    You are so not alone with this thinking.
    “It's good, its good, and I've understood, That I am the one to make the world look, And I am the one to make the world shook, And I am the one for history books”
    It starts with one person and then when that one person speaks and pulls more people with similar views and then it spirals to where actual change begins.
    We are living in a world where im sitting here watching this thinking “how is this out on the internet and not being censored?” And that is part of the problem. These are words that need said out loud but the few at the top don’t want the rest of us to hear.
    Your music is 🔥, your heart is gold and you have a strong passionate soul. As you say in several of your songs, please give hope for our society and never sell out and certainly never stop being this version of you because you are CERTAINLY one for the history books.

      In a young looking body that feels like an old man to live in. I felt like a little old lady a month or two ago and I'm getting the spring back in my step now that I'm eating again but I've still got achy bones and knee joints that click all the time, and I stopped menstruating for six months, which can be an osteoporosis risk. I'm ginger and my hair started to grow blonde. The referral letter says "severe malnutrition". Yes!!! All true, and I really appreciate how balanced your perspective still is/was here. Now increasingly we are seeing how many scientific studies are not replicated and how many are not even published (publication bias). I'm in Psychology and its replicability got a bad rep but medicine also has a big problem with this. Most scientists genuinely want to learn and discover new knowledge, but there's also pressure to publish and, yes, conflict of interest due to ....The Money Game.

  • @avalonprojectwildfire
    @avalonprojectwildfire ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Absolutely. It's a basic human right. Medical staff are so overwhelmed and overworked that a lot of the ones with big hearts had to quit because it was too much. Then we're left with an underfinanced system.
    In the hospital I was in earlier this year (I stopped eating and was basically about to die if I didn't start eating again; grief reaction, partly)... Anyway, in that hospital some of the staff were really condescending because they were stressed and they'd had to garden themselves to survive the job and 12 hour night shifts and stuff. It was hard.
    Sometimes it's hard for the staff to know that they're really... trying their patients...! And that maybe we actually study stuff like epigenetics and the microbiome and individual differences in psychology. That maybe we know some stuff too. I was on the gastroenterology feeding ward; "I think you're nuts if you think you're feeding us!"
    The world needs Universal Basic Income and universal healthcare, and for scientists to follow their passions and not profits. And find us the real cures and the real diagnoses so that we don't get false positives, pigeon holed and hindered.
    Progression. Yes.

    I'm with you completely. I've been told for years I can't have referrals from my GP because it eats up their funds. And I can't afford private healthcare. I've just been told to take antidepressants over and over for neurological symptoms which I know for a fact weren't/aren't caused by anxiety or depression, but I'm told my symptoms are somatic. It's ridiculous. All they care about is profiting from our illnesses.

    This was such an important message.
    I live in NY and I have a son with Down syndrome. When he was 4, he became extremely sensitive and anxious when around spinning fans, elevators, wipers and other things. It got to a point where he refused to eat in a room that had a ceiling fan.
    I brought him to a neurologist to look for answers. We waited for over a 1/2 hour in the waiting room and I was able to entertain him with books and toys they had in the room. Once we saw the doctor, she spent about a 1/2 hour asking me questions confirming answers that I had already filled out in the questionnaire. Because I wasn't paying attention to him and there were shiny dangling objects in the room, my son became restless and could no longer keep still.
    She examined him for about 5 minutes and pointed out features he had related to Down syndrome. She seemed overly focused on those features and dismissive when he answered some of her questions correctly (e.g. colors, animals, body parts, etc.). Next she stated that he was too young to be diagnosed with ADHD, but she recommended treating him for it. She told me to choose between clonidine or risperdal because "we have to slow him down". And to expect severe weight gain as a side effect.
    She never explained what caused the issues I originally went there for, so I pushed to see if there were any other options before putting him on medication. After pressing her for answers, she blurted "Don't you want to make your life easier?" No, that was not why I was there. I wanted to help my son get better, not turn him into a zombie to make my life easier.
    I'm not against treating ADHD with proper medication, but this did not seem right and I lost trust in this doctor's intention to actually help my son.
    Sadly, we all need to question more, because doctors aren't necessarily trying to help us get better. Some are just trying to just mask symptoms so that patients are easier to deal with. And, yes, there are profit motives for prescribing medications before exploring other options.
    My son is in his teens right now I'm glad he is not on any meds and is doing pretty well right now. Just goes to show you the suggested drugs would have caused more harm to him than good.

    Just want to mention some experience with Ritalin diagnosis. My son at 6 was told to us to put him on Ridalin for being hyper. He was also going through my husband and I splitting up.
    Immediately they wanted him on meds without any tests! I said no way.
    I looked at his twin boy cousins,his neighbour's friend and a friend's son, at the same age. They were all the same.
    My experience is most boys are hyper at that age. If you watch girls,they can sit with one toy and be content all day. Boys need more exercise or more toys to keep them happy. They just don't like being bored. If you don't have time with your boys, then try doing that better first. My son had no problems after that, no problems in school. He is now grown and an Engineer.
    Big difference in a hyper diagnosis than a child who hits his head on the wall,or physically hurts people or can't handle being with people. That needs to be checked.
    Basically before you say yeah ok, and give them drugs, see what else it could be, or keep him busy. I'll bet not as many girls are put on ridalin!
    The other is they wanted to bump him up in two grades, grade 2 and grade 6. So do we take these brilliant kids who are bored because they know more and drug them?
    Ren you are brilliant and most likely put on drugs because of these doctors not knowing. Also once on meds,you are treated different from everyone especially family that think you have problems!You lose your self esteem forever.

    • @SamSepiol-xh4om
      @SamSepiol-xh4om ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly and teaching small children how they can manipulate their mood or behavior with a drug can never be a good thing. I know alot of people who got ritaline as kids and i think that leads to drug abuse at an older age. At least i know many people who ended up doing all sorts of drugs after getting them as a child. I'd tell every parent to take one of these pills themselves before giving it to their children and i would say 90% would take a step back. Everyone who tried ritaline knows that this is nothing you would ever give to your children! Raising kids isn't easy but just because you're to tired to really take care of your children isn't an excuse to drug them.

    Patent law is also an issue in this space. Big pharmaceutical companies procure patents for progressive research/products so that they can hold it close to their chest and choose to either withhold or drip feed solutions to society. Frankly, nobody should be able to patent medical advancements.

    • @sputukgmail
      @sputukgmail ปีที่แล้ว

      There is a balance to be found with medical advancement as a lot of it takes a lot of money to develop, and a lot of research goes nowhere. While the public could fund that, it would actually be expensive to the public, and would tend to stifle innovation as some advances come from people taking gambles that a managed research programme probably wouldn’t have tried as the odds of it leading to results seemed too low.
      Private funding for research can work, but to attract people to take those gambles, they have to have an incentive - of making not only their money back, but a big pay out. People wouldn’t bet in a casino if all you got back from winning was the money you put on red. (Ren might relate to that analogy given something he did in 2014 I just read on a blog site he made back then ;) ).
      But, you are right that gouging people for treatments is an issue - and there should be some way to cap the profits made from innovations and then they become public domain.
      The Green Party had a plan for universal basic income in their manifesto a while back (may still be there) which would allow companies so many years to profit from any invention, and then they become public domain. The idea is that companies benefit from society - roads, energy infrastructure, housing, etc so after maybe 7 years to profit from something, it belongs to everyone - including other companies to take and innovate further (same would go for music, books, etc - all intellectual property would have a period to exploit it, and then become public).
      I actually think that’s a potential compromise that could work. Allow profit, tempt people to invest in gambles, but curtail how long/much profit can be had to avoid things like what happened with insulin in America (or is it the epi-pens? Whichever it is where a patent troll bought the patent and put up the price 1000x - when they hadn’t done anything to develop the treatment, just paid to “own” it and then hold people to ransom because people’s lives depend on it).

      I believe a healthy society would combine the best aspects of all models. With healthcare its not about getting a free lunch, it's about ensuring you stay healthy and dont die of some treatable disease just because you can't afford it. When you're sick you cant work, when you cant work you cant earn money, when you cant earn money you cant afford healthcare, and you're left to rot. Sure encorporate capitalism into other aspects of life, so that the harder you work the more you are rewarded for contributing to a society - but divorce that model from healthcare and education.
