- The Valkyrie's in God of War are a set of optionable bosses that can be taken on towards the end of the game. Turns out, beating them as fast as possible is quite popular with the speedrunning community. So watch as speedrunner Clowned187 takes on every single of these challenging foes on the game's hardest difficulty, no less. Also, did we mention that the developers who worked on this boss also happened to stop by to witness the feat? Ride along with Mihir Sheth (Lead Combar Designer), Denny Yeh (Lead Combat Designer), and Rob Meyer (Senior Staff Technical Combat Designer) from Sony's Santa Monica Studio as they watch this incredible speedrun.

For those wondering. This run was done on new game gmgow. Weapons and armor are not fully upgraded since you can't farm muspelheim and NG+ wasn't even available yet. Also, Katy (GUNNR) is named after Katy ""Parry" 😆

Tapping into the spiritual fulfillment of creators seeing their work interacted with at a high level
it's funny that the blades doing more dps was unintentional because it's nicely balanced out by the fact that you have to quick throw the axe to interrupt the valkyrie flying moves making it more risky to use the blades
Unless you use Atreus
Who is not able to interrupt on gmgow
just use Atreus shock arrows

@@insydian It doesn't work on harder modes. Have to axe or use blades distance attack if it can reach.
The analysis of the mechanics is really fascinating. Fantastic combat system they put forth in this game.

Sigrun was my hardest boss fight ever. Took me hours to beat her on normal difficulty. Harder than the soulsborne bosses. For me it was harder than Melania.
For me it was not, it was pretty easy

This is my favorite game of all time. Knowing these little secrets is awesome. I’ve spent countless run thrus just trying to sort alot of this out myself. And not doing dew runs or cheating but really learning the mechanics in and out
Funny how the last hit against Sigrun was an Atreus arrow.
Both rota and sigrun took me over an hour each to beat.This will be 🔥 🔥🔥

Dev, said it clear Sigrun health bar is a lie, some time heavy runic attacks and rage attacks wouldn't make any damage at all, when we are in the final phase of the health bar, it made me play the game more aggressively and focused on the next try tho.
Not just her it seems.
No, they said the runic attacks will always do damage, but after three or four runic attacks in quick succession the valkyrie will no longer become staggered and will begin a new attack sequence.
So the "Bag of Holding" is canon in GoW. Sweet!
Great gameplay and commentary
My favorite things to use is grip of surtr for the axe and blessing of the frost.

The multiple stomps on NG+ was a pain in the butt for the fire Valk....
It’s pretty easy to dodge but if you don’t you’re basically losing your entire healthbar

for people that are saying "they should been reacting to GBG speedruns, well GBG has a few speedruns but not that fast as you many think since he is more like a combo style breaker gamer.
obviously there are videos where he does amazing combos and kill the bosses in a few seconds but also there are other speedrunners in the community that grind this game for the fastest time possible.

Yeah Max lvl runes & equipment, but if you leave the Valkyrie run until end game, then you're at that lvl anyway. Right. 🤔
@@eego3499 It matters a lot, you can do a ridiculous amount of build optimization in NG+, that's what allows you to do so much damage. It's a significantly harder fight in the regular game.

wondering why he doesnt use wrath of the frost ancient, fully upgraded the attack does an insane amount of damage... even if the cooldown is longer, but on hard difficulty it took a quarter or more of the valkyires lives if you hit the beam the whole time and also stuns them so they cant attack you during the attack
there’s also the legendary enchantment that increases the duration
This game would be perfect with a boss rush mode.
This is just fine but now you should do developers react to GBG, SmvR, aLexZz, Blair, and Sultan's combo against those Valkyries and their lv1 NG+ Valkyrie fights

So why not the frost laser? Can someone help me understand that?
The "Frost Laser" (nice name btw lol.) forces you into an animation where you can't move. When the Valks get lower in health they get much higher poise (glowing eyes) and can tank the laser. Ends up getting you hit or downed more often than not. Also, Hels Touch used with Borr's frozen shard has the highest damage stack for other runics and one of the lowest cooldown times.
@@beardofwar I've seen Wrath of the Frost Ancients one shot some of the Valks. The risk is worth the time save. This is speedrunning, not hitless.
@@BaldorfBreakdowns This is on GMGOW on standard New Game. Wrath of the Frost Ancients does not one shot. Not even close actually. This was an older run, so there are probably better strats now, but the laser just doesn't do that much damage on this difficulty.

ive manage to beat all of them besides sigrun the queen
Remember she has every attack from the others exceppt sommening enemies. Be very patient and wait her to Attack or multiple attacks until you See an opening and don't Panic or you've already lost, depending on what difficulty your playing. Runic attacks can cancel her attacks but sometimes they don't so be still on you guard when performing one.
Fun watch. But that bit about the last portion of the health bar was lame.

Maxed out Zeus armor and some specific perfect enchantments, runic attacks and combos can kill sigrun in less than 20 seconds, on gmgow. Done it myself
They should’ve reacted to Gamebreakergod dude beat sigrun in 38 seconds with the Zeus armor
Kara should have been called “flunky” and Katy should have been called “noobie.”
Traveling between realms shouldn't be counted toward time just fighting the Valkyries

Wow this commentary makes me realuze how scummy the design of the valkyries was on purpose. Hidden bar that makes them not get staggered, gaining extra defense as they lose health making the health bar deceiving. Even dark souls isnt that scummy with its bosses
