Someone gave me a plant, she was tired of it. She said it was from Hawaii. That was 3 yrs ago…I repotted it…gave it a bigger pot…..it was in backyard garden soil….it really needed better soil. I gave it some organic soil, had no idea what it was…gave it some fertilizer…this year I discovered I have a plumeria !!!…it is trying to bloom …I have inflos!…I am thrilled!…thank you for your posting and pictures!!!

Even if my plant doesn't flower, the tree itself looks so structural and lovely. Flowers would be a bonus. I just can't wait for my 20cm plants to grow.

I don't grow them, but I see Plumerias in parks. Here in Hong Kong, we have two varieties, Big pink flowered and white with yellow center ones.
The one with white petals and yellow center has the best fragrance.
It's almost tropical here in Hong Kong, and our lowest winter temperatures go down to 7°C (but only for a day or two) and boils to a maximum 34 °C.

I feel so bad about your Plumeria!!I know how excited you've been to see them flower! Our flowers become very special to us and it hurts when we lose one or have it damaged.I am sorry that happened to you.Dang Racoons!!!!

Congratulations!!! YEAH!!!! I am happy for your success at producing inflos for your Plummies! : ) You know... I had it happened to me a few times. Inflos will drop off when the weather is very dry (extreme heat + sun). So, you often need a spray bottle to spray leaves and branches (in between waterings); this is where the feeding comes in handy. But, now you know. : D Keep up the fine work. Yours look like a Candystripe Plumeria, by the way. I'll check to be certain.

I spent 5 years of my youth on Oahu, my dad was US navy, and I didn't get back there for 43 years, the first thing I did was to find a big bush tree of it and I cried, the smell is unlike anything. I like in Utah so we don't have them here, so I was thinking to buy a couple plants and grow them inside.

What a Lovely Memory :) I think you should grow at least one... consider starting them from seed. they germinate easily and can grow rather quickly. sadly they will take a few years before reaching blooming size

I just found this while searching for plumeria growers. I am just getting my dormant plants out of my garage. They have small leaves forming on the ends. Still too cool here to take them outside but I am so excited. This is their second season and I hope to have blooms this year! Any suggestions?

Had you ever thought that the broken inflow could have been a bird trying to light on it and it just broke off due to its weight? That's probably what happened. BTW, it's April 20, 2O22 and I'm growing 4 plumerias from cuttings I have in a potting mix. One is just starting to "leaf out" with a couple of green leaves and the other, looks to me, it putting out an inflorescence as the first budding! I know it's not a leaf b/c the structure looks totally different. It looks like a greenish "rack" of something, which MUST be a flower, or GROUP of them as it were. More on this latest development in a couple of weeks. 😉

Well, it's been almost a couple of MONTHS now, and the inflow has already popped out around 3 blossoms, with more on the way. I didn't know that they flowered like that. It's interesting. Size wise, mine are about the same i.e. small, but they come on a STALK, with about a dozen all rolled up and pop out about one a day now. They're beautiful, BTW.

might have been a large bird... we have had an issue with racoons lately so it might be that too :( As for bringing them in for the winter... that will happen soon, maybe mid to late september. I hope later but the temps will be the judge of that :)

They dominate mostly in the country Thailand. Certainly they are beautifully deposited all around the Asian islands, where people brought them across the oceans. Interestingly, they're dominately in the Caribbean islands, too. Very very old large trees sit in cemetaries/monasteries in the Caribbean.

Could it be some large bird that came and snipped off the inflo and made a mess??
Btw, when do you have to dig them up? I believe fall will be here soon?

  • @NGNG3

Bill: I think your Plummie is a Kaneohe Sunset! At first, I saw in video the shadow of white. It can be deceiving (the photos), but after looking again, and in the photo, it is relative to my Kaneohe Sunburst. So, yeah, there you have it... it is a kaneohe Sunset. Wow! You're a lucky fella to have gotten one in a marketplace. ; )

Does the inflow come out of the side of the stalk or off the top of the branch?

    • @PlantzNThings
      @PlantzNThings  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Off the top... The Inflow will cause the plant to branch... usually branching into 3

Hello, I have two plumerias planted in the same pot, one of them has not lost its roots, but the other definitely has, it's comming out of dormancy and I guess it's already producing roots. They are getting very tall, so I hope to see flowers on them soon. ^_^ But why one of them lost it's roots over the winter? Lack of water for too long. :/ So guys, be carefull with yours and water it when it starts shrivelling, your plumeria will thank you for that. :)

+PlantzNThings you're in Burlington too? Amazing! What are the chances!? I'm hoping to take mine out when it's nice and warm. Yours look like they are planted permanently? How do they handle the winter?

    • @PlantzNThings
