      SGRS is a alternative binder for chems. Its a formula/project productionproces by many Japanese star makers.

    interesting to see the process. I just ordered it online.

    Soaked sticky rice is grinded first then it is squeezed in cloth to remove excess water then it is steamed and flattened using roller and then it is parched at suitable tempeature and milled in fine powder.
    You are having difficulty smashing steamed rice to fine dough.

      Yeah, was rock solid, but if i had brain time to do it again i'd probably fix few gaps in the process :)

    Next time go to a local asian store and try to get sticky rice it contains more starches then some basic rice you can get from the grocery store

    Is store-bought rice starch the same as the sgrs that's used in fireworks? Good video, it was very informative. Thanks.

    Try to make crackling Stars, The mixture with bismuth trioxid on pyrosource works great

      It sounds ridiculous but a 50/50 mix of CuO & Mg/Al (+ binder, like 3% dextrin) makes a killer crackle star.

    • @Pyrokartoffel
      @Pyrokartoffel 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      66/30/4 Cuo/Mgal/dextrin works better

    • @Pyrokartoffel

      Why ridiculous?

    • @cheesebone82
      @cheesebone82 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ridiculous because it's simple and doesn't require any lead or bismuth, lol. I'll try your mix too though, I plan to roll some this weekend.

      But try to add 1% dichromate for better igniting and the original video and composition is here: th-cam.com/video/v7HbFc_nlz0/w-d-xo.html

    I used to experiement with various pyro ingredients back in the '80s. Going from memory, the problem with dextrin as a binder is that in humid summer environments it's hygroscoping enough to make some pyro formulas get kind of wet. For example with making quickmatch or stars with 4 or 5% dextrin, that was enough to cause water absorption problems. The problem was minimized by keeping the dextrin content low like at 2% of the solids. I preferred wheat paste powder that was commercially available at least at that time, and didn't give problems with moisture absorption like dextrin did. I suspect, though never experimented with it, that soluble glutinous rice would absorb less moisture than dextrin as well.

      Paradoxically SGRS to be activated needs almost twice the amount of water that dextrin does, but after drying it's keeping the water out. It's not hygroscopic. And 3% SGRS is stronger than 5% dextrin, so you can add 2% more of a hotter organic fuel like red gum.
