I think The 1975 makes songs that feel like unrequited love better than any band I know of. 102, Somebody Else, Woman, and this cover and their cover of So Good to Me all feel like that to me.
1d’s version, to me, talks about a girl who was actually attractive, but didn’t believe it. Here, it adds more depth, like the girl was beautiful because she had a beautiful soul and it’s tragic how she couldn’t see that she was a beautiful human being, how she thought it didn’t count. It talks about a beauty that goes beyond looks.

It expresses the lyrics in a way that seem like it means something. Matty is passionate about what he is singing and he is putting his soul into the lyrics. It gives the slow vibe that allows the lyrics to sink in and it gives a new meaning to beauty.
listening to this now you can hear hints of Somebody Else and The Sound (the beginning piano chords to SE, the guitar riff sounds similar to the guitar solo in the sound ) in this and it honestly amazes me bc this was one of the big things that introduced me to them and looking at it now I hear those similarities before the songs were even thought of is crazy tbh.

I literally live on One Direction ,a specific amount of my everyday's time goes missing One Direction , praying for their return , but I just cant deny the fact this version is wayy better than 1D's one .. 1D's one is more chirpy , teen-appropriate and light-weight , but this one - God , this one is soo soulful , heart piercingly beautiful .. simply wow ..
