This is one of the greatest finals matches of all-time. Hands down best payback/revenge match ever. Bubba showed Cael Sanderson how wrong he was. I still tell people about this match. Revenge is a dish best served cold. Bubba served this up on ice in Antarctica with penguins carrying him like Boreas, the Greek god of the cold north wind and the bringer of winter. Yes, this happens a lot. Parents will purposely hold a kid back so they graduate high school at 19, then redshirt at 20, and come into their freshman year turning 21. It was always though that the physical maturity of that one year would give them advantages throughout their careers. If you look back a lot of wrestlers of that era were older, like the Palmer brothers, for example.
Who cares , it's college and athletes can get paid now. It's no longer about student athletes. It's just semi pro athletics happening in college sports here on out
13 yrs later but gotta say > Taylor was PHENOMENAL then and his shot was EXCELLENT > the insane level balance strength quickness Bubba employed to counter it was elite level athleticism AND he had the CONFIDENCE to take huge risk of going over top of taylors head to attempt cradle instead of playing it safe to crossface & try to sprawl out of Taylors deep shot. Essentiall Bubba pulling himself in close to go for cradle which easily couldve backfired into Taylor getti g takedown.
Between the two Taylor is the better wrestler. On that day Jenkins caught Taylor. It was not luck. He caught him fair and square. You have to give credit where credit is due. I am sure that loss humbled Taylor and fueled him to what he eventually became. Both excellent wrestlers.

I remember looking at him after I won I’m thinking man I wish I would’ve wrestled him but at the same time I figured I would’ve been beat badly though. I kind of won lol

Please….Taylor was stuck for about 8 seconds - the pin zone is not just the two shoulder blades - old coach here - I thought Jenkins deserved the victory and kudos for him for going for it reversing direction with the cradle - I was there - watched it myself - Sanderson is a great coach, but even great coaches fail on some - they (Sanderson and his staff) failed Jenkins (I do not think it as the other way around) and it came back to bite them.

The "spotlight wrestler". 24/7 Attitude matters in a D1 room. DT, on the other hand, was a blue chip recruit that bought into Cael 100% and originally committed to Iowa State to wrestle for him. As a redshirt Taylor had his way w Bubba 75% of the time, was more committed (in staff's opinion), better in the classroom... all that nuance mattered to Cael. BJ won that match(ironically with a DT go-to technique), but PSU still won the team title, 40+ points ahead of ASU.... my point was, you said they failed w Bubba. I disagree, DT was beating him in the room in the short term, was a better teammate (at least in staff's opinion), better in the classroom, more committed (all subjective of course), but BJ had his moment, and it was epic. We just disagree on the "failed Jenkins" part of it. They also thought long term. They're still mat side w DT at W&O games while Bubba is kinda fighting mma??
