    Dodge truck had a rough idle and shifting was off. Cleaned out the IAC valve and all good now.

    The IAC valve will be damaged if you turn the valve head. The valve works by moving the needle in and out, not spinning.

    That's how you destroy the iac valve, the plastic bits on threaded rod are stops so rod doesn't spin in place.
    Time for a new valve. 🤔

    That white substance was >>White Lithium Grease. It is a bit heavier/thicker than 3inOne oil. 3inOne oil just might be vacuumed out of the IAC due to the engine air intake suction. A slightly heavier grease may have been better. Such as Synthetic if not the OEM.

    Well-intentioned Brandon. However it breaks that plastic shoulder inside, that it locks into. You're lucky It didn't break your plastic shoulder the pintle shaft goes into, and the idle air control valve is likely to vibrate and move the pintle. The shoulder made of plastic is not going to hold it from moving if there's any vibration which there is probably and it's not going to stay put for long. this might work in a bad situation where you have to have it right now, but it's not going to be a lasting solution.

    • @MRsickcat84
      @MRsickcat84 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good point!
      Another way to remove the spindle is by remove it from TB but do not remove the cable. Turn on car key, the IAC will automatically move spinde forward and eject it. Don't forget to wrap the IAC in some container or the spring and shaft will gone!

    Im surprised his IAC valve worked after this cleaning. I was always told never try to fix or clean sensors. Just buy new OEM ones. They have gone up a bit in price but its better to pay for new parts than risk doing thousands of dollars worth of damage to your truck. Just my two cents

    • @michaelneal5428
      @michaelneal5428 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The video was poor advice, though I gave him the benefit of the kind intentions. Mine broke as well the plastic shoulder that it goes into that locks it in place is broken. Well in a pinch I think his advice is good but the force needed to detach the pintle and rod breaks the shoulder that it's inserted into so the life won't be very long probably for this, because it's not locked in place and vibration could move that pintle and the plastic will probably deteriorate more. Thus I had to buy another AIC valve, or I will have to take it out again and replace it anyway. This videos author is blessed because his did not break it is likely to break the author needs to know that other people's very same idle air control valves.plastic shoulder part it is inserted into are breaking like yours and mine. Though it goes into the metal threaded something beyond the plastic shoulder part.

    That "little nipple here" is called a "pintle". This IAC valve isn't, even the slightest bit, in need of cleaning, BTW. I'm reminded of a couple phrases while watchin this......"looking for a solution to a problem that doesn't exist" and "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".
    Nice video demonstrating the breakdown of an IAC valve, though. Not sure why your "problem" went away after this, but I doubt this is what "fixed" it. IAC valve has nothing to do with shifting and rough idle can be caused by many things.....IAC more a factor in idle speed than roughness.

    • @jafinch78
      @jafinch78 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've found the wire harness connectors connection for some reason can be an issue on the TPS and my thought is just cleaning the tip of the IAC maybe. I'm no expert and have only removed the TPS and rotate full motion to verify the DMM resistance readings range for the pinouts and the IAC to clean with just some carb cleaner dampened shop towels. Also, cleaning with the dampened shop towel the inside of the valve and as far as I could get in of the inside of the body. Seems to do the job when mine starts running funky. Wondering if just the TPS, for some reason needs a full range of motion, is all at times.
