    I was surprised (since I have no experience with this Plasti Dip) that you can also spray it on the vehicle paintwork without damaging it. Furthermore, I was amazed that you can just pull it off to the edge of the lettering without first scratching it with a Stanlay knife. Good job and great video; Learned something again.

    • @Themazcorner

      yes it works really! Not as nice as real paint but for badges etc it works well in my opinion

    Looks good. Never having worked with Plastidip, I assumed you would have had to taken the badges off the car to get good results. Nice to know that's not the case, as I might attempt this at some point. Trying to decide between using Plastidip or just springing for black badges (which I know involves removing the bumper, but it might look better in the long run?).

    • @Themazcorner
      @Themazcorner  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The best option if possible is to switch out the badges that have a real paint job. In my case it would get very expensive. What I might consider doing is to buy chrome OEM badges and have them painted and install those badges. But as you say at least in the front the safest is to remove the bumper in order to be able to remove the badge without damaging anything. However the plasti dip is a simple method and is more or less risk free as it is not permanent.

    Turned out very nice. I am thinking about doing my front badge and mirror caps in your anniversary orange, or as close as I can get with plastidip.

    • @Themazcorner
      @Themazcorner  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! Just remember the surface is "rubberized" it's not smoth as real paint. Also you can get some small "pits" in the finished result, thinking mainly of the mirror caps as it is larger area. But you can give it a go, if it does not look good you can always rip it off

  • @SuperDiagnostic
    @SuperDiagnostic ปีที่แล้ว

    Well done, thats really cool to see as I'd known about PlastiDip for some time but never used it. Initially thought you might be using a scalpel to cut off the excess paint which made me cringe... 🤣

    • @Themazcorner
      @Themazcorner  ปีที่แล้ว

      :D no knifes or scalpels comes close to my paint haha.
      It works really well. Also in worst case if it gets damaged one can peel it of and redo if need be

  • @ecristofoli
    @ecristofoli 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Left my PD flat, also attempted to do the series badge but the out come was less than perfect. I do have to say that with PD you can see the pits like surface on the finish. Hence If you have the $$ and want to rip out the bumper then you might be incline to go the other route.

    • @Themazcorner
      @Themazcorner  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      indeed the results are not as good as a real paint job, have to look at it from a distance :D. The rear emblems turned out better from a surface PoV compared to the front badge for some reason. Could be the distance I was holding the nozzle... I am thinking of doing the long route and painting OEM badges...

    You, sir, are a dang genius! I very much appreciate your meticulous documentation of your badge mods. Also, your garage looks like an operating theater - very impressive! A video tour would be great.
    My only suggestion would be to omit the background music. While it's very nice I think it makes your narration more difficult to hear.

    Also the chrome emblem on the steering wheel kept reflecting into my eyes on my ride up Pikes Peak this last weekend. So I would thing it I did the same on that, it would match better the blackened AC/Heater vent surrounds.

    Was wondering what to do with that chrome. Was looking at the replacements and I think now I know what to do. Question: Why not take all of them off, spray them, and reapply?

    • @Themazcorner
      @Themazcorner  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      On the MX5 the badges are held in place with locking washers on the others side of the bumpers. So there are two pins going into the bumper from the badges.
      To removed the badges either they have to be bent out or one has to remove the bumbpers in order to be able to removes those locking washers

    • @Themazcorner
      @Themazcorner  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      To safely remove the badges at least on the front the bumper needs to be taken off.
      Maybe it is possible to pry off. But there are pins and locking washers behind. Not to risk damaging the paint/car I opted for this.
      Maybe during winter now I can take of the bumper and do a "real" paint job

    • @Themazcorner
      @Themazcorner  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      On the MX-5s the badges are seated with tape and pins. The pins are secured from behind the panel with locking "tabs". The one in the front do have metal tab as well and it is a bit risky to pry of the badge without first removing the front bumper.
      No issues as such with using plastidip and having the bagdges on the car. However going the route with new black badges (painting oem ones or buying aftermarket ones) I would opt for removing the front bumper and for the rears just try to pry off the badges.

    I have been watching this but forgive me there seems to be a step missing ! you show the area around the emblems with no masking tape
    and then you paint on to the orange surface .. and at the end you are peeling away masking tape from the emblems... ?
    Probably me ... Thanks Ramon

    • @Themazcorner
      @Themazcorner  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The area closest to the emblems are left uncovered with some margin. This is so you have enough of the plasti-dip to pull on once removing the excess. The plasti-dip will "brake" off by itself around the edges of the emblems/lettering/numbers. The masking tape is not on the emblems
      Not sure if this answered your question though

    • @Themazcorner
      @Themazcorner  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      the plastidip as such is no issue for the paint and it is reversable. However the best option would be to get badges with real paint and mount. I am thinking of getting OEM chrome badges and painting them but that requires some more work as the chrome needs to be removed, priming, painting and the removing bumpers etc to do a risk free install.
