So glad you and this channel exists.... I'm so sick of the typical 55+ year old divorcee Corvette owner archetype who thinks it's a sin to make any kind of modification to a Corvette. I'm very excited to see everything you have in store for us!!
Couple of things, I’d add a fuel pressure switch if/when the fuel pump fails you won’t blow your engine up. Be easy on it too if you’re running 14 pounds on a SBE SBC
@@BeckersGarageyou’re correct, that’s for a nitrous application. As you know if fuel fails it’ll run straight nitrous and blow up. If you lose fuel with a turbo it’ll just stall.
Super excited to see this build! I have a 86 vette myself and also live in PHX. Also I think the first thing to go out will be the trans, I think anything past 400hp will start melting a 700r4.
Turbo charging and budget build or cheap boost should never be in the same sentence. I have not installed a turbo myself, but I am working on it. The first thing I learned is that it is very expensive. Like 4000 to 5000 dollar range and that's if you can weld and modify whatever tubing you need to. 200 dollar ebay turbo, yeah sounds cheap, but now you need a wastegate, BOV, v- bands, intercooler, and the most expensive part regardless if you do blow thru or EFI is fuel management. Also, you really need to be running some stainless one piece valves and adding some ring gap. Better yet forged pistons, but even besides that. All kinds of random problems can come up, like moving the radiator, or relocating the alternator. It will most likely add up very fast, But anyway good video sharing your experience on your build.
Gt45, 69mm with 1.05 exhaust. Good turbo, I have used them many times. Should be good for 500ish tire. I have used the Holley and the Fitech, go Holley. They now make a termi x TBI also instead of the Sniper. Great build, subscribed.
i keep rewatching all the videos you have on you’re progress, sadly like 5 videos in all :( still so excited for this build to be complete this gave me the motivation to tear mine down
it’s wild that there’s almost no up to date (fab work, rebuilds, modification/tutorial) content being uploaded i wish there was at least a lick of creativity when it comes to making these cars any different from all the other ones that exist. that’s why i think this project is so cool dude definitely inspiring, i just wish i had the knowledge you have about this shit lol corvette forums never do much for me… pls keep it up though, anything done to the car would be interesting because of the lack of it being around
@@MrGreenPandaz There are so many hidden hours of doing and redoing the fab work, you're 100% right. All the time I spend doing these little things is off camera but I actually planned on going over it on this week's video. There's just sooo much to go over and I've definitely made some mistakes. After this video is done, I'll definitely get another SBC build and go over everything step-by-step. It's 2am here and I'm working on it as we speak🥱

Following. I have an 87 I would not mind to run 8-10lbs of boost. Do you know with those pipes if you can close the hood? I also assume you need to delete the A/C compressor?
I've been working on it the past week. With the pipes you can, just might have to reroute stuff. This particular turbo won't fit under the hood😔 ac delete is not necessary but makes it easier
@@BeckersGarage finger crossed bro! I just bought 91 with zf 6 speed and 25000 mileage on it and engine blown in first week! Didn’t give me chance to make videos even! Now new parts are not available to rebuild the engine... sad
@@BeckersGarage i assume if yours is 84 you got cast iron block which is more reliable than mine (aluminum head on iron block! Wtf) so let’s do some collab later or Live . Add me on insta
@@BeckersGarage your 86 is identical to mine, paint job included. Eventually i plan to run twin GM-8 turbos. One of my concerns are how much boost can I safely and reliably make with aluminum heads
The problem with the TPI engines is anything past 8psi and the piston rings will lift off the ring lands. It was a design thing. I recommend learning any pit falls of the 5.7 TPI before throwing tons of boost at it. I'm looking to go 10-12psi on stock internals. Can can easily make 400to the wheels when tuned properly
I've had personal experience with a high compression engine failing with just moderate boost... but if it's forged you'd probably have better luck than me... I'd say SEND IT😁
That in itself should not be a problem. There are many other factors on top of the SCR, such as valve events, Dynamic Compression, timing, Stat temp, plugs, piston type, heads, octane, intended boost, intercooler, etc, etc, etc, that as a combined whole will determine this. And a very important factor is the Engine management system, (the computer) & how it is tuned. Another interesting fact, is Carbs & TBI's cool the intake charge, making denser air & countering detonation Just food for thought, the LT1 has a 10.5:1 SCR, which really is only moderate compression, & they are boosted all of the time without issues. The LS engines with 11:1 & get boosted. On a side note, in fact there are many high compression engines also being boosted, & I'm talking 12:1 SCR plus & 15 psi plus. Don't get me wrong, these are high quality blocks with high quality components. Regardless, most don't believe this is possible, so ill even say to look it up. This is a very misunderstood subject, & rightfully so, because this whole fear of compression & boost, or that an engine has to have real low compression to be boosted, comes from a time when there were so many limitations with everything involved. However things have come a long way. There have been many advancements. I also have a C4, a 91 Coupe, with a Dart SBC Block, 384 Stroker, forged, with a 10.8:1 SCR, & also twin turbos, on 93 Octane. And with the combination of components, tuning, etc it's good for 745HP / 830TQ on only 10 PSI boost. Barely breaking a sweat. And if I want to get silly I turn up the boost & hit the water methanol. Believe it or not, that moderate to higher compression counters that "lag" , & builds up that off the line low end. Not to mention makes less work & reliance on the turbos thru the mid to high end RPM range. Regardless, you shouldn't have any issues boosting your engine, especially if you are only planning for lower boost, like around 7 PSI or so. Which will make a considerable difference. I don't know your whole set up, but it sounds like you have a decent engine to start with, and depending on how well your complete set up is, you should have no issues pushing even more boost.
Perfect i have the same set up so I’ll be following this build for sure ! O question also i have a old 91 Chevy truck that has a 5 speed on it do you think this would fit together 🤔 has any one tried?
