Most of my drawings at this time are due to Danny's encouragement and prompts and Draw With Me. He gives me permission to draw something that's not drawn for the end result (for others to judge), and that the most important part is the process/experience of drawing and to have fun while doing it (for me).

‘I don’t know what to draw’
Circles. A lot of them. Wagon wheels, gum nut centres, circles of life, bubbles, sand, light and dark textures. Circles. I draw a lot of them.
And when I can’t draw, I write lists which I’ve started keeping for artistic and memory keeping purposes.

Hey Mr. George; beautiful sketchbooks you showed there. You’re so right about drawing from everyday life - and it’s so simple to do. A bowl of fruit on the dining room table, a set of keys in a tray, your cat taking a nap on the floor in a patch of sunlight. I try to fill up the page, stay loose, and get a variety of lines and values. 🙏

When I am journaling consistently I think, "what will I write about today?" I think about struggles and emotions. Sometimes I think about something beautiful, but it's usually something negative. Those things do need to be explored, but they are not what I want to revisit. When I think about what to put in an illustrated journal the visions before me become more beautiful and treasured. I don't have any problem with what I should draw... until my goal is improving my abilities. Even then, there are my daughter's tiny shoes she has worn a hole in. Or my favorite picture of my son, or eldest daughter. (Pictures hold still a bit longer than kids do)

I picked up pen and ink last year and this is the 1st Inktober I've experienced. I have to say that the daily prompts have actually helped me stay on the "draw every day" wagon.
Normally, I would try to stay committed to drawing every day but that would only last for three, four days and then I'd stop for whatever excuse. So maybe that's all I need is someone or something to prompt me to stay committed. Because as we all know, the more you practice the more progress you make.

I start the 'doodle a day' challenges with the best intentions, but always fall off the wagon eventually - I think it's my inner toddler who doesn't like being told what to do! 🤣🤣
Mixing paint colours is a good way for me to get inspired, even if I end up using a different medium entirely! I think being the kind of person who wants to know everything about everything helps too. 😊

Ha ha ha. I had a total laugh over how events unfolded. I listened to this talk, & went for a walk looking around. The first thing I encounter in the park across the street is a little boy, quite high up in a tree, making unusual noises, sort of like squealing at me, as I walked past underneath. I had to run back & get my camera. I got a photo from behind before his mom yanked him out of the tree. TOTALLY drawing this boy in a tree..... And walking around, looking, with a camera, sprouted another whole project idea involving photos related to parts of buildings.

Thank you for continuing to make me think. And for continuing to tell me that it's not about thinking. It's about doing. I paint in my head, ALL the time. 2021 has actually been worse than 2020 and I've used that as an excuse to only paint in my head. I'm in the process of moving and my promise to myself is to start doing once I'm moved in. My hope is that my sons bring bagels. That would make a great cover page! You are a blessing.

Perfect insight, as always, and perfectly timed. Thank you. I have spent so much on time on study and not being in the moment, drawing and writing about my own life. It's always seemed so small and unimportant. Yet it is valuable to me and there is so much to notice and be grateful for. I will try again. And again. Thank you for the constant reminder to pay attention. You aren't just an artist, you are a wise mindfulness master.

Came across your channel today, while looking for sketchbook tours. Which I watch (in awe), instead of actually putting pencil to paper in the beautiful, blank sketchbooks I have bought. I loved to draw as a child, always had some kind of drawing implement in my hand. As I hit my late teens, I gradually drew less and less, until I stopped altogether by the time I was 20. I’m now 47, and have made a few attempts over the years to start up again, and each time I do a few sketches and give up again.
Watching your videos today has really motivated me, I will pick up those beautiful empty sketchbooks, and fill them, with anything and everything, and without thinking anything less than a masterpiece is a waste of time 😂.
So thank you for these great inspirational videos. You are the Bob Ross of sketchbooks!

Dear Danny, you are so right…BUT your proposal to simply draw everything what comes across your way during the day is surely practical for singles who live alone, but impractical for people with family especially with kids. I can’t sit down and drift away in my parallel drawing world while my husband and kid are sitting together with me at the table. It’s disrespectful to them and to the food that has to be honored focusing on the joy to eat with all senses. Living and enjoying the moment together without doing other stuff.
I often feel bad about drawing because even when I find a gap during the day where I can do something on my own, I still have that bad conscience about it because I feel egoistic. And I think that’s a dilemma for a lot of people….

    • @stacyhannon4081

I use to feel the exact same way. And then I realized that I too, deserve to have a few minutes to myself, to draw, or in my case, paint with my watercolors, that I love so much. I found that if I paint for just ten minutes a day, I am actually happier, more relaxed, less anxious, and in a better mood. I currently have ten people living in our home now, since the pandemic began, and three of them are my amazing grand babies, ages 6, 5, and 1. And I have made art a daily practice that we do together to get some extra special time and hoped great memories for them. Even the one year old has his own age appropriate paints and really enjoys it. It’s my favorite part of the day. What I am trying to say is that you absolutely deserve to have some time each day for yourself, and a creative practice that makes you happy. All the best
