I've always Loved your Fishing videos, the Ridge running video's are a close second, like the one when y'all hiked up the Ratta-Tatta-Rouie Ridge in French Polynesia. I currently support Y'all as a lowly Bilge Rat, as well as the crew on Project Atticus, when they have Live Streaming segments. I'm the old Navy Photog I started with Canon in 1966 when I was in High School and when I was in the Navy we had quite a variety of Cameras, Rolliflex, Nikon, Speed Graphic, Bell and Howell 16mm movie cameras and my Canon which I upgraded to an A1 while in Japan fast forward to now I have totally switched to Sony my latest is an A9 and A7riv 61mp. I primarily shoot stills video I have not mastered yet. You guys are masters and Canon is great gear and tough. So just keep doing what your doing its very high quality in my opinion. And I'm in love with Emily what a sweetie. I also watch sailing Uma and couple others but your #1.

You get knocked off balance and you fall overboard. It all happens in a split second. Ok what does Ashley do now? Congrats on hitting 100,00 subs! You hit the nail on the head when you said that the equipment doesn't matter. It is definitely the story that will draw people in and hold them to your content. Once you have can consistently deliver stories that bring people in then you can up your game with a better camera. It boils down to this, if your content is crap then all that a high end camera is going to do for you is polish that turd. In the end, it's still a turd. Some video tips Ben, for those times when you are shooting in bright sun light you can get a neutral density filter for your camera(s). This will drop the light level by 2 to 32 (or more) stops. There are even some that are like a circular polarize where you can turn the filter to change stop value. Also, have you seen the lenses for cell phones by a company called Moment? If you want to go for that cinematic look they offer an anamorphic lens that will give you a 1.33:1 aspect ratio. You will need to do some work in your NLE to stretch the video into the 1.33 aspect ratio. As an example you can use the lens and capture your video at 1920x1080 and then run it through your editor and stretch it out to the 1.33 aspect ratio and endup with a frame size of 2550x1080. These lenses are not very rugged and probably won't last long in your situation. But if you can try one, I'd recommend it.
Congrats on the 100k, although you're over 115k now! If you get a chance you should go to the Japanese Province of Okinawa. I recently got back from the islands and they were absolutely incredible. The most beautiful place I've ever seen! Happy sailing!

I'm really not sure why; maybe it's been a change in my perception, or maybe it's the current content...whatever it is, I think you both do awesome work and I really enjoy and look forward to your videos. Congrats on hitting 100,00 subs! You hit the nail on the head when you said that the equipment doesn't matter. It is definitely the story that will draw people in and hold them to your content. Once you have can consistently deliver stories that bring people in then you can up your game with a better camera.
It boils down to this, if your content is crap then all that a high end camera is going to do for you is polish that turd. In the end, it's still a turd.
Some video tips Ben, for those times when you are shooting in bright sun light you can get a neutral density filter for your camera(s). This will drop the light level by 2 to 32 (or more) stops. There are even some that are like a circular polarize where you can turn the filter to change stop value.
Also, have you seen the lenses for cell phones by a company called Moment? If you want to go for that cinematic look they offer an anamorphic lens that will give you a 1.33:1 aspect ratio. You will need to do some work in your NLE to stretch the video into the 1.33 aspect ratio. As an example you can use the lens and capture your video at 1920x1080 and then run it through your editor and stretch it out to the 1.33 aspect ratio and endup with a frame size of 2550x1080. These lenses are not very rugged and probably won't last long in your situation. But if you can try one, I'd recommend it.

Great video, thanks for sharing your tips! In all honesty, Sailing Nahoa was not one of my favorite channels 8-10 months ago when I was watching early videos. I'm really not sure why; maybe it's been a change in my perception, or maybe it's the current content...whatever it is, I think you both do awesome work and I really enjoy and look forward to your videos. You clearly are working very hard to get this level of video out; you also have very interesting content, and it's not all about the party.
