I call bullshit on prisoners NOT doing these exercises. I worked at a prison, and let me tell you MANY of the prisoners took calisthenics extremely seriously. Obviously, I never saw inmates following convict conditioning (it was before the book was published) BUT many put a huge emphasis calisthenics and bodyweight workouts. And beyond that, this is seriously a great a book whether or not he spent anytime in a correctional facility.
The 'Nilla Gorilla And remember, he makes it very clear that this was mainly the old school way. He talks about a 71 year old he learned from. The real question is who can do the one arm handstand push up?
You're right man, who gives a shit who wrote it. It works! I was 50lbs overweight and could only dream of doing 1 pullup. Now I'm 179lbs and working on my first muscle up thanks to this book.
Get Charles Bronson's book solitary fitness and you'll realise that old school calisthenics is alive and well in prisons across the world just like it says in convict conditioning.
Here's the disclaimer directly from the book: "This book is intended for entertainment purposes only. This book is not biography. The names, histories and circumstances of the individuals featured in this book have accordingly been changed either partially or completely. Despite this, the author maintains that all the exercise principles within this volume - techniques, methods, and ideology - are valid. Use them, and become the best." Great marketing strategy. The info is legit. Let it be.
***** It's called protecting himself in case some idiot get hurts themselves and wants to sue is what I think. This is a standard legal disclaimer. I don't think there is a law against writing a false autobiography. If I write a book how I have super powers and used to live on Mars and it is found out I'm lying, so what? It isn't like I get arrested. But if you have a book about excercise and someone get hurts, then they may sue you. So I don;t think this disclaimer tells us if his autobiography is true or not.
Good video Zach. I've been working this conditioning for about a year now and I see a big difference in my strength. Like you stated it doesn't matter who wrote it especially when the information is legit. I'm 57 years old and most people think I'm about 40. This book has excellent valid information that, like you said, anyone can use. I subscribed to your page so keep putting out the info that can help people become better physically and ultimately psychologically and spiritually.
i got some experience with the book industry and i had a lot of fun reading the Forword to convict conditioning last night, the way the guy self-promotes his publishing house and all the mistique he strives to build around paul wade... i can see right throught that shit. the thing is there's absolutely NOTHING wrong with that. specially not in America, where you have to self promote and maket stuff like there's no tomorrow to even find a space. just started with the book & appreciate the insight
in the case of this here lady it's actually because of a shitload of hours reading shit. all kinds of shit. because that's my fucking job. because ladies fucking work. shithead.
Exactly. As Einstein (supposedly) said (extremely paraphrased) - The value of what was said is NOT based on WHO said it, but on it's usefulness. I also agree that whenever Pavel speaks, I listen, and for ONE reason only. I have learned more "useful" technique from Pavel than from anyone else, hands-down, That said, useful information can come from anyone. There are too many in this world who make every situation into an either/or choice, just like political parties do. One side doesn't have to be completely right, or completely wrong. When you choose sides before evaluating the content, you've already lost. You glean what is useful for YOU, and you benefit from it. You can always course correct if you so choose. Everything on this planet is made-up, so you choose what you like and what works for you, and you never argue with a fool. Mark Huntington Beach, Ca.
I am reading Convict Conditioning and even though I borrowed it via a interlibrary service, I. am considering purchasing a copy in fure. I requested Convict Conditioning 2, and should what is written attract me, I won't hesitate purchasing a copy of the book. Your video is encouraging, thank you.
The disclaimer in the book about it being for entertainment purpose only, is about protecting yourself from people suing you if they get injured from the exercises, its a get out clause. I have to do it on something im involved with...
Great review bros but most people in the west dont know the greatest grappler of all time was the great gama of india. Legend has it he went 5000 and 0 losses. He wrestled until his 50's and and 90 percent of the exercises he used was hindu push ups and hindu squats. He also used some isometric exercises once in a while but that was about it
Love the collection of literature man! An excellent review on the Convict Conditioning book as well. I have a pdf version but would certainly be purchasing a hard copy soon.
The disclaimer at the beginning of the book is to protect him if someone gets hurt doing the exercises and wants to sue, nothing to do with the autobiography part.
I gained 15 pound of lean muscle mass (per caliper readings) over the past several months so far using this book without touching a single weight, you will notice the gains more as the exercises become more advanced.
In the book he said he got all the best info from people everywhere in prison, a navy seal, gymnasts, doctors etc. So not everybody will do it, but he found those workouts to be the most effective. I think what is more important, is if there is a practical reason. And it seems these workouts are made for fighting and survival. Not so much for show, but for keeping your body fit so you don't die or become weak in your later years.
I STILL use these methods, and now I am 47. I often have FULL training days of ALL Calisthenics once a week! And, my bodyweight only course continues to be our most popular at BodyweightBodybuilding.com
who gives a shit if the guy's fake? there's some good shit in there and it leads to decent gains, in strength and appearance. it could be about a fuckin space dragon who went to prison on planet x, as long as it shows me step by step progression and how to increase strength and all that, I don't care.
Thanks for this video, Zach. You put things straight. I love the book, no matter who wrote it. After my weightlifting injury, CC is the way I have become stronger than ever. I love calisthenics and this is something I'll be doing for life.
Am in Step one of the leg raise series, step 2 of the pushups, pullups & squats. His meaning by "meant for entertainment purposes only" only stands for you getting entertained by looking at a transformation of your body, strength & confidence levels everyday, every week, every month & that was in just the first steps of the four exercises he recommends. Looking so forward for the rest of the steps, & I don't care where the info came from. But it's good you also recommend CC.
hands down the best fitness book i am reading (about 25 pages to go) and i can say after i am done reading this book with over a year of research on myself other people stories, fitness and health i would be able to take my body to levels higher than ever before. If you are into creating a better version of yourself i highly recommend this book...that's the TRUTH.
Raphael E this book is very good if you know how to apply it to your life. i was able to get a taste of it over the summer before school started and i can say if you are willing to put in the time you can become the strongest version of yourself. i was able to increase my core strength for stuff like leg raises, and also i was able to increase my shoulder strength with stuff like wall handstands (in my opinion the handstand movement is going to be the hardest to master). one thing i learned from this book is that you need to have time, patience and consistency but other than that it is a good book to learn about the knowledge of old school bodyweight training and how to apply that knowledge to your life. if you want i can send you a free pdf copy...after all i got mines for free.
That would be greatly appreciated if you can send me the copy of the pdf :) I've trying to change my gym routine to calisthenic exercises but havent find any good sources except youtube videos can you send it to Rafael2004@hotmail.com?
I agree with you man, who cares if the author name is real, as long as the regiment works and produces real noticeable results that's all that matters.
When I was reading this book something just felt off about the prison aspect but like people have been saying who cares? You don't watch American history x and when your done throw it out cus it isn't a real story. This book speaks to me not on a prison level but in the fact that the info really makes sense to me! I'm trying this for a year to prove it one way or another but I'm 90% sure it's gonna work

Thanks for making this video, it was a big decision to buy this book. And man, I'm glad I did. It is seriously 300 pages of pure entertainment and workouts. I honestly have not found any problems with this book. If you were skeptical about it, take it from me. This book is the real deal.
I served 13 years 8 months in Risdon prison (Tasmania,Australia) and I can tell you once they took our free weights away we did whatever the fuck we could from garbage bags full of wet towels with a few broom handles as a barbell to squats with mates on our shoulders I wish I had this book then coz it would have made my growth as a trainer move so much smoother and longer last results to boot
inspiring video, I started flipping through the book and using it. very logical, allows you to go at your own pace and start at whatever level you're at. I'm sticking with this one. and I could give two hoots if the whole convict setting is fake or not, the author is just trying to give his program some context, making for an enjoyable read. I'm going to get my dad and brother to follow the program as well.
I don't care if coach 'Paul Wade' is real of not. What I would like to do is to thank the person who wrote it. The name doesn't matter. The book has a lot to do with patience. Twenty push ups is easy. Twenty push ups done at a two second pace (2 sec down - 2 sec up) is hard. I like the progressions, and it's really hard not to race ahead of yourself.
Keep it less than 5 minutes. He says this because the "body will become cold" if you rest more than 5 min between sets. However, he also talks about cases where even doing 10 reps of 1 set is too hard, and what to do then.
The forward by the publisher has the same literary texture and style as the book itself. Seems like the publisher is the real wade. Content is legit though. When you shop for fruit you pick what looks the best. So far, best I've found.
Great video! Question: I heard that a lot of prisoners workout twice a day morning and then again at night. Are they just splitting upper and lower body workouts or are they working there whole body twice a day? Also how do they do the nutrition part of it? Prison food is crap? Thx man!
No dude i am from Belgrade in Serbia! Just liked this book a lot! Trial and eror is my way of learning , and i made a lot of erors in my past wourkouts! I am not blind follower of this book , but i use some of its benefits!
@jdcujo I agree they did a lot of bodyweight movements, but they were supplemental. Not the entire focus of strongman training. Powerlifting is pretty specific. It would be very rare even at a prison meet to place 3rd. He said he never practiced weightlifting and placed. I don't know of anyone who has done that. Your body can only adapt to what it trains for. Although I think the stories are fake, it's a decent book. I like his focus on training movement.
Book is pretty good helped me build strength to do one arm push ups. I just uploaded a video on how to build up strength to do them using a few of the exersises from the book, check it out if you want to learn how to do them!
@TylerDurden87 I agree about pullup step 2.. I've just completed the beginner step 2 of 10 reps but I can't see myself pulling off sets of 20 by next week. Still love the book though.
convict condition is not the only way to be powerful and strong! lifting weights and eat protein are also importent. Paul Wade is maybe smart, but not extra strong!
I disagree. The disclaimer and Dragondoor lead people to believe the book is truthful, but the names and places are changed to protect the writer. The book is good, but not amazing. The book shouldn't cost $40. Some progressions are nonsense. He's claims to have done 12 OAPU's freestanding. Also claims to have placed 3rd in a powerlifting meet without actually practicing the lifts. That's a load of crap! It's a good book without the fake prison stories.
Question is, would the prisoners have gotten better results if they had spent the same amount of time and effort training with all the equipment that trainees on the outside have access to?
+DavePazz he means bigger and stronger as in more muscular & he's correct. Bro yes you will get a stronger more muscular build if you do the rest. At a cost, but you will if you go about it safely
My guess is that prisoners define "better" as stronger and more intimidating looking. "Stronger" as in better able to fuck someone up. "More intimidating" as in bigger and muscular. Would you be more likely to achieve this by adding external resistance or using only your own body? Zach said the prisoners did pushups and squats with another guy on their backs.
For some actual training footage of prisons, see /watch?v=d_2EMM_aE1E Yes, some wights, but also a LOT of makeshift lifting & bodyweight / calisthenics.
and by incorporating convict conditioning into your weight training regimen, you build atleticity, speed, power and a high strength to bodyweight ratio, which ensures you look jacked and ripped as fuck, without having to include low intensity long duration cardio, which makes you lose muscles and fatigues your cns,and its not just about convictconditioning, whenever you are working towards or regularly doing advanced calisthenics feats, you are ensuring that you will look jacked.
I DONT GIVE A S... IF HE IS A REAL PERSON OR MADE UP, I DONT CARE. I KNOW ONLY THAT I WEIGHT 220 LBS AND AM 193 CM TALL PERSON DOING PLANCHE FOR 6 SECONDS AFTER WEEK OF FALLOWING THE ONLY 2 OF 6 PRINCIPLES IN THE BOOK!!!!!
@@cheney9614 well , real as in it really happened that way , probably not , from my experiences I haven't seen anyone do a true one arm handstand push up, as for strengthening the body those progressions in the book are not bad , but not the golden seal of progressions, overall it doesn't really matter if its real or not , it is a good introductory calisthenic program , to be taken with several bags of salt
This is BS. The only way to get bigger with calesthetics is to do every set to failure. work fast and hard. And training the same body parts every day is not overtraining, this is continuosly stretching the fascia by pumping the muscle with blood daily and is coincidentally the way you develope size with push ups...etc.... And Ill grant you that none of these self proclaimed badasses can get half way through any of my workouts!
I call bullshit on prisoners NOT doing these exercises. I worked at a prison, and let me tell you MANY of the prisoners took calisthenics extremely seriously. the progression schemes laid out in this book are very realistic.
Its not a scheme if you can watch the videos for free on youtube
Hugh Jass best vid on youtube is of dominik sky beginner to advanced pressin g and pullling tutorials, awesome, check that out.
Hugh Jass scheme is used like "building scheme" in this context. that being said this book and plan rock.

what is this other program he is talking about at about 02:40? I understand "Scared straight". Isnt that a movie instead of a fitness program
I don't think Pavel wrote this they'd be crazy to not put his name on it if he did. He was hot af when cc came out
Disclaimers are written by lawyers. That is all.
Would you guys recommend Convict Conditioning or Enter the Kettlebell?
What's the title of that "cable" book that you show at the end?
is their any other books that you recommend aside from convict conditioning , your suggestions would be appreciated?
I downloaded it, it's pretty good, but not worth the price. Just download if for free so you'll get the best of both worlds.

Also claims to have placed 3rd in a powerlifting meet without actually practicing the lifts. That's a load of crap! It's a good book without the fake prison stories.

Like pushup position but with your legs in the air parallel with surface!
Kendrick Lamar - Mortal Man
Question is, would the prisoners have gotten better results if they had spent the same amount of time and effort training with all the equipment that trainees on the outside have access to?
+DavePazz he means bigger and stronger as in more muscular & he's correct.
Bro yes you will get a stronger more muscular build if you do the rest. At a cost, but you will if you go about it safely
My guess is that prisoners define "better" as stronger and more intimidating looking. "Stronger" as in better able to fuck someone up. "More intimidating" as in bigger and muscular. Would you be more likely to achieve this by adding external resistance or using only your own body? Zach said the prisoners did pushups and squats with another guy on their backs.
+DavePazz eloquently spoken.. Well said & thank you so much for the clarification bro.
I use it too.
Where's the prison links?
muscle mass beyond a certain point does not increase strength that is a fallacy spread by diet companies and such to make money off people
For some actual training footage of prisons, see /watch?v=d_2EMM_aE1E
Yes, some wights, but also a LOT of makeshift lifting & bodyweight / calisthenics.
guess why he doesn't dare to show his body... easy to criticise
Really really ? have you read the book????
Doing Convict Conditioning can you achieve Mass?
Short answer,yes!
and by incorporating convict conditioning into your weight training regimen, you build atleticity, speed, power and a high strength to bodyweight ratio, which ensures you look jacked and ripped as fuck, without having to include low intensity long duration cardio, which makes you lose muscles and fatigues your cns,and its not just about convictconditioning, whenever you are working towards or regularly doing advanced calisthenics feats, you are ensuring that you will look jacked.
what's planche?
Ohhhh, so you're the dude performing all the exercises hahahaha
@the3xr No, you don't!
did john ducane send you here??
Yes we don't care
I DONT GIVE A S... IF HE IS A REAL PERSON OR MADE UP, I DONT CARE. I KNOW ONLY THAT I WEIGHT 220 LBS AND AM 193 CM TALL PERSON DOING PLANCHE FOR 6 SECONDS AFTER WEEK OF FALLOWING THE ONLY 2 OF 6 PRINCIPLES IN THE BOOK!!!!!
if you guys like i posted "Convict Conditioning : Beyond Leg Raises" please tell me what you think on my page , god bless the convicts
Convict conditioning is real?
@@cheney9614 well , real as in it really happened that way , probably not , from my experiences I haven't seen anyone do a true one arm handstand push up, as for strengthening the body those progressions in the book are not bad , but not the golden seal of progressions, overall it doesn't really matter if its real or not , it is a good introductory calisthenic program , to be taken with several bags of salt
sweeet
starting to look a l ittle chubby around the face there Zach!
He is a fat fuck
"wouldn't go as far to call the brother fat, but the nigga sure has a weight problem"
***** thank you jules!!
lol trump books
?
Mature Muscle same way I doubt you could do the same on a bar than an experienced calisthenics trainee can.
Ben Hermans , you wont bet anything on that. I challenge anybody any time any place. so go lay your head down, fkn poohbutt!
Rip
Why am I bigger than you?
Never touched a weight in my life
Mature Muscle What's a good way to train with calisthenics?
