This is the Fishbone benefit concert where Alice played an acoustic set. They cut the set early after the crowd started throwing shit at them. Layne played bongos during this set from photos I’ve seen.
This song reminds me of "Shame In You" from their self-titled. This and "Shame In You" would both fit well with their album Dirt and perfect for Unplugged.
Shame In You is probably the one track I wish they performed live that they never did. Would have loved to have seen/heard a non-acoustic Down In A Hole live. Get Born Again would have been great live also.
I think the audience forgot this was a memorial benefit show for Norwood Fisher of Fishbone… made sense to play a more somber, acoustic show. They deserved better 😪
After an OD and a NDE ....I use the lyrics to describe hell ...what it was like in the outer darkness and how, because of quantum physics, it stayed with me afterwards. This is what hell is like.....a cold darkness....where God does not exist. You cannot appreciate light until you have been in the darkness. Sure enough in Layne's last Rolling Stone interview called from hell and back ....he does mention a NDE he had into a cold, scary place. That outer darkness (tartarus) dark, cold and lonely with nothing but thoughts of anguish and terror. I believe Layne gave his life in order to be a martyr for drug abuse and as a result he has helped so many, myself included, escape that darkness to be born again. I believe he gave his life to help others. In fact It was the song "Wake Up" that reached me and inspired me to stop using and seek help. I write this today heroin free forever. Thank you and God bless.
They played this as their intro but played another killer song and my brothers were like wtf you know this song and some people around us were like what. Man I can’t wait to see Jerry Cantrell play in a few months
Horrible audience should be ashamed of themselves, is it that hard to be respectful and listen to this beautiful heartfelt song.
Oh trust me, they FEEL it. Listen to how to they cheer when he sings "this is how it feels to be free."
I would have loved it if they had performed this on MTV Unplugged.
It would’ve fit perfectly
With Rotten Apple (there is an acoustic live on TH-cam, but no MTV sadly)
I believe this was the single occasion this song has ever been performed.
Yes, and the crowd hated them on this perfomance, 'cause they expected more kinda metal songs
Should have been done on Unplugged. Definetly.
They performed in 1991 with Ann Wilson
Such a beautiful dark song
All I hear is cheering
god this is so fucking haunting, i love it
Hearing Layne sing sends a bone chill through my body. He is surreal sounding
Holy fuck, never knew this was performed live. Thanks for uploading!!!!!
+liprincessprincess X2!! Only wish that Jerry's guitar was more audible and that there was a version of 'I Stay Away' recorded live.
The lyrics in this are insane.

fucking assholes. AIC has a really diverse amount of music, yet stuck to a heavy setlist for the boneheads.
Hauntingly Beautiful Song sung by a Unique, Masterful Vocalist...
Fuck I wish they had a better version of this
We all do, Alice is so legendary

Such a special song

this song and Rotten Apple would have been perfect on Unplugged

Why is everyone screaming like that? Great song and performance.
Que mierda se debio sentir lyne cuando canta este tema tan personal y ellos solo gritan como ganado...horrinle...se merecieron mejor publico
Lo mismo pienso, el único registro q hay de este tema... Y la gente no se calla 😕
This was the beginning of the end for Layne 😭 What a mess :( so sad 💔
