The calves look well enough. I don't finish any cattle but sell as big store cattle. I've sold some friesian/holstein's at good money. I use fertility ➕️ AI and get a mix of breeds, but by an absolute mile, charolais are some of the best cattle I sell. They just stand out from the rest and always make more when I sell.
I agree totally charlaois are the best I bought a few out of a purebred holstein heard and they were some animal's they looked and weighed like suckler animal's!
I would clip the young cattles backs aswel Phil. Makes a big difference. I would even clip the calves you buy in the spring aswel. We do all calves as young as a few days old.
Usual crack, Phil sitting on his ass in the tractor while Liv does the manual work piking the silage! You couldn't make it up! He's some man for all the soft jobs!
Great job, i buy runners ,white heads male females, keep to 650 kg store ,do as well as any of others , they get the big double mineral bolas at trn out the best results ever seen .
Always give calfs here 2 bags milk makes awful difference I no it's another cost but I think it's worth 50 kilos at housing time there still fine bunch of calfs
In UK the middle men are paying high prices for stores some buy in spring for grazing and sell now no winter work labour tax may disrupt small farms completely
Hi Phil maybe i miss a video or it's still too early but dose there seem to be much difference in the calves that were fed ad lib and the bucket reared one's tks
Calves look well, we all have the hard luck cases we have six little victims getting intensive care in a small pen just to get them up to scratch (4kg /day ) but the rest are just getting 2 kg / day and good silage, we give them 2 kg / day from turn out in the spring until the following turnout , ours are mostly February and march born and all fr. Weighed in at 215 kg last Tuesday we were very happy ( that included the six little victims who averaged 157 kg ( which for us was not bad we often didn’t do much better for the whole group) the 2 kg of meal works out at c. 750 kg per calf which looks like a lot but we are hoping to leave them out in the spring at close to 300kg which is a gain of .75 kg a day again achievable with luck. Basically our goal is to be letting out the cattle for the second season on grass standing us a bit less than €500 a head all in and if we can do that we will be in a position to make a few quid. We find that if you can get them out of the house at 300kg you can get them to the target weight in January/ February handy enough. All bullocks in our system by the way.
Very happy anniversary to both of you❤. Who deserves the campaign 🏅 medal. My wife found a bit of our wedding cake in the bottom of a freezer, it was still delicious after 8 years.😊😅😊
Well done. I watch all the videos but theres no point in commenting as I wouldnt know, I dont own a farm, way too much work and no break from it. Enjoy the holiday.
We are not into this Farming I’ve but still like to comment.Just think Farmer Phil and liv and family are wonderful and they work together it’s hard work 😓.Like your comment.🧑🏻🌾🧑🏻🌾🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👨
Calves look like the best you’v had yet 👏👏 least lawn calves too. You might want to cover that gate up where the wind blows in, keep it calm at calf level but good breeze up over their back 👍 could you get away with feeding them more often with less feed if it’s tight with the wagon? Daily feeds will be best for intakes and growth too.
@@jamesbartley3106 exporters have lots gone out of the country , less cows in the country compared to this time last year .....more men will go back to rearing a few , bucket fed weanlings are making very strong money this last few weeks ..... now I am talking about the strong calf next spring ......70 kgs.........there will be a very strong trade for them
Great video Phil, the calves look well and the shed will do them good, it looks airey so will be a good job, I might look into the copper injecion as a few of our cattle just hang on to their brown coat for a lot longer than they should, have a good holiday, good luck!

Bit late watching but calves are looking very good Phil / Liv, good to see you both happier with results this year than the disappointing time you both had last year 👍👍 Oh and happy anniversary to you both 🥂
Few of those worst ones are fair shook. I would say don't buy a calf from their bloodline anymore. We kept on more calves than usual this year and last year from dairy side, 2 that were lost last year their mothers calf this year were minded more than the rest but still behind where they should be and a pain to get that far. It's an eye opener as to how tough or weak your animals really are and the likes of ye depend on these animals
@markocarroll9424 could be to be fair. I had another look on the video he's the worst looking. the rest are poor but will manage away not sure about him
Your very knowledgeable phill, the calves look good. Doing a grand job

U won't beat a good charolais bullock.out weighs the limousine and always get the few pound more.
It costs the same to feed a chaoirlaois as a Friesan and you will get twice as much for him.

Yes but u might pay 4× the price for them as calves @gerryoconnor8751
And pay 6 times as much to buy him as a weanling as buy a angus suck calf at 180e@@gerryoconnor8751
Well done, so nice to see families working together
I hope you appreciate the contribution of your lovely wife. You are fortunate she decided to settle on you 😊

How many calves of that size does the bracken trailor carry?

Best of luck with everything ahead on the farm fair play to you & Liv ye make a great team 👍👍👍
Calves looking well Phil
ye do a very very good job, and it ain;t easy. it is some work load. well done.
your putting in to much silage keep it back from barriers and they won't pull it in on slats
with a tech rail only its almost impossible to feed bale silage without them pulling it in
Jersey Cross (JEX)

Good video, as usual ... Where do those animals sleep? Aren't the slats a bit hard, would you not get straw covered "beds" in there ?

Great to see some of the livestock . Calves look very good ...maybe a little lean ..??
What's the scour stuff u mentioned, couldn't quite make it out
Precision microbes
Its like a sweet molasses like tonic that gets mixed in with the milk. Its very good stuff. Calves seem to thrive on it.
Great video Phil. Are you going to do a video showing the difference of the calves that were on ad-lib milk vs the calve that weren’t
That was a great job with your cattle and not bad looking fresion bull and great looking sliage 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
