  • Hello everyone,
    Something a little different this week!
    I ve been loving getting out riding the Electric Eleglide T1 Trekking Bike :
    eleglide.com/products/removab...
    Ive wanted to camp on a roundabout for ages now and decided to do it with a little more risk to it... i camped about 200m from a Police station.
    This roundabout is one of the busiest ways into town and doesn't offer much cover so i thought it would be a great place to do a proper "stealth camp".
    I packed light and made my way into town through the beautiful Suffolk back roads. Passing farmers fieldds and train lines before stopping off at Sainsbury's for my food and ale.
    I love wild camping and i really love camping in some of these "out of the box" places that offer a little bit of a buzz by way of increased risk of being spotted the the law or the general public.

    Even if they saw you they wouldn't do anything about it! I was a cop there for 9 years and we would do welfare visits on people sleeping in the woods, and other places...you're not breaking the law. Love your work! My favourite wild camp was on a Norfolk beach and the 3 of us dropped some mushrooms 🤣
      We were sat in the dunes just crying with laughter at the thought of us being like the fellowship of the ring. When we woke up we seen our footprints and how far we actually walked that night, it wasn't far at all and my mate shit his pants in his sleep while his dog ate it.
      I don't advocate drugs either, only tripped a few times in my life. But fuck me, we still laugh about that night.

    As a veteran of Afghanistan myself I fully support anyone who supports the mental health of ex and serving armed forces people. I was lucky enough to come out of the army after 7 years and two tours of Afghanistan not suffering any PTSD, but I know so many who didn’t. I have a mate of mine who served in 9 para and after trying to kill himself in his flat, which included the police literally kicking his front door down and having to be tasered by the police, because he thought they were Taliban as he was hallucinating due too his severe mental health. He was sectioned under the mental health act, and thanks to the great work from veteran charities he got the help he needed and now is living a happy, content life. But he came so close and it could of been a different outcome had we not checked on him and called the police for a welfare check when we did. Well done on supporting mental health especially for our boys and girls who’ve served Queen and country. Just one life saved makes it all worth it🙂👍🏻

    Hello mate , I saw paddy's mention about mental health after his bout, the phrase " I'd rather have you crying on my shoulder than me crying at your funeral " struck home. A young lad, only 19 and a family friend took his life two years ago ( also in East anglia, Lincolnshire) and its ripped his family apart. As an older man I have had brushes with oth depression and suicidal thoughts, but made it through by talking to my wife and children, well so far at least!. • @whoever6458
    @whoever6458 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Thanks for the mental health tips! I have PTSD too, although not from any war, but from an accident and from some abuses I've experienced in my life. I struggle the most with hyper vigilance too. Sometimes all I sit and do at my stealth camps is look through the woods with my binoculars trying to see what that sound was.
    It doesn't help that the time before last, I was at my fort and a police helicopter came over, circled my exact location, said over the PA to not grab the rifle. Even though I don't even own a rifle, I was worried that they might think one of the branches I had cut maybe looked like one. Then they said to walk towards the train tracks and I literally did consider doing exactly that but decided that no matter what I did, the cops were probably going to shoot me so I decided to make them come into the woods to find me. It was only when they said to put your hands on your head and walk backwards towards the officers that I realized they were after someone else. That scared the shit out of me!
    As much as I know that police helicopter was flying directly over my fort while I had a fire in my Dakota fire pit looking for someone in the area and yet they did not see me, I still feel like my fort is the most obvious thing ever. I realize that it doesn't matter how many cop helicopters fly over or how many people walk within a few feet of my location, I'm always going to struggle with feeling completely exposed just because of how my mind is right now. At the same time, there's something exciting about it when you have someone walk by so close that you can easily see their faces and yet they walk by as if what you've built is just another pile of brush near some trees instead of a fort with a person inside it even. I guess it's a love-hate relationship with anxiety. I don't know. I'm really not fond of the police flying overhead though.

    My dad was a sapper (Royal Engineers) during WW2. He served in North Africa and Italy for the duration, making several beach landings at Sicily and Salerno. When the war ended he stayed on for 3 years taking up minefields in the Adriatic. After he died in 1990 my mother told me he used to wake up at night shouting out and panicking. Of course in those days PTSD didn't have a name and my dad was never the type to make a fuss anyway.

    I think we are living in times where it is good to be hyper vigilant, don't be scared, be prepared. Sometimes the people who are said to have mental issues are actually the ones who are sane, the whole world is burying it's head in the sand and walking straight into economic Armageddon. I got wiped out in 2008 and do everything I can to make sure it isn't going to happen again, having no debt is the best starting point.

    • @marcustaylor670
      @marcustaylor670 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jc-fy1wl - Years ago I'd have agreed with you to a point, however with the possibility we are all going to be moved to crypto currencies and given social credit scores it might not be that simple this time around. I went bankrupt in 2010 after the GFC and although I've had no loans and a credit card I pay every month in full since, I have recently had my past affecting things like car insurance. One company said they can't insure anyone who has ever been bankrupt without explanation when I called them. I pay my premiums in full in a single payment every year and up until this year never had a problem getting insured with any company. I've noticed that when you apply for jobs now they want information on your student loans and to do a credit check so my gut feeling is taking on debt when you don't have too is a really bad idea.
      In the short term loading up and defaulting might work but in the long run it could be financial and social suicide when what ever economic calamity is coming has calmed down. If you have the stomach for appearing in front of a judge and managing without a bank account (was about a year for me) it might work out, but it is major hassle when creditors send collection agents knocking. If you make that bed you will have to lay in it, money disappears during bad times way faster than debt. You will need good friends to help you out. For me even though I got my debts written off, overall it wasn't worth it and I'd rather have not had the items I bought, or the debt and the hassles that came with it.

    Wow, what a bizarre coincidence. A few weeks ago just before I had my brain hemorrhage I was thinking about using a roundabout for a secret garden. I thought that nobody else would think of going there.
    Thanks for sharing 👍
    At least now I know to be aware of crack heads frequenting roundabouts. There's quite a bit of woodland near my house so maybe I just need to put more effort into scoping out an alternative location.
    This is the first time I've seen any of your videos, which is why it seems like an even bigger coincidence. I too love the idea of stealth/wild camping. However after what I've dealt with recently I need to rebuild my self confidence. Hopefully after I've seen a few more of your videos I will be able to gain more inspiration

    When I first saw one many years ago I thought who on earth would make steps on the side of an old building with no doorway 😂 . Then it occured to me it was a mount/dismount step .

      It could also be a milk churn stand. In the days before milk tankers dairy farmers would load their full milk churns onto a cart, wagon or tractor and trailer and place them on a stand. The collector would then draw up next to the stand and transfer them to his wagon or cart. The elevated platform meant that the farmer only had to lift a heavy churn(s) once, onto the cart, trailer or wagon. He could transfer them to the stand with no more heavy lifting. Equally the collector could transfer the churns without having to lift them any significant distance. It helped save everyone's aching back.

    Brilliant - like a 12 yr old playing at Soldiers, the wheelies made me laugh out loud.
    As small kids we loved playing on East End Bomb sites, late 50s early 60s often saw and (understandably) told to avoid the ex military Human Shrapnel souls that still frequented them.
    Civilians were still struggling to get their own lives back together but we just had fun.
    Although Support for our ex Military has improved greatly. I find it desperately sad, in a time when most of us have better safer lives because of those who stand up, fight and protect us, we have to beg or raise funds for the invisible souls needing help and support. I am forever grateful and humbled.
    Thank you for your honesty, the entertaining vids and for giving back.

    Near Sainsbury's petrol station there's a guy living in a massive nest with a tent inside it... A few minutes up the path towards homebase, there's the remains of an enormous camp that must've been two or three big tree houses with generators,computers, carpets water tanks, the lot. Looks like it was all burned down about ten years ago. I would have liked to have seen pictures of people living there - must've been impressive.

    As a veteran myself I totally grok your takeon the term 'stealth camping'. Compared to what the average digger does every night in the field, most of what is shown on TH-cam is hardly truly stealthy camping. I have a camp planned tonight in a spot near my home that I am sure will work well so long as I don;t do anything dumb... but you never know and that is the appeal I guess. I understand about the hyper-vigilance you mentioned and luckily haven't experienced that for decades (I'm 60) but you are spot on that it helps to talk to someone who has been there and can empathise. I subbed.
