@@cheangizzz it's what I find interesting too, the differences in the way Aegon and Aemond talk about Alicent. Aemond has given up on Alicent. His mother is the only thing he truly loves in his life and we know that Aemond didn't kill luke on purpose. And he can't share things with her so he goes to another woman and pays her. On the contrary Aegon still respects her, craves for her attention, love, approval and even opinions. He asked her what he should be doing and she basically told him he sucks and he should do nothing. Even when Alicent is someone who is the least nicest of people to him.
@fayedunaway8 I can imagine their childhood that Aegon despite being the eldest son, was neglected emotionally but Aemond was his mother favorite because he was dutiful, calm and obedient. He lost his eye so Aemond needed extra caring and Alicent attention was toward him. Even in adulthood, the same dynamic exists. Alicent is cold anddistant from Aegon even though he begs for emotional support. Meanwhile Aemond fires Alicent from the small council and yet Alicent is soft with him.
People misread Larys entirely. The guy is no Littlefinger. His motive to manipulate comes from overreacting to a feeling of powerlessness his whole life. I think this is what he gets out of being a dungeon torturer as well. He also has no hope of ever getting higher than Hand of the King.
That’s Littlefinger’s motive too. He became a manipulator after almost getting killed by Ned’s older brother and realizing that he’s more suited to using his head to fight.
This is literally also the case with Littlefinger and Varys. Littlefinger was poor compared to other nobles and Varys was a destitute child who was castrated
Larys owns the biggest castle in the seven kingdoms. But that's just a title, we've seen Harrenhal it is not even close to Winterfell nor Storm's End, even Corlys as a minor lord has a more imposing throne in Driftmart. So i can see him being dissatisfied of his inheritance
I love how the greens regrets putting Aagon on the throne but as soon as they put his more competent brother Aamond. They lost of all control and want Aagon back, lol They just wanted a puppet to control and they can’t control either.
Ewan Mitchell on the house of the dragon podcast said the reason for dismissing Alicent from the council is because he is emotional around his mother. He doesn't want to appear weak in front of anyone. Even when she grabs his face you can see a glisten in his eye. Alicent is Aemond's one weakness and he truly loves her.
@@btstrasharmyexo-lbaekiesha2776 it's the official house of the dragon podcast. Almost all actors on the show have given their interview on that podcast. It's on TH-cam
I respect Ewan but (sometimes) the things he says in interviews confuse me. He said Aemond is loyal to Aegon and also implied that he didn't burn Aegon on purpose which is very questionable after seeing ep4. I can't take him seriously lol 😭 He loves Aemond so much, maybe that's the reason why he sometimes justifies Aemond's actions.
Alicent completely forgot, she is not royalty by birth but by marriage. When her husband passed so did her power. She has no right to rule on her own or even through her sons since they’re grown men. Her duty as “regent” or counsel ended the moment her sons became adults- both her sons knew that , Aegon kept her around in the hopes of pleasing her. Aemond gave up pleasing anyone but himself a long time ago
To be fair, king mothers, even coming from relatively modest birth, keeping a position of high esteem and political influence has happened plenty of times in history. It was not totally unreasonable for her to hope to wield some influence. That is, if she had ever cared to develop a good relationship with any of her family members.
@@dmoney8602are you really watching a TH-cam clip of a show and then saying "no one cares, it's a show" at a comment discussing the events/characters of said show?? Are you stupid or something?
Alicent will outlive all of her children and all of her grandchildren but one, Jahaera. After this War, she will spend the rest of her Life alone, just as she deserves.
All of Alicent's positioning and political machinations have been to try and gather some semblance of power for herself, and Aemond just tears it all down in a single conversation.
"Have the indignities of your childhood not been sufficiently avenged?" Which one, when his older brother and cousins bullied and demeaned him when they were children? When his cousins ganged up on him and took his eye from him for the crime of claiming Vhagar? When his father did not care even in the slightest for his wellbeing, and would have had him tortured for saying something everyone knew was true? When his brother took him to a brothel against his will to, 'make him a man,' as he would say? When Lucerys couldn't even bother to apologize to him for taking his lie, instead laughing at remembering when he could bully him? Or how about when you blamed and held him in contempt for killing Lucerys even when it was an accident? The only experiences Aemond has ever had with his family have been abuse and neglect, Helaena probably being the only one who was truly nice to him without trying to mold him into something he wasn't. Every time he needed he needed love and support, they never gave it, and they wiped their hands of responsibility for his suffering. Aemond could have been an amazing Targaryen prince and/or ruler, beloved and praised for generations. He could have forgiven, he could have let go of his anger, he could have been content. All he ever needed to hear from them was: "I'm sorry for what I did to you, you didn't deserve that." "Don't worry, I've got your back, we'll get through this together." "I love you. I need you." If Aemond cannot have their love, then power will have to suffice.
But Aegon didn't "bullied" him. Only that time with the pig joke and later when he found him at the brothel but Aegon was very drunk. But I don't remember the books saying something like he had a bad relationship with Aegon... not even in the mushroom writing. After his death, Aegon commanded a huge statue of Aemond and Daeron to honor them. Aegon even made a party in his honor when he killed Lucerys.
Yes both of them have been sufficiently avenged. Lucerys took his eye, Aemond took his life even if it was accidental. Aegon humiliates him in a brothel, and Aemond burned him to a point where he could hardly walk and can now no longer produce heirs.
This is the major difference between Aemond and Daemon. Daemon has love for his family unlike Aemond does. He was the lone dragon of the family all his life and now he treated them the way they treated him all his life. They mocked, ignored or walk by him like he was just a spare unlike he became a rider of the mighty Vhaegar. Thanks for uploading.
Observe at precisely 3:26 how Larys optimistically leans towards the maester as he delivers the supposed good news and how Aemond immediately catches on. Aemond would've been an excellent king if he inherited his fathers understanding for compromise and keeping the small folk content.
Hahahahaha this is what you fought for alicent, aemon isn't easy to control, you supported the people who believe that women shouldn't have power and now your regretting it
I mean, this political factions whole thesis is no women rulers, right? By definition if they were going to get bossed around by a girl it would be the dragon chick, not princess fiona. So why is she shocked?
"I don't distrust you because you're a woman; I distrust you because you're not as smart as you think you are" - Tywin Lannister. Just like Cersei she cannot see the only reason they have their position is because of their husband's
That wasn't about Aemond 😂 That was about her frustration and jealousy of Rhaenyra reaching a boiling point. She was mad because Rhae (and her children) will always have more freedom and less consequences because of her relationship to the king, while Alicent (and her children) has to suffer to achieve anything. None of which was Rhaenyra's fault.
Alicent: I'm smart. I can do things Aegon: why are you here? She really thought she was going to do stuff. He was right too. I cant let a woman rule other wise rhaenyra would be here.
Let's just be honest. Alicent is a bad mother. The boys don't respect her and why should they? Simply put, they were brats as kids and they are brats now. Aemond did something smart in summoning his grandfather and he came up with a pretty good plan for Rook's Rest that worked until Aegon appeared on the scene.
Im gonna be total honest, im not sure i fully understand show A's general coldness towards his family, especially his mother. I understand the general arrogance of youth part (especially his rivalry towards his uncle) but the coldness is a bit weird and seemingly unexplained.
His coldness against Aegon is understandable. He was bullied for many years. About Alicent part the show cut the important part from the book that might explain Alicent and Aemond current situation. According to F&B, Aemond came to Kingslanding and expected to be cherish for what he did to Luke but instead Otto and Alicent scolded him and called him an idiot. It could be reason why the relationship between Alicent and Aemond is so different.

Unlike Aegon, Aemond realized he won't find comfort and validation in his own mother, so he sought it from his madame from the brothel. Alicent no longer has any control of him, as he's probably bitter that she didn't defend him enough when he was a child, blames him for killing Luke and had love for Rhaenyra in her heart. She was doomed to be kicked out of the council the moment Aegon got burnt.
@@cheangizzz it's what I find interesting too, the differences in the way Aegon and Aemond talk about Alicent. Aemond has given up on Alicent. They probably had a big fight when Aemond came home to deliver the message that he killed Luke on purpose. He calls her by her name when talking to Criston Cole.
@@Prodigi50Agreed. Plus, Littlefinger was born in a very small castle so his family wasn’t that rich either.
Rhaenrya and Alicent are two sides of the same coin now
Both screwed over by their family
Both of them have screwed over family members for decades.
No sympathy for them. Let both of them deal with the consequences of their actions.
Please can you tell me where to listen to that podcast?
@@btstrasharmyexo-lbaekiesha2776 it's the official house of the dragon podcast. Almost all actors on the show have given their interview on that podcast. It's on TH-cam
I respect Ewan but (sometimes) the things he says in interviews confuse me. He said Aemond is loyal to Aegon and also implied that he didn't burn Aegon on purpose which is very questionable after seeing ep4. I can't take him seriously lol 😭 He loves Aemond so much, maybe that's the reason why he sometimes justifies Aemond's actions.
0:28 his iconic “hmmm”
Larys thought he was that slick? He actually thought 😆
1:19 No they haven't.
Aemond is a bottomless barrel. His lust for power, hatred and revenge will never be satisfied.
Chad Aemond vs virgin Alicent
If she’s a virgin, then he doesn’t exist 😂
"Virgin"? 😂
@@MrDibara never heard of the meme format?
@@timliebhauser virgin as slang. Like she's a loser nerd
I could never feel any sympathy for Alicent, she brought this all on herself.
No one cares. It’s just a show
@@dmoney8602no one cares about Alicent? great 😀

Rhaenys in the afterlife :😂🤣🤡
This was super satisfying. Alicent finally getting some good ole Karma
a strong trying to be hand under Aemond of all people is comical
The parallels between Larys and Aemond are interesting aren't they?
People not realizing Aemond did this because Alicent is his kryptonite and not because of her gender.
All of Alicent's positioning and political machinations have been to try and gather some semblance of power for herself, and Aemond just tears it all down in a single conversation.
The Targaryens is basically trolling Grandpa Otto
Fired =3

"Have the indignities of your childhood not been sufficiently avenged?"
Which one, when his older brother and cousins bullied and demeaned him when they were children?
All he ever needed to hear from them was:
"I'm sorry for what I did to you, you didn't deserve that."
"Don't worry, I've got your back, we'll get through this together."
"I love you. I need you."
If Aemond cannot have their love, then power will have to suffice.
The season could only focus on the green part and still I would enjoy it.
They’re insufferable.

The way Aemond slaps her hand away like a gnat. Love it.
Alicent was just never a good mother to the boys. She only seems to like Haelena.
Careful, Aemond- Larys will turn into Mr Steal-your-girl before you know it...
My god Alicent is so beautiful, especially in this scene. The actress that plays her is great
Beautiful outside, ugly inside.
"I don't distrust you because you're a woman; I distrust you because you're not as smart as you think you are" - Tywin Lannister. Just like Cersei she cannot see the only reason they have their position is because of their husband's
Well in this case it actually is because she is a woman
Poor Alicent being let go by her husban... i mean son who looks the same age as her if not older... She didn't deserve that...
@kyled7384 I like Alicent but she does: Rhaenyra is the heir but Alicent gainsay because, some of it, patriarchy tradition!

Rare indeed, I still hate him
Expect nothing less from a den of vipers and usurpers
He like both versions of seperoth and elf Sauron the way he acts and cold and heartless and so on
Aemond is not going to allow Alicent to manipulate him the way she manipulated Aegon. I loved this!
I feel no sympathy for her. She brought this on herself and picked the wrong team.
Team Green is better. Team Black is boring and lame.
@@gooby214🗿
"picked the wrong team", she is literally half the reason the team even exist😂
Alicent has fought for aemond more than anyone i know ...even when he lost his eye......
I can do things
Aegon: why are you here?
She really thought she was going to do stuff. He was right too. I cant let a woman rule other wise rhaenyra would be here.
Let's just be honest. Alicent is a bad mother. The boys don't respect her and why should they? Simply put, they were brats as kids and they are brats now. Aemond did something smart in summoning his grandfather and he came up with a pretty good plan for Rook's Rest that worked until Aegon appeared on the scene.
Good. I'd like Otto to face the havoc he wreaked on KL by his ridiculous greed and ambitions.
@@user-jr9bu7em8s agreed because as he said in episode 1 “they blame me for starting war when they usurped the throne, the queen speaks with 2 tongues”

Not many people can say they fired their mother
Aemond is certainly both impressive and scary. He’d be a better king than Aegon, but that’s not saying much, tbh.
She shouldn't have minced words. He is a member of the supreme family in Westeros. He is a member of another highly respected house. He rides the largest dragon in westeros. And now he is ruling all seven kingdoms. He is blessed beyond the greatest hopes and dreams of 99.9% of the people in Westeros. But all he can do is be bitter about losing one eye. Jfc, he needs to get over it, and stop being a petty brat.
I honestly cannot understand the negativity towards this episode. I thought it was excellent!
Alocent it so full of it here. Its one thing to be a voice of reason and from time to time point out a flaw in the Regent another to undermine a young man
Seeing Larys be brought down was so satesfying
This had to be about Cole, her, and the prince’s execution. Except Aemond never says anything…
YES! this means otto is going to be dead by the emd of the season or early S3.

The image of a mad king! Now we know where their crazy blood run from!
He is not mad , he is extremely rational actually

The guy grew up a pampered prince. Maybe some real indignities would have strengthened his character.
He grew up with bullying from his older brother and parents who didn't pay attention to him
Does anyone know what he meant by domestic pursuits

i’ve said this since last season, people are only understanding it now. aegon has had his evil deeds but at the end of the day, he was a troubled child who just wanted some love. aemond was always straight up evil because he was just jealous of his brother and siblings.
