  • I'm back with another 7 Leaves copycat recipe, and this time it's of Mung Bean Milk Tea! I started attempting to recreate this drink about a year ago when my friend Frank gave me baseline recipe to go off of. Since then, I've been tweaking it ever since and after about 10 tries, I think I've gotten pretty close. I hope you all enjoy it!
    Ingredients:
    1/3 cup split mung beans (rinsed, soaked overnight, and drained)
    1/2 cup water
    1 1/2 cup milk, total (divided)
    1/2 cup coconut cream (Savoy brand)
    3 cups Jasmine Tea, total (split) (3 tbs tea leaves steeped in 3 cups hot water for 5 minutes or however long your brand recommends)
    16 pandan leaves (6 in leaves)
    1/4 tsp pandan flavoring (up to)
    12 tbs sugar (more or less)
    Notes:
    1. Make sure to rinse the mung beans really well before and after soaking them overnight.
    2. Don't steep your Jasmine Tea for longer than 5 minutes or else it'll become bitter.
    3. Use Savoy brand coconut cream for the best flavor, all brands taste different, and it does make a difference!
    4. After leaving the mung bean milk tea in the fridge for awhile (more than a day or two), the tea at the bottom of the pitcher will become thicker as the mung beans end up expanding. You can just continue pouring out your portions from the top layer and discard the grainy bottom layer.

    Hi! Can't wait to try this! If you don't have time to soak mung beans overnight what do you suggest we do? Thanks

    • @cookingwithvina3297
      @cookingwithvina3297  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can just cook the mung beans for a longer time (and add more water to start off with when cooking it) until they become soft and fully cooked!

    Does it still taste good without coconot cream and pandan flavoring extract? Thank you!

    • @cookingwithvina3297
      @cookingwithvina3297  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Coconut milk can be used instead of the coconut cream but I think the pandan flavoring is crucial! It's super cheap at asian grocery stores btw and can also be found on Amazon :)

    Which brother should I hand my $6.00 to because after seeing this process, they deserve it? Also the store employees are always super nice.

    I don’t have fresh nor frozen Pandan leaves where I live, does that mean I have to substitute more Pandan extract? 😓

    • @cookingwithvina3297
      @cookingwithvina3297  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Try it with the original amount of pandan extract (it's pretty flavorful), if more pandan flavor is needed, add more little by little! :)

    Throughout my hometown of Kerala this is a easy common tea to have. Those frozen pandan leaves that you are using are old that are sold in Korean stores. They do not move.. Only buy fresh, these can be purchased through Florida fruit growers or Ebay. People in USA will cheat you and say they are organic. The word organic is loose term. The people living in USA have never left USA to know the difference. 😊The true Asian dont treat others this way. Asians are very special. In southern India, Sri Lanka, and Thailand people use Pandan. It grows near water and has pineapple like bulb. Only certain people use pandan in India because of spiritual reasons.
    While you are cooking you need to send out good intention because if you do not the drink will not turn out correctly. You are the only one that can manifest what you want. Speak your words with authority..your decree would be..I made an amazing drink...stay with postivity
