Just rewatched the movie for the first time since I was a teen on Netflix today. The scenery in the movie is amazing. Feels so real. Especially the early scenes of the titanic sailing, the beautiful sky, the interior of the shop, the lighting, when Jack and his friends are talking on the deck. Just feels so amazing to watch and so real
Seeing those iconic characters as behind the scenes, I am getting nostalgic when I saw this movie in 1997. I was under deep emotion about the dialogue at the end "come back", "come back". The film was huge success in India, still now showing in private tv channels. I am from India.
Of all BTS footage I’ve seen of different directors at work, something about James Cameron is so inspiring. He seems so clear and unwavering from his vision but so kind and patient in speaking with his actors/actresses, and does so in a way that they know what exactly what they need to do after being told only once (such as the footage when speaking to Victor Garber about the scene where he rolls out the blueprints).
I’ve always loved this movie not for its love story but for all the hard work and attention to detail that went into creating such an extraordinary masterpiece.
James Cameron - what a real artist. Actually going out into the territory and learning the influences and then coming out with one of the greatest movies ever made to share around the campfire. That's a real artist.
I seen it countless times. I'm a self-proclaimed "Titanic Fanatic." My Dad and I saw it in theaters for the first time on February 10th in 3D. Holy crap, I wanna see it again. My sister wants to see it. It's so amazing how much more things you pick up when it's on the big screen. It's always been my favorite movie.
Same here! I was really moved again. It wasn’t just because of how fantastic the movie is though, which it really is! It was re-living the experience in a packed out IMAX, the whole audience totally engrossed. -It really felt like 1998 again. ❤
I was 13 at the time and saw it in cinema I still vividly remember how much I cried in the sad parts. This is one of my favourite movies ever since.....
I think it's not that hard, if you have a clear imagination in your head. Just think of it, what goal you want to achieve and what does it have to look like. In my mind, managing people comes automatically, because you can't do this hard work all alone, but you know exactly what you want to show. But yes, in the end it is tough, but not impossible.
@@johndough2328 yeah you are correct on that, James Cameron is infamous for being really hard on his actors and crew. On the other hand, I could see the stress levels of trying to complete a film the size of Titanic would be very nerve racking
At the time this movie was being filmed, I was dating a grip that worked in the industry. I remember him telling me that James Cameron was directing this totally epic movie and they were filming down the coast. He said that all kinds of people in production were going down to check it out and everyone wanted to work on it, because it was going to be one of the greatest movies ever made. He didn't tell me what it was about, but years later when I finally saw this movie, a light bulb went off in my head and I was like, "Ohhh..." I always thought Leo and Kate didn't actually do the dancing in the dance scene, but I guess I was wrong - so cute.
I just watched Titanic yesterday (of course I’ve seen it at least ten times before) but it had been a good five or so years since watching it last… and I have to say, my heart was pumping, my jaw still clenched, and a big part of me kept wishing and hoping for Jack to still survive and hop on the darn door! The visuals, and the experience that you go through watching this movie… 3 hours flies by like it’s nothing! An absolute masterpiece and well and truly the best film ever made. James Cameron had such a vision and it came out perfectly. He’s a genius of the arts!
_"and I have to say, my heart was pumping, my jaw still clenched, and a big part of me kept wishing and hoping for Jack to still survive and hop on the darn door!"_ Count me in haha. Back in the early 00s I had that too, when watching the movie for the first time. Then, there was Mythbusters ... who tried to do what you, I and many would have "theatrically" liked, which was Jack & Rose both making it ashore. There was a sense of comfort in it, because, knowing maybe in an alternate universe, Jack may still be alive. And just the fact that the Mythbusters proved it wasn't impossible for Jack to have made it. Of course James Cameron was there to correct them that Jack dies and died, because, it's HIS movie. Meaning, in the end both turn of events have given me comfort. That includes, understanding later the decision behind letting Jack die, because, it wouldn't have felt justified in the background of the enormous loss of the 1.500 innocent souls who died and the ship itself. It was the best way to convey the message of the tragedy, but also make people think about the preciousness of life and illuminate the path of what perserverance will lead you to, concerning Rose did *not* give up and ended up living a happy, fulfilling and meaningful life. You know, that includes for all the women ... and men, who feel like they are trapped and have no way out, other than suicide, is what Rose was initally thinking of doing before Jack stopped it.
I’m gonna be so sad when James Cameron passes on. There is no one like him who is so dedicated to his craft to the point of insanity. I love it. The titanic is a true masterpiece and it has stood the test of time. It’s actually still better than any movies of today
I never knew the extent of their set. Like they built SO MUCH for this movie. I’m not sure if they did a full recreation of the titanic inside and out but for sure the set is MASSIVE and the work out in is insane
They built one side of an 80% scale model which was still massive. Most other sets are smaller sections of the ship stitched together with the magic of editing.
They only built half of the ship and the rest was put on the screen by computer. Digital sound and magic did the sound for the production and James Cameron. James Cameron wrote a book THE MAKING OF TITANIC. I read it in the 90s at school
Oh yes, for the water scenes they used dynamite to knock out parts of the earth for a full sunken water tank. Also, the air their breathing that appears to be cold is all added by computer The water tank was then warmed so that the actors and crew were comfortable The scene were the captain is blown in by the water James Caneron actually put on a wet suit and used a waterproof steadicam to get that shot. He was actually exposed to the force of rushing water

I have no idea how the director was able to orchestrate all of this. It’s quite amazing. The sinking scene looked incredibly dangerous for the actors … per a CBS article: “Several actors were injured while shooting the famous sinking scene in "Titanic" (1997) after they fell and struck parts of the ship. The injuries suffered ranged from broken bones to ruptured organs.” Yikes. And Kate Winslet almost drowned and she got pneumonia … crazy.
I don't know why. Even Cameron does 90% CGI nowadays with Avatar. One of the reasons Titanic and Alien were such hits, was because of the use of animatronics and robotics etc.
It’s amazing to see these people out of character, taking direction, and really working to make sure this film does its best to honor the lives lost and the tragedy of that night.
This film never ages. A true testament to James Cameron as a director and everyone who worked on the film. Leo and kate are still amazing actors. I still take the time to watch this movie every year. Google must of been listening to me because this popped up after watching the movie.
This was filmed in Rosarito Mexico. I was a 15 year old kid vacationing just over a mile down the beach with my family. We're from Orange County, CA. Our place had a balcony overlooking the beach. All night long we saw a big ship on shore -- which seemed a little odd -- and a bunch of lights, but we had no idea they were filming a movie. I wish I had walked down there. I had the biggest crush on Kate Winslet after seeing the film, haha.
This is probably the best movie I have ever seen, I can't think of any better movies I've watched. Jack and Rose - even though they weren't real life characters - just made it so much more heartbreaking to watch. It was a tragedy playing out within a tragedy. It's a powerful reminder of such a massive loss of life. And how truly terrifying and saddening those couple of hours would have been for all those poor souls onboard. Without the brave Carpathia doing everything they did to try and assist the Titanic, the survivors could have eventually died from the cold, so what Captain Rostron and his crew did, will never be forgotten either.
@@roselandebazelais8236 if you believe that then do your research. It was a married woman and a young guy that were sneaking off to have an affair, it’s where the story comes from. ( I did say loosely)

unbelievable how Cameron managed to pull this off. the scale of it is unfathomable. true talent. imagine how much money they would have made on top had they preserved this ship set as a museum for a couple of decades at least.
The coolest thing about the behind the scenes footage, is that Jim Cameron is dressed in modern clothes surrounded by all these other people dressed in clothes from 1912. And it doesn't matter what their characters were to each other in the movie, they all treat Jim with respect when he speaks.
I think the romance is a very important part of the film because it honors many of the women who survived the Titanic but lost husbands and sons on the ship. They were seen as lucky because they survived, but they still lost people they loved very much.
5:16 I actually laughed at this point, where Ruth asks if the ship is unsinkable, Cal said she is unsinkable, then it cuts to the people falling down the deck. 😂
It’s weird to see how this film was made because everytime I watch Titanic I feel like someone had captured the horrific incident in real lol The efforts, time, dedication the crew have put into this masterpiece is incredible, they deserve the appreciation.
I’m glad I was old enough to remember seeing this in the theater. Between knowing it was based on a true event, the music, the beautiful way it was filmed, and the tragic character of Jack, it was gut-wrenching. I felt gloomy for a while afterwards.
You should see the 1998 Oscars (still available on YT) showing Cameron holding a minute of silence in the room, after winning Best Movie at the awards.

James Cameron is a real genius. You can feel how deep he was in the Titanic topic, this movie has so much soul inside.
Not one person in 2023 would put in this kind of effort to make a solid movie. What an amazing thing to get to watch behind the scenes
Seeing those iconic characters as behind the scenes, I am getting nostalgic when I saw this movie in 1997. I was under deep emotion about the dialogue at the end "come back", "come back". The film was huge success in India, still now showing in private tv channels. I am from India.

There really needs to be an award for best extras ensemble because of this film. the extras were just phenomenal. everyone did such an amazing job.
Yes I also admired the extras
Of all BTS footage I’ve seen of different directors at work, something about James Cameron is so inspiring. He seems so clear and unwavering from his vision but so kind and patient in speaking with his actors/actresses, and does so in a way that they know what exactly what they need to do after being told only once (such as the footage when speaking to Victor Garber about the scene where he rolls out the blueprints).

Basically being a director is managing people. I could never do this. Managing people is bloody tough.

It's unbelievable that in the midst of such chaos, an actor is able to get into character and act as if the film crew wasn't there.
I really appreciate all these legends for making a wonderful movie.
_"and I have to say, my heart was pumping, my jaw still clenched, and a big part of me kept wishing and hoping for Jack to still survive and hop on the darn door!"_
Count me in haha.
I watch the movie atleast 1 every year

Makes you think they built an actual Titanic and sunk it.
Also, the air their breathing that appears to be cold is all added by computer
The water tank was then warmed so that the actors and crew were comfortable
The scene were the captain is blown in by the water James Caneron actually put on a wet suit and used a waterproof steadicam to get that shot. He was actually exposed to the force of rushing water

They are actually loosely based on a couple aboard the ship.

I think the romance is a very important part of the film because it honors many of the women who survived the Titanic but lost husbands and sons on the ship. They were seen as lucky because they survived, but they still lost people they loved very much.
