There is actually a real life story about the Titanic, where two brothers were supposed to get on board and they had the tickets but the one brother got drunk that day/night before and wandered off so the other brother went looking for him. Then Titanic left without them and at first the sober brother was really angry at his brother but then was so grateful and realized how lucky they were when he heard the ship had sank.
They were three brothers Alfred, Bertranm and Thomas Slade, there was one more person who was with them they missed the ship by a few minutes, in relation to the film it would be just after Moody had let Fabrizio and Jack on board. There was loads of men waiting for work and the ones who replaced them all perished in the sinking
Olaf and Sven are lucky ones who lost of a poker game but their lives are saved when Titanic was sank. I guess Olaf owes Sven an Apology for punching him in the face
Jack didn't know that this was actually his death sentence but he never regretted it though. While he and Rose were waiting for the lifeboats to comeback as they floated in the cold, dark ocean after Titanic sank, he tells her that winning this poker game was still the best thing that ever happened to his life because he met Rose. Edit: It's February 10, 2023, I'm gonna go watch Titanic tomorrow in Imax during the limited re-release this Valentines. After Avatar: Way of Water, we got Titanic. They should make a movie about the other two luckiest guys. I think they would laugh a lot when they reminded Jack and Fabrizio, ironically. And later of the day the guy who was punched should say “hey I saved you” to the tall guy.
This scene is partially based on a real event: a group of stokers were drinking in local pubs and got delayed, and so when they got to the dock side, they saw to their horror that the gangway had been detached from Titanic, and they could not get aboard the departing liner. Sixth officer Moody, who let Jack and Fabrizio in in this scene (and died in the disaster), decided to call on the spare crew who were always aboard at departure time in case of just such an emergency, and closed the door. The six men who were late, brothers Bert, Tom and Alf Slade, together with two stokers and a trimmer, all lived to tell the tale of how they came within 10 seconds of probably being lost on the Titanic. So in terms of the film they reach the gangway just seconds after Jack and Fabrizio, but Moody had already ordered it detached. Unfortunately that would mean that though Moody's actions in real life saved the stokers, they also unknowingly sentenced Jack and Fabrizio to death.
For those of you thinking "Why the hell is the gap between the gangplank and the ship so wide? They could easily fall!", the ship was just minutes away from departure so they were in the process of pushing her from the dock.
