start of 2018, stopped playing after rocket pass 2 released. Took a break for a few years, started playing again recently a few seasons ago and doubled my level in half the playtime I had in the game.

It's crazy because I remember this but the one my buddy and I did back in the day was I would sit on the goal line. He would push the ball into me and get closer and closer until the ball was rapidly bouncing between us. So he would get a Shot On Goal and I would get the Save but we were so close to each and the bounce was so fast it ran up the XP. Did it once or twice way back when. I worked so hard to get to lvl 75 for my rocketeer title, but when the progression update came, all my friends got it almost instantly, even though I had double the hours they had. I wish Psyonix kept the rocketeer title to the players who hit 75 before the update :/
I got the privilege of finding stoney in a 3's game, to think of the odds of that happening is absolutely beyond me, its probably a rarer experiencer then unlocking a titanium white octane! I think I lost the first game against him and then won the second game, but it would have not occurred to me that he was still playing in 2023.

But Sledge have you heard of the phenomenon of getting reset all the way back to 0 my in game career is far off from my stats on RL Tracker my goals for instance on my career page in game say I have scored 6416 goals but on the RL tracker I have scored 38,080 wich puts me in the top 0.4% of players #3,189th in the world.
I miss the old rocket pass system. Where every level you get a drop and all the rocket pass pro tiers were randomized. The system the changed to since free to play is completely terrible and there’s no decent way to earn painted items from trade ups
Unfortunately that was another change that was out of Psyonix's hands. Randomized pro tiers (that could be purchased) could be viewed as "gambling" and Epic has already paid out millions in lawsuits for the crate system.
in 2016 me and a friend became ADDICTED to rocket league just trying to get the rocketeer title, i remember being really impressed just because my opponent was a 'legend' one game
I remember how people with Rocketeer titles would get roasted like there’s no tomorrow if they had a bad game or bad teammates. It was like getting Colonel 100 in Battlefield, except players didn’t understand that it’s just a matter of time before you get there, and it doesn’t necessarily reflect your skill, not like competitive MMR/rank, and even that can be manipulated.
I recently reached level 4200. It's so lame that they don't give us more banners. It should be an easy update to give us a few more colors to that banner. :(

i'm at level 4500 ish and literally everytime I level up I get a reminder of the level-up which I'm not sure why it's even in the game, when the progression update first came out, I grinded the hell out of it for level 1900 so I can have all the banners, but then what? it's just a number that shows pretty much nothing, not even how much you played the game since leveling up it's so easy now, they need to actually do something with it or just remove it altogether
I must admit, I was the kid doing the puck xp glitch, I left my ps4 on overnight so many times just grinding away, thinking back on it now, it’s just sad but I loved it back then
Lvl 2272. Rocket Demigod sounded cool and I do still use it normally, so those final lvls in 1900s I was grinding purely to to see what title you get at 2000. Can say I was pretty tilted to find out you just get nothing, not even a new border. I would've even been fine with "Touch Grass" as a title. The more I type I realize I may still be a bit salty just thinking about it...
The thing that sucks is that rocket league doesn't have a good level up system like Fortnite. Fortnite has daily while rocket league has weekly which is dumb because people can easily complete those quests in a day but have to wait for next week for the next set of challenges
I miss the old system because A) I bought the game via my expensive Playstation+ subscription and don't want to pay even more money so someone else can "free to play" and B) what use are modifiers for a party if you can only solo queue because you have a life outside Rocket League. I also liked the common drops at the end of a match when you leveled up because even if you already had it, they used to have a way to trade those in as a group and get something higher tier. Now, most often if I do one of the stupid challenges, I get a loot box that gives me a duplicate item I can't get rid of!
@@Rocket_Sledge Wonder if that is a recent change. I got a lot of stuff and would go trade them up and half the items in my inventory wouldn't even show up to be selected. Or, maybe I'm just confused as I can't keep all the stuff straight. I never really got tournament items as I'm not good enough to actually win and since my daughters were born, have basically quit playing as it wasn't worth buying the season pass where nearly all the unlockable items seem to live now.
I know my level is around 400 because if you open the game without an internet connection, it shows in the bottom left instead of your rocket pass level.
They need to get rid of the "over 900/1000/1100 points in a single game" challenges. As someone who never plays 1v1 or 2v2 it's almost impossible to reach that score and any time you even have a chance of getting there you're obviously stomping the other team so they concede. "Holding the other team to 0" also just adds stress to every game until you're done with it. I was recently annoyed at a 7-1 win... that shouldn't be a thing.
Your level is actually still displayed where the rocket pass level is shown, just not when there's an active rocket pass. Once the pass ends, you'll see your full level again
I actually did the opposite of this video, I was around Rocketeer and didn't really want the title so I went into a private match used cheat engine and set my score to negative 999999... and then after the match I was set back to level 1 and was given the Rookie title again, so it was pretty funny how annoyed people in competitive got when a rookie was beating them, I got called a smurf every game for a while and the level never went back up until after the progression update must have taken into account my matches played or something.
i remember when i came back to the game in 2020 i was weirded out by the titles i was like where's my legend title and saw my level was 1 i thought they rested my account 2016 was so fun trying new things and just hitting the ball was super fun for everyone
I really wish they would implement some new kind of progression. After reaching my personal goals, I feel like there's nothing left to play for. I can only hop on and play a couple games before feeling like I want to log off. I used to *want* to grind, now I barely even want to play..

Iam playing this game for maybe 1 1/2 or 2 years now. I miss some new black market stuff or maybe a new tier like legend with colorful goalexplosion and so on. Maybe a chance to reduce all those old black markets which are worth 30-50 cr cause there are hundreds of thousands of it already
I can't be the only person to be just below Rocketeer before Psyonix changed the XP system to put me like double where I was and instantly give me the Rocketeer title. I was so mad that I grinded for the title just to be given it instantly.
Not sure if it was intentionally left out due to thinking it was irrelevant, or just not known or maybe even forgotten during the video creation process, but the minimum score requirement to gain XP is now 25 in a match. Unless it was mentioned and I missed it, the video is a little misleading in that it may make unaware players believe the minimum score requirement is still 50.
You are the second person to mention this, and though in my research I've seen a few comments mentioning it is 25, I will probably run a test to confirm for myself as there is no official statement I can find. If it has been changed it's a more recent one and I guess could have been included in the free to play part of the video. Though my focus on the 50 point requirement was more about 2018 than than today. Will report back if I learn anything more.
@Rocket_Sledge haha yeah, my friend and I play a lot together, and we've had those random bad matches where one of us only gets 24 points and no XP, and then 25 points in a different match and get XP
One theme I really take away from this video is how much you care about the community. You look at the people being punished or disregarded, and become a voice for them. I love Rocket League and have been playing since launch, and the community is the only thing that threatens my desire to play. Everyone deserves to have fun playing this amazing game, regardless of "skill issues." I have slowly experienced more and more toxicity as the game goes on. Then again, I rank up higher and higher the longer time goes on, so maybe there is something to be said about toxicity at higher ranks as tm8s expectations of "skill" go up, very similarly to your ideas about player titles🤷♂
I feel like they should bring this back, instead of having to use money to get a car, you could play the game and unlock cars and items to make it more enjoyable
I think some sort of challenge to unlock stuff would be cool, like win X amount of games or even something like "win 5 1v4 unfair bot matches" to get an unpainted untradable fennec or something. But I'm sure it'd affect the trading market and in game store sales so they probably won't, just an idea though
I guess I’m one of the few players that actually cares about their XP level… to an extent tho. I’m about 750 or 800 and even tho the Avatar Border rewards seem largely the same, I always use the highest XP border I own and insta-equip when I unlock a new one. I’m actually quite hyped cuz I’m nearing the gold XP Avatar Border pretty soon :D
I remember how sad I was when I realised I didn't get new borders for a while, to find out I hadn't gotten them for 200 levels already at 2100 at the time.
5 months ago I've found an XP exploit(among other impacts) that still works and can net me 5 levels per hour while AFK. I did report this but they still haven't fixed it.
Well you also have to think about the previous leveling system they had. Psyonix didn't have a clue as to the possibility that people would become extremely mechanical or amazing at this game when it released. So calling people legend or pro was just a meaningless fun addition to the game. Until the players actually started getting crazy good at the game.
I view it more as the common practice of game companies pandering to their players. Making them feel "special" or good. Not that there's anything wrong with that, it just had some unforeseen consequences, especially once being a "pro" started to mean something.
I kinda miss getting flamed for being a shit Legend/Rocketeer (cause I did the puck farm) in what would probably equate to modern day silver 2 gameplay. Getting to rising star div 5 in 2s and getting my first black market decal out of the champion series crates was peak RL, now it’s just sunk cost fallacy that keeps me going
I honestly think they have no time to give out titles for people who simply grind the game. Makes no sense to me but it is what it is. Hopefully they see this and see things differently :) I'd love a "lives in basement" title in some odd highlighted color, just as a joke. Would bring more to the game. Would give more people a reason to beat me when we play!
Level 7142 @ 13,744.8 hours since '16 checking in... Remember when we used to fly to the net after a goal to get in the replay? Good times! Nowadays, Rocket League is just Smurfs. Legit well over 50% of my matches in every mode have a Smurf(ing)/Underranked player(s), maybe (maybe) 20% in 1v1 duel. (yes there are definitely Smurfs in Ranked Duel... only God knows why lol) It's still kinda fun, b/c I know I'm improving at the mechanix of this uniquely Beautiful game... but. No. instead of calling it Competitive, they should just call it "Competitive" It's not competitive, at least not for the average adult player. It just isn't. Probs gonna start playin' it way less soon... Just kinda holding on to the good times, is why I play so much atm... I know so very many ppl who left the game b/c of smurfs... I'm probs gonna join 'em soon.
U missed out on a crazy xbox xp glitch back in 2016/17 where just by switching accounts repeatidly would duplicate your xp and game stats so u could get rocketter on a fresh account in under 1 min
I dont find that one really all that crazy as you already had to have a Rocketeer account to make it work. But yes I did see that method. Useful for making your smurf accounts already have all the items unlocked.
@@Rocket_Sledge no u didn't have to be rocketeer already u could be any level so if u werr level 2 on 2 accounts u would keep duping the amount of xp of a level 2 so would take longer but if u had a level 30 account switching just a couple times would dupe enough xp to hit rocketeer
I am currently XP Level 3069 and I haven't had a new Avatar border in years. 15,933 games, 55.4% win rate, in game time played 1,294 hrs, but steam says 3,115 hours. I know I've left the game running accidentally while I go run errands or eat dinner though.

You can briefly see your actual xp level when you log in before you’re connected to the servers.

Challenge Items can definitely be traded up though... There's a whole trade up menu for both regular and tournament items.

the points ones you need to go to 1v1s in my opinion....just stay in the goal...it's easier when they're gold too
Your level is actually still displayed where the rocket pass level is shown, just not when there's an active rocket pass. Once the pass ends, you'll see your full level again
So that would be like a 2 day window between seasons?

I actually did the opposite of this video, I was around Rocketeer and didn't really want the title so I went into a private match used cheat engine and set my score to negative 999999... and then after the match I was set back to level 1 and was given the Rookie title again, so it was pretty funny how annoyed people in competitive got when a rookie was beating them, I got called a smurf every game for a while and the level never went back up until after the progression update must have taken into account my matches played or something.
i remember when i came back to the game in 2020 i was weirded out by the titles i was like where's my legend title and saw my level was 1 i thought they rested my account 2016 was so fun trying new things and just hitting the ball was super fun for everyone
I really wish they would implement some new kind of progression. After reaching my personal goals, I feel like there's nothing left to play for. I can only hop on and play a couple games before feeling like I want to log off. I used to *want* to grind, now I barely even want to play..

Iam playing this game for maybe 1 1/2 or 2 years now. I miss some new black market stuff or maybe a new tier like legend with colorful goalexplosion and so on. Maybe a chance to reduce all those old black markets which are worth 30-50 cr cause there are hundreds of thousands of it already

I can't be the only person to be just below Rocketeer before Psyonix changed the XP system to put me like double where I was and instantly give me the Rocketeer title. I was so mad that I grinded for the title just to be given it instantly.

Not sure if it was intentionally left out due to thinking it was irrelevant, or just not known or maybe even forgotten during the video creation process, but the minimum score requirement to gain XP is now 25 in a match. Unless it was mentioned and I missed it, the video is a little misleading in that it may make unaware players believe the minimum score requirement is still 50.
You are the second person to mention this, and though in my research I've seen a few comments mentioning it is 25, I will probably run a test to confirm for myself as there is no official statement I can find. If it has been changed it's a more recent one and I guess could have been included in the free to play part of the video. Though my focus on the 50 point requirement was more about 2018 than than today. Will report back if I learn anything more.

@Rocket_Sledge haha yeah, my friend and I play a lot together, and we've had those random bad matches where one of us only gets 24 points and no XP, and then 25 points in a different match and get XP

One theme I really take away from this video is how much you care about the community. You look at the people being punished or disregarded, and become a voice for them. I love Rocket League and have been playing since launch, and the community is the only thing that threatens my desire to play. Everyone deserves to have fun playing this amazing game, regardless of "skill issues." I have slowly experienced more and more toxicity as the game goes on. Then again, I rank up higher and higher the longer time goes on, so maybe there is something to be said about toxicity at higher ranks as tm8s expectations of "skill" go up, very similarly to your ideas about player titles🤷♂

I feel like they should bring this back, instead of having to use money to get a car, you could play the game and unlock cars and items to make it more enjoyable
I think some sort of challenge to unlock stuff would be cool, like win X amount of games or even something like "win 5 1v4 unfair bot matches" to get an unpainted untradable fennec or something. But I'm sure it'd affect the trading market and in game store sales so they probably won't, just an idea though
I guess I’m one of the few players that actually cares about their XP level… to an extent tho. I’m about 750 or 800 and even tho the Avatar Border rewards seem largely the same, I always use the highest XP border I own and insta-equip when I unlock a new one. I’m actually quite hyped cuz I’m nearing the gold XP Avatar Border pretty soon :D
The system still plays a role, especially early in your RL career. Later on when you are level 5000 though it starts to be redundant.
I remember how sad I was when I realised I didn't get new borders for a while, to find out I hadn't gotten them for 200 levels already at 2100 at the time.

5 months ago I've found an XP exploit(among other impacts) that still works and can net me 5 levels per hour while AFK.
I did report this but they still haven't fixed it.

Well you also have to think about the previous leveling system they had. Psyonix didn't have a clue as to the possibility that people would become extremely mechanical or amazing at this game when it released. So calling people legend or pro was just a meaningless fun addition to the game. Until the players actually started getting crazy good at the game.
I view it more as the common practice of game companies pandering to their players. Making them feel "special" or good. Not that there's anything wrong with that, it just had some unforeseen consequences, especially once being a "pro" started to mean something.

I kinda miss getting flamed for being a shit Legend/Rocketeer (cause I did the puck farm) in what would probably equate to modern day silver 2 gameplay. Getting to rising star div 5 in 2s and getting my first black market decal out of the champion series crates was peak RL, now it’s just sunk cost fallacy that keeps me going
I honestly think they have no time to give out titles for people who simply grind the game. Makes no sense to me but it is what it is. Hopefully they see this and see things differently :) I'd love a "lives in basement" title in some odd highlighted color, just as a joke. Would bring more to the game. Would give more people a reason to beat me when we play!

Legit well over 50% of my matches in every mode have a Smurf(ing)/Underranked player(s), maybe (maybe) 20% in 1v1 duel. (yes there are definitely Smurfs in Ranked Duel... only God knows why lol)
It's still kinda fun, b/c I know I'm improving at the mechanix of this uniquely Beautiful game... but. No. instead of calling it Competitive, they should just call it "Competitive"

U missed out on a crazy xbox xp glitch back in 2016/17 where just by switching accounts repeatidly would duplicate your xp and game stats so u could get rocketter on a fresh account in under 1 min
I dont find that one really all that crazy as you already had to have a Rocketeer account to make it work. But yes I did see that method. Useful for making your smurf accounts already have all the items unlocked.
@@Rocket_Sledge no u didn't have to be rocketeer already u could be any level so if u werr level 2 on 2 accounts u would keep duping the amount of xp of a level 2 so would take longer but if u had a level 30 account switching just a couple times would dupe enough xp to hit rocketeer

I am currently XP Level 3069 and I haven't had a new Avatar border in years. 15,933 games, 55.4% win rate, in game time played 1,294 hrs, but steam says 3,115 hours. I know I've left the game running accidentally while I go run errands or eat dinner though.
In game means IN a game. Not training. So all of your training time is not counted either.
I remember using the Cheat Engine trick to give myself negative points because I didn't feel I was good enough to be Legend.
