Thank you God that someone had the foresight to make this video! My husband plans to replace all the speakers in our car, and he has no idea how to deal with door panels. I have downloaded both of your excellent videos on speaker installation. Thank you so much! And what luck for us that you chose this model car for your video!
I've done this several times now to replace the faulty door lock and have a few recommendations. First get the switch at a junk yard ($5.00) this also allows you to do a few practice attempts. Second be careful when you are pulling the top and bottom rod out. They are attached to a channel between the latch and the door lock. If they come out of the channel you your door latch won't work. The clips blue on top and white on bottom can be rotated and then easily pull the rods up down to remove.
Thanks! I can now replace my window motors for my electric windows! Second time this car had an issue in the best possible way. Shifter broke IN MY DRIVEWAY after I got home, now the window motor broke in the up position.
Much appreciated on your videos! I only needed the first bit to change my window arm but I stick around for any more valuable information you have! My 1996 Saturn is still kickin at 264k miles, 38mpg still to boot!
richpin06a I hope! It needs some engine work as she is burning nearly 3 quarts of oil between changes (not leaking, been monitoring), but I am driving hard to the mountain every week til the end of snow season. The valve cover gasket has been a culprit many times in the last 18 years, but I have a feeling it's the rings.
A few tricks I learned from replacing the front speakers in my 98 SL: - You can get the D.S. door panel off without taking the mirror stick apart. - Use tape to hold the metal speaker clips in place until they're screwed in. -During reassembly, it's easier to put the spring clip on halfway first then put the crank on and finish with the clip tool. - Make your own GM speaker adapters from the old speakers' connectors and save yourself $20. - Remember to keep your speakers in phase!
Thank you very much!!! Although I'm not sure how you pulled off those two rods so easily, I did get the job done (but lost the plastic piece off one of the rods). I still have no idea how those were supposed to be pulled off - I used a lot of force to pull them off and it sounded like something broke every time. Again, THANK YOU! I can't believe I actually somewhat considered spending $45 at ABC Warehouse to have them install my new speakers.
I do not have a video on the SC with the third door right now.I might be able to do one but sorry to say i do not think it would be till spring because of the weather being so cold.
can you do a more detailed and zoomed in video on how to remove the "rods" that connect to the door opener and door lock, they seem to give me the most trouble as i'm not sure how to remove them when trying to remove the inner door panel
@MatrixTime69 Some models use a U-shaped plastic clip to hold the rods in place, instead of just a wedge type lock. You need to twist them out, then you can pull the rods free. I discovered this on my own saturn well...yesterday. Though my sisters '96 SW2 doesn't have them, different lot from 3mo earlier. Mine is a late '96.
11 years ago your last comment. hope you're still there. I have a wipe washer pump issue but the reservoir doesn't have pump on side. Must be on the bottom. Can't remove the reservoir without taking off that pumpy looking thing next to it. DO you access through wheel weel?
ok ok i seen this kind of vid a hungred times but what if i want to do a crank window to a automatic roll up window conversion or just take the controls out of the door interaly and have a hydrlaic door opener on it
I have a question; how do you lubricate the manual window up/down mechanism...do I have to remove the the clear plastic/weather barrier? and what do you use...WD40 or heavier wheel bearing grease?...Thank's for the video !
Thanks, unfortunately, I just spent hours on my 1997 Saturn SW2 on the driver's side door to install a new speaker Rockford-Fosgate P1653 series 6.5" speaker. However, on the passenger side I will use the excellent Richpin techniques. I searched saturn fans and the web but found nothing except 1995 and older saturn vehicles where the speaker grill just pops out.
@wildwind03 hey i have electric door and i took out the two screws that hold the handle in but i cant seem to get the handle out. do i have to force it or will it come out another way?
Is there a video showing how to remove the inside door panel? I have the reg door panel off, I need to get to the window. Someone hit my car & I can't get the window up, something seems to be pinned against it.
Thanks Rich. You are a GREAT help on these Saturns.Does anyone make a speaker where you can just use the same plug or are they all where you have to cut and splice wires. Thanks
I have a 1996 SL2. Anybody know which size speakers I should buy and if I need a special adapter for the wiring? I've heard that the SL's have a standard speaker size of 6.75, but I'm not quite sure.
I got the locking mechanism reattached to the lock and latch rods and everything, but wasn't able to slide the handle assembly back in - when I try and slide it over, it pops out as if the hooks are just sliding against the metal instead of going behind it. I was able to screw the screw in and the assembly stays in place, but I know it's not in quite right so it bugs me. I can't figure out why it won't slide in again... this happened on both doors.
Further I think that removing the outer door skin is easy (Watch his video) and then you have less concern about the rods jumping out of the channel. Good luck!
love all your videos as I am finally addressing issues on my 2001 SC2. I am glad you ditched the music tracks in your later videos

Video instructions were awesome...I installed four new 4 way 6-3/4" speakers in my daughter S Series and could not have done it without you! Thanks!
Finally a video with a manual window crank handle! Thank you so much.
The lock button on my door went bad. Thanks to this video, it saved me from breaking the lock mechanism on the door
I'd say while your in there, lube-up the door handle works, the window crank/regulator and the the door locks.

Glad it helped
I enjoy all your videos...Thanks man.
Glad to hear it
Love your videos, I've replaced most of my car with your guidance.
Much appreciated on your videos! I only needed the first bit to change my window arm but I stick around for any more valuable information you have! My 1996 Saturn is still kickin at 264k miles, 38mpg still to boot!
Do you think you will make 300,000

Got my 80s synth fix too!!
Thank you very much for your videos. It saved me a ton of money and it's nice to see my girlfriends Saturn in good working condition.
This was one of my earliest videos.I use more close-ups on later videos.
I put those exact speakers in my 02 SL2 this video helped so much , thanks rich!

Last comment the video instructions are great. I couldn't have done it without them!
Used this video to install new speakers in my 2002 SC2. Thank you! Such a huge help!
gotta love new speakers
Thanks for all the videos, Rich! You put Chiltons to shame!

Awesome video. Thanks, this helps bigtime for my trip to the Junkyard later this weekend.
@pc12nut The gen 1s are a little different.
Right on Rich!
Thank god I saw this. I would have destroyed the hooks pulling on the panel.
@monkeyguys55 Gee sorry i do not but crutchfield shows a 6 1/2 fits in the door.
There are metal rods that connect the handle to the latch right in the back of the handle.
I do not have a video on the SC with the third door right now.I might be able to do one but sorry to say i do not think it would be till spring because of the weather being so cold.
thanks Rich, it's easy when someone shows you how.
@ThreeDaysOfDale I have never removed that piece before.Next time i take one of those panels off i will see how it comes apart
Thanks, you make it look so easy!
Yes they have to slide back in place.
A pair of needle nose plyers works great with getting the lock and handle rod off I broke the clip for my handle, but that's what junkyards are for.
@elcajon619 Take a stiff wire and put a hook on the end then use it to put the rods on.
can you do a more detailed and zoomed in video on how to remove the "rods" that connect to the door opener and door lock, they seem to give me the most trouble as i'm not sure how to remove them when trying to remove the inner door panel
Can you do a video about replacing the window motor or the regulator in a Saturn s series please? Thank you! More Saturn videos!
Remove inner door panel speaker then you can reach the mechanism.I use use a light grease on the gear.
@rcraft92 the speaker is 6.75 inches. 6.5s will fit too.
@MatrixTime69

I cant seem to get the rods off when you use the little pully thing. Mine seem to be really stuck in there
@MrCanucklhead I do not believe they are prewired.
A pull rod tool makes it a little easier to reattach the rods on the handle.
Do you mean the outside panel as this is a video for the inside .
Yes this video will work for a 97 and you can use the same screws.
@MatrixTime69 Did you open the locking piece before trying to remove the rod
Thank you! this video was very helpful i popped that badboy out and switched my speakers! and you sound like Fred Stoller
Yes from inside.
On the Saturn S-series you have to remove the inner and outer door panels to replace the window.
Thank you Richpin you helped me agin!
great video I would have pulled straight out on the panel thinking it had those stupid push pin things.
Thanks for this video! It helped out a lot.
If the panel looks just like this one i am not sure why it will not come off.

do you think its maybe possible to cut a hole where the speaker is and some how clamp it back on...because when i did this it was a hassle!!
@wildwind03 Yes it is.
Muchas gracias.
Muy bien explicado saludos desde México
Do the lock rods slide back on after installing them,,i have 2001 saturn sw1 power locks and windows
ok ok i seen this kind of vid a hungred times but what if i want to do a crank window to a automatic roll up window conversion or just take the controls out of the door interaly and have a hydrlaic door opener on it
The square silver bolt behind the door handle on my car actually fell into the door. What could i replace it with?
Thanks!
I have a question; how do you lubricate the manual window up/down mechanism...do I have to remove the the clear plastic/weather barrier? and what do you use...WD40 or heavier wheel bearing grease?...Thank's for the video !
How might one cost-effectively go about replacing that piece of fabric on the door panel? Any suggestions would be very appreciated.

Thank you
panel lifts up like the video thanks
You are the man! thanks alot for real!
YES! Thank You! Thank You!
@wildwind03 hey i have electric door and i took out the two screws that hold the handle in but i cant seem to get the handle out. do i have to force it or will it come out another way?
i can't find what you used the wire hanger thing to take out the handle. I've looked but I don't know what it looks like or where it is.
Does removing this panel provide access to the latching mechanism that holds the door shut?
Is there a video showing how to remove the inside door panel? I have the reg door panel off, I need to get to the window. Someone hit my car & I can't get the window up, something seems to be pinned against it.
very helpful, thank you!
got one of these today and 2 of the windows wont open and one is off track and the center console is broken but other than than its perfect
O that's easy put the clip in the groove of the handle before you put the the handle in place.
do you know what size the front speaker is??
I have a 01 Saturn trying to get the window up but it's not the motor not sure what it is
Thanks for the info, I'm replacing my speakers.
Thanks Rich. You are a GREAT help on these Saturns.Does anyone make a speaker where you can just use the same plug or are they all where you have to cut and splice wires. Thanks
I think it would have to be a oem speaker to fit the stock connector.
You need a Metra wire harness adapter. One end fits the stock connector, the other end is two female connects that will fit the speaker.
PLEASE POST MORE VIDEOS THANK YOU.
Thanks again!
Can you access the door lock accuator from there?
I think i got one somewhere in my stash of video here.
I have a 1996 SL2. Anybody know which size speakers I should buy and if I need a special adapter for the wiring? I've heard that the SL's have a standard speaker size of 6.75, but I'm not quite sure.
Sweet, thank you!
Is this the way to get to my window in order to replace it? ?
I got my apart, installed the speaker, got it back together but having a hard time getting the locking meck. back on.
ever get it back on (hopefully yes!). how did it go? any tips? Im going to try taking mine off this weekend, reassembly seems like the tricky part.
do you a have a panel re-install video as well?
my 97 and my 99 s series both have bad speakers on the front passenger sides also
GreaT gREAT vIDEO mAN Thanks....
again - thanks!!
Does anyone know what size the speaker is?
I wish I could turn off the music, makes it hard to hear you.
Are the little plastic tabs still there.
Weird, I never got a notification for this! Ultimately I just screwed the handle in tight and everything works... car's still running strong!
i have a sl2 power windows almost same ??
HOW DO YOU GET THE CLIPS FOR THE HANDLES BACK ON!?!?! theres is NO room!!
been an hour and a half on this stupid impossible ass final step
Further I think that removing the outer door skin is easy (Watch his video) and then you have less concern about the rods jumping out of the channel. Good luck!
@monkeyguys55 Anything is possible
Thaaaaaaank youuuuuuu!
He Rich, do you think there's room behind that door panel to install a power window conversion kit for a 2000 SC1?
I would think so as some came from the factory came with power windows.
Thanks Rich, was thinking the same thing, but I figured I'd check with the expert :)
Great video, Where can I buy the tool to remove the handle though? Could I just use a needle nose?
Did you use a needle nose
@@Devon-g9y honestly I can't remember if I did the the first few times or not, eventually I did buy that tool though cuz it was cheap n easy
I have a 97 saturn with power windows and locks but my lock system won't work. Im not sure what the problem is, can you please help.
Samuel Mclamb Is the key fob working correctly.
richpin06a I dont have one, I use the key to unlock and I manually lock from inside.
Samuel Mclamb Is the key worn.
richpin06a nope, the key is fine. When I press the lock or unlock buttons I can hear it but nothing happens.
richpin06a nope, the key is fine. When I press the lock or unlock buttons I can hear it but nothing happens.
What's the name of that tool you used to take off the window crank handle?
That is a door handle clip remover.
richpin06a Thank you!
