Love your reviews . I started drinking whiskey about about a week ago and seen lots of your videos already. Thanks to you I have a better idea of what to buy the next time I hit the wine and liquor store
Very nice! A bit ago went to a Whistle Pig 4-course dinner with my daughter. Each course included a different Whistle Pig dram plus a unique mixed drink. This was not simple affair, main course was a huge pork chop. It was hosted by the local Whistle Pig Rep. And, they sent us home with a small bottle of Whistle Pig plus a bottle of Whistle Pig Vermont Maple Syrup. Thanks for the good wishes for holidays and back at ya! Intend to put my WD Glencairn to good use over the next few days. Cheers!
The Whiskey Dic Just tried it now. Caramel and vanilla right away on the nose and whst I think others would call juicy fruit. Real fruity right up front, there's spice but it's not overpowering. Then that juicy fruit on the finish. Real oily, lingers. Glad I bought it. Thanks for the recommendation!
I'm so happy you enjoyed my recommendation. Its rare that people tell me they tried something I recommended and didn't like it but I'm still nervous every time :)
Its sourced whiskey from a place in Canada. Lots of newer places do it. Whistle Pig has a newer whiskey called Farmstock that's made at their distillery... everything else is sourced
I edited my original. I read it and thought it kinda jerky the way I worded it. Words.... ugh. After I thought about it. I watched a couple more videos that say they stated on the back that it's done that way with a percentage of their actual home grown. Quick response man... Thanks again for all you do.
Last week I picked up Sugarlands Roaming mans whisky. I feel it is to rare to give it a go. Could you pick up a bottle and give it a go? (They are pretty hard to get)
Hello my name is Carlos and I've been trying many different kinds of whiskey. I've tried from Japanese to Irish and yet nothing really smooth as a good tequila. I know you can't compare the two however my question is, is there a whiskey That goes down smooth without the alcohol burn? If anyone has had such a whiskey please let me know price is not a issue
At my local Total Wine it's $80, but I think I'll budget for it in one of my upcoming paychecks lol. I loved Bulliet Rye, so now I'm curious what this full 100% rye is like!
$45? Wow. The regular 10 year is $75 here in East TN. I received a bottle of single barrel, store pick 10 year as a gift. It is fantastic!! 113 proof. Good review
caught this review late...bought whistle pig after I first viewed this vid before making this comment. this is $75 here in California and for me the rye is a bit too imposing, for lack of a better word. it is good but boy it smacks you. again sir very informative review, thank you.
Great review but that's the single barrel which has a higher proof than the regular 10 year (very similar labels). The single barrel is really nice and richer in color and taste than the regular 10 year.
I love my Lot 40 here in Ontario, and would love to get a hold of some of this to try. Unfortunately, It's almost $150 here. Maybe I'll have to hold out until I'm down in the states. Great review!
I paid 65 at my local specs. I'm just getting into whiskey and thought I was being a novice with the whole spicy rye taist (still VERY enjoyable just spicy) but I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one
Great review! Have to keep an eye out for this one. I have spotted the farm stock, 15 year and boss hog iv.Pricey juice, wasn’t sure if it was worth the money. Sounds like the 10 year is!
The Whiskey Dictionary I really want to learn, but I don’t feel like I have an intelligent enough question to ask cause I’m new. I guess the best question would be.... where can I go to gain some knowledge so I can ask more specific and intelligent questions. 😎. What is your website AND what Whiskey group do you recommend to join?
I would suggest watching my series of videos called "getting to know your whiskey". My website is www.thewhiskeydictionary.com As for groups. Your guess is as good as mine, I don't do Facebook really
Could be a bad rumor but I read this whiskey is sourced from Canada. Anyone? Also, is there a good, all American rye that isn't so hot? Those triple digits kind of put me off. The hottest I've put in my cabinet is knob creek bourbon 100.
Search WP rye whiskey piglets, for $25 you get to sample 3-50 mls of the 10, 12 and 15. Its a great way to try WP without breaking the bank, that will happen after you find out how good it is lol!
That's incorrect Bill, the WP10 is all Alberta Distillery as well as the Boss Hog. The others with the exception of Farm Stock is MGP. The Farm Stock is their own Rye, a horrible 2 year old overpriced drech. I find it hard to believe that store pick was $45, more like $70. They have only been a licensed Distillery since 2015 I believe, maybe 2014.
I would not try and get information from their website, they have never been transparent regarding the source of the Whisky. In their defense, they do re-barrel the ADL Rye for futher ageing and then bottle it, unlike Masterson's 10 year Rye which is 100% aged in Alberta and bottled in California.(Excellent stuff as well and cheaper) Only the WP10 and Boss Hog are ADL, the 12 and 15 are MGP. Since the distillery was built in 2014 the first WP10 from the farm will be in 2024. Hope this helps
Wait, $45 damn! Its $75ish in Maryland but man is it good. I'd say it's worth that. This was my first intro into ryes as a $7 sampler shot and it was on my mind ever since.
The Whiskey Dic. No worries, I was a home brewer for many years so when I got into whiskey about a year ago I've been nerding out on the way distillers make the beer they distill. The science is the same as beer but the technique is night and day. Really enjoyed watching whiskey.com distillery tours to see what they do. Congratulations on how well your channel has turned out for you and Merry Christmas
tallesta, not sure what WP does with their new Farm Stock rye distillate but the sourced Rye from Alberta Distillers is famous for their "homegrown" enzymes.
$45?!?!?! I cant find this less than $90. Funny story. My girlfriend and I visited Vermont and went to whistlepig farms to visit the distillery and do a tasting. we were too early and nobody was actually working there at the time. We got sent to a couple different local places where they did tastings.
The Whiskey Dic I like your channel very much. The only improvement/change what you could try is the speed of talking. Take more breath and fill the sentences with more dynamic. Speak more like a human not a machine! That would be very great an successful 👍🏼 I Like your videos very much and...... admiring your knowledge! Cheers Dic💥boom
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary Whistlepig 10, 100% Rye is from Alberta, the Old World 12 is MGP, the 15 is Alberta, Boss Hogs probably Alberta or blend of Alberta and MGP. They still source it andhave a boatload of aging ADL and MGP, Their first 10 year juice would be 2024 or 2025.
First, as usual, liked the review. I did want to point out that the elephant crossing the border thing was intended to be visually powerful. Powerful enough to make a person not question the validity of his point. If you look at reliable statistics, though, most illegal immigrants aren't coming over land and the number of illegal immigrants has been declining for years. Pew has quite a bit of statistics on the subject, if you're interested. Merry Christmas, by the way.
Why is Whistle Pig so expensive ? $400 &. $500 . Too rich for me. I don’t know witch one I saw but the expensive ones are the only ones I see here . I can’t spend $500 on Bottle of whiskey.
The Whiskey Dic $400 & $500 is getting into high end Scotch prices. It is a cool sounding name and a cool bottle. I didn’t see a $45 -$50 version, I’ve only seen the $400 of $500 version on the in-cap of the store isle. Is that a 15 year old version for that rich man’s price. I usually only buy stuff in the $25-$35 range. Maybe $50 for a special occasion.
I’ve never tried Rye Whiskey, is it spicy hot like 100 proof Apple Pie Moonshine? I like Rock Town 100 proof Apple Pie Moonshine, my favorite of every Apple Pie I’ve tried. I know most reviewers scoff or never try Moonshine or flavored moonshine like Apple Pie. Apple Pie has a lot of flavor for being un aged . Of course it would probably be an amazing flavored corn whiskey if it was aged for 5 years.
Tried this for the first time last night and it was pure Crap! for a "10 year" it was light as iced tea, and had a strong turpentine aroma. Just the absolute worst and not worth the money!
The whiskey has actually changed a little bit since I did this review. It was never amazing, but I don't think it's as bad as you state. Either way, defending whistlepig isn't a thing I'm eager to do :)
Dune reference!! Love it. You don't hear many of those nowadays especially in a Whisky review. Very cool.
I’m intrigued, but hesitate to spend $65-$70 when I can get my current favorite, Pikesville Rye, for $40. How would you compare the two?
I prefer pikesville
Love your reviews . I started drinking whiskey about about a week ago and seen lots of your videos already. Thanks to you I have a better idea of what to buy the next time I hit the wine and liquor store
+Trudragon88 Awesome! So what's the verdict. What's your next choice
The Whiskey Dic you made that Japanese Whiskey sound really really good . I think I might try that one . 👍🏼
+Trudragon88 great choice!
I remember Raj on The Apprentice. Surprised but oddly not surprised that he’s into this.

Because of this review I picked up 2 WhistlePig Single Barrel store picks for $70 each. They had the normal WP10 for the same rice.
Have you tried them?

This is my next buy, right now it is roughly $75 here in Texas.
Look for the Total Wine or the Specs Barrel picks of this. Pretty widely available and pretty tasty.

Picked up a local store pick of this bottled at 116 13 year.. fantastic! Another wonderful review
Been debating on whether to buy Whistle Pig for a while, this has convinced me to take the plunge.
Happy Christmas matey.

Al Capone’s favorite drink was Templeton Rye whiskey.
Keep up the great work friend, I’m a young drinker and love to keep learning! Happy holidays!

You said he started distilling his whiskey in 2007 so how's it possible to have a 15 year whiskey?

I bought this a long time ago. Price has definitely increased
This is $89 dollars here in Maine (single barrel) I bought the "non cask" 10 year old for $79 today.

I have found that it seems any liquor made specifically for New Hampshire are the failed batches, so consider any of the negatives in this light.
That's interesting...

Go with Woodford Reserve Rye. So good
Its sourced from Canada. Whistlepig is upfront with that aspect. Its finished in Vermont and bottled there, but nothing is MADE in Vermont
Gotta love the whistle pig , it's good rye and love the santa hat mister. Good review Bill,Cheers and Merry Christmas

nice review - thanks!
I hear this is Vince Gilligan's favorite whiskey. I gotta give it a try one of these days.
Loved Breaking Bad!

Genuine. I Appreciate your sharing!
I saw on the whistlepig Website that they had some kind of Canadian background. Do you know what that is or am I completely wrong?
+trucks Their initial release was a blend of Canadian whisky but they have since moved away from thsy
The Whiskey Dic oh nice too know and if you can get your hands on some Alberta Premium I strongly recommend trying it. Cheers and Merry Christmas

First of all I really like your channel, secondly could you do a bushmill black bush review
+Reiley Renova I get a lot of requests for Bushmills. I think I'm gonna have to get to that sooner than later. Thanks!
Great video, I've sent it to my frat brother in Vermont.
+Ralph Stewart Hell yea!
He restores Bugatti's in Fairlee, Vt.
In Maryland they go for like $90.
Just came home with a bottle, $85 in Oregon
Great reference. (Sip) Long live the fighters!
Suggestion❗ Prices ❓ cost❓ Where you can get it. Midwest, East coast
West coast ❗
+Paul Betka I got mine in New Hampshire. When googling I see the price a bit under 50 dollars
near $200 in Australia
Ouch. Australia has some decent whisky, I'd stick with that!

It may very well be more expensive now. They've done much better for themselves now
Going to try and track this down-Good review 🥃
Shouldn't be too hard depending on where you live. Its readily available in most areas
Yeah it’s not cheap in Australia
100% Rye? Is he using artificial enzymes instead of malted barley to convert the starch in the grain to sugar during the mashing process?

How can he offer a 15 year old if he started in 2010.?
+Alexander Fenes I wondered the same thing. I believe it's a blend of some older stuff
The Rye is sourced, the 15 year is sourced from MGP. WP did not start distilling their own until 2014/2015. Farm Stock.

Ridiculously expensive. Get into being a connoisseur of this stuff only if you have deep pockets.
