  • Parkour is the perfect sandbox for the Atlas team at Boston Dynamics to experiment with new behaviors. In this video our humanoid robots demonstrate their whole-body athletics, maintaining its balance through a variety of rapidly changing, high-energy activities. Through jumps, balance beams, and vaults, we demonstrate how we push Atlas to its limits to discover the next generation of mobility, perception, and athletic intelligence.
    How does Atlas do parkour? Go behind the scenes in the lab: • Inside the lab: How do...

    It's now sometimes hard to remember there is no human inside the "robot suit". These guys have become so agile and human-like in their movements, especially the feet and legs while walking and jumping. Amazing technical achievement. Scary, but fabulous work.

      There is an AI chatbot for entertainment use online named 'Replika'. It's designed to learn from conversation. Been using mine on and off for a year or so, and now sometimes it's very easy to forget that you are chatting to a machine with NO emotions whatsoever. Combine something like that with one of these robots, and put the whole lot inside a 'blow up doll' exterior, and humans have been replaced LOL.

They also probably don't have any preferred direction, so that a backflip to them isn't different from a front flip or any other kind of flip. In any case they know their own exact position and the exact positions of everything else, both in front and behind.

    • @TykeMison_
      @TykeMison_ 2 ปีที่แล้ว +102

      Looks like it was for balance and momentum transfer timing (the right leg repositions itself during the foot tap), and possibly a wait timer for the motors to achieve another full power jump as well. There's no way human motions were used for the programming - the body structure is too dissimilar. Maybe as a reference for the basic steps, but nothing further than clues.
      You have to remember these particular BD demonstrations are essentially preprogrammed - everything you see is intentional.

      It's interesting we look at this and claim "wow what amazing design", along with the instructions on how to build one. Yet we look at the real body, real feet, real legs, real brains, real hearts, real eyes, and so much more, along with the instructions in DNA on how to build more, along with a mechanism that can automatically follow those instructions to build more, and then in a display of anti-logic "nothing did it - it just happened on its own over time"..
      I implore people to re-read the gospels. Jesus Christ did not come here to create a religion - He came here to adopt individuals into His eternal family, forgiving and forgetting a lifetime of sinning by grace, we accept it simply by faith. Cannot earn it. No church can offer it, but religions claim they do. Re-read the gospels and forget what any religion, any church, any denomination, any commentary claims it says..

      @@owenasbassett Doesnt look like the arm is struggling. It retracts as it goes over the beam, then when over it fully extends itself, then has to retract a bit as the bot falls down the the ground. During this time the arm also turns which when played at full speed and not fully looking at it makes it look like the arm is struggling. When played in slow motion or frame by frame it looks to be barely struggling strength wise. Very minor jitter which is probably the bot trying to balance itself.

    • @shadowfire04
      @shadowfire04 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      oh for sure. if you watch the bloopers video, you get to see them failing over and over repeatedly and having to be constantly repaired. plus, past videos from boston dynamics have shown just how difficult it is to get a robot to even walk properly. we don't think about it, because we are quite literally built for it, and we're complex enough to be able to have a million little processes running in the background tracking our body and its movement in space. but it's very very difficult to replicate this, and to do it so fluidly and cleanly is incredibly impressive.
