    Got a MiG Y with BYD. Charge rate is 170kW at the beginning. Plugging in at 10%, 20%,30% or even 56%, it starts with 170kW ! Seems like you dont have to go low SoC to get full speed. It throttles after some time to 92kW, but plugging in at high SoC getting full speed is very good.

      Did another SuC session today. Plugged in at 72%. Again >170kW. At 85% 112kW, then it reduced linear to 51kW at 94%. The BYD always takes 170kW when plugged in at any SoC ! Battery was 32°C at start, not pre heated.

      @@me1td0wn366 yeah, plug in at any SOC without preheating (in summer) and recharge with high power. Did that today again, better than the LR NCM batteries. 95kW at 79% today, is great. Will do 1200km tomorrow to France and back. The Y SR BYD ist so far the best Tesla I had and there is no penalty on long trips compared to a LR.

    I still think the LFP is a very good pack. It is smaller, but you can daily use 100% if you want to...the NCA/NMC packs usually get charged to 90% daily. So in real life use, the size difference is way less than 20kWh. More like 10kWh or 50-65 km of range.
    Only on a very long trip will you spend a little more time at the chargers with the smaller pack.
    If rumours are true...Tesla could start using an LFP based pack with some manganese in it. If that is true, it only needs to be around 70kWh 65 usable) to compete with a 82kWh pack.
    It's hard to stay on top of all the battery magic Tesla is putting in their cars. It used to be NCA only with some form factor differences, some pack design changes and some fairy dust. Nowadays, you have packs with Panasonic cells (in different form factors), LG cells, BYD cells, CATL cells, Tesla cells....and there's probably some Samsung in there as well.
    Structural packs, non structural packs, and all kinds of different chemistries and production methods. It must be difficult for Tesla to keep in control of all those different platforms, keeping the user experience roughly the same.

    It all depends on your driving needs. My RWD MY with LFP is more than enough for me as I rarely go long distance and when I do, it is for pleasure with the family so 60-70km more range or 5mins less charging time does not make a difference. I would each time choose to save EUR 10k and get the RWD

    • @michaelpetrisor71
      @michaelpetrisor71 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      i got a RWD, my brother got a dual motor Y and man the difference is TINY. Side by side there's nearly no charging speed increase, we tested them in identical situations and he is charging under 5% faster than me and his range is not 110km more but in reality more like 50km. BUT he uses 20% more electricity in any situation. The major difference is power, the dual motor is insanely powerful.

  • @MrKlawUK
    @MrKlawUK ปีที่แล้ว +2

    guessing the main difference is that early speed is the bigger battery allowing 1c or similar to be naturally higher. LR battery is about 25% bigger so if you shift the LR graph along to start at 25% its pretty similar to the RWD.

  • @oroozen
    @oroozen ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Charging starts at 9:09 (looking at the 2023 RWD clock) at roughly the same levels.
    At 10:00, after 51 minutes, the RWD reaches 100% at 57.3 kWh. The LR started 2,1 kWh higher than the RWD, so let's see... at 9:40 it reached that 59.4 kWh. That's 20 minutes faster than the RWD to gain the same range! This may matter to people.
    It's statistics like these that I can't see in the "Kw over SoC" graphics. Do you know if there are any "Range (or kWh) gained over time" graphs?

    • @oroozen
      @oroozen ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@maurieezzz You are missing my point. I'm not bashing Bjorn's work here. I'm merely pointing out that I'm missing some usefull information from the "charge curve" graphs I always see. It's great to compare technical merits, but the end user may draw wrong conlusions. I even mentioned that I would like "Range over Time", which addresses your remark that the LR is indeed around 5% more thirsty than the RWD. To counter that, I also added the 2,1 kWh at the "slow" side of the curve. Had they started out equally empty, the 2,1 kWh difference would be "missing" on the fast side.
      In the end the LR gains 100% of the max capacity of the RWD in 30-ish minutes instead of 50-ish minutes. This may matter to some. Or am I still wrong?

    • @oroozen
      @oroozen ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@maurieezzz Yes! ;-)
      Great communication skills. And you seem to agree too?

    • @oroozen
      @oroozen ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@maurieezzz I know about 'riding the curve'. I've been following Bjørn for years and we travelled across his beautiful country two times in our Classic Ioniq 28 kWh. One time even all the way to Nordkapp and back. Now I bought a Model Y Long Range and of course I'm seeking confirmation I bought the right one. ;-)
      Of course on an RWD you would not want to charge to 100%, like you wouldn't do on any other EV. Unless you're taking a long break for lunch or so. So I can do the same exercise for a quick fill up to 80%, which is reached in the video at 3:10, or 09:38 in real time. So it took the RWD 29 minutes to reach 80% from 10% or 5.8 kWh. In that timespan it gained 40.4 kWh.
      If the LR needs 5% more for the same range, it will need to add 42,4 kWh. It started at 7.8 so where did it reach 50.2 kWh? That's at 2:27 in the video or 09:30 in real time. So in 21 minutes the LR charged the same amount of energy as the RWD in 29 minutes. Or should I say: in the same 29 minutes it charged 9.1 kWh more.
      Do we really need that? Coming from 28 kWh I'd say: NO. The RWD is plenty. It's fast enought. There's plenty of range and charging is only a whee bit slower. But is the LR more fun? Yes! I like the power, the AWD and the bigger battery, so I'm happy! ;-)

      Daily charging any battery to 100% is not ideal.
      The reason why you need to charge the LFP battery to 100% about once per week is for the BMS.
      If you do that on a daily basis, you are likely not getting the lifespan advantage over NMC (that is charged to 90%).
      It is a trade off.

    • @Likr666
      @Likr666 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Always depends on the price. In Germany in Q4/2022 the MY LR costs 3K Euro more than the MY SR. More Power, fast charging, more range, 4WD,... In january price for MY SR decreased about 9K euro and LR 2K so the difference is 10K. To me it's not worth the difference. Others may think different.
      In daily usage you can charge the LFP in the SR to 100%. If you charge the NMC in the LR up to 80% in daily usage, the range is almost the same and charging on AC is the same speed. Due to less consumption of the SR a slight pro for the SR.

    • @bosston8888
      @bosston8888 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @The IPC-TWIzZT Exactly. Any lithium battery degrades much faster when charged to 100%. LFP can withstand more cycles, but still it's not healthy to charge to 100%. Google how many ppl lost 10% of LFP battery just after 1y because of charging to 100% daily.

    • @danpadure
      @danpadure ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Likr666 actually if you drive them the same way, LR will likely consume the same kwh. Because when you drive at reasonable acceleration the LR uses only the rear motor, just like SR. Only when you demand more power the front induction motor kicks in
