I remember a friend had a Ford Taurus (regular not SHO) back in the early 90s that had all digital gauges. Always wondered why it never caught on until the last couple yrs. The technology has been there for 30 years and yet it is only becoming commonplace now. Definitely not due to cost, so not sure what else held it back.

@@glennso47 Why then to waste time stopping at this TH-cam to make a comment? The C4 Corvette has an incredible history. Especially regarding it's birth. One of the most amazing stories in the history of automobiles in general, and nose to nose with the history of the C1 generation. If you want to waste anymore time at Corvette TH-cams, look at some of the Tubes regarding the ZR1 Corvette. It's, in my opinion, and the opinion of automobile professionals of all types, including those in the literature, book, automotive news, and magazine businesses, that the ZR1 is nothing short of one of the most astounding sports cars ever produced in America, and competes with Supercars from all over the world. In my opinion, the Flagship of the entire Corvette Fleet.
The Corvette without argument is a special automobile in the history of automobiles, especially regarding it's mystique. No other car in the Auto Business get's so much attention. And deservedly so. It's a phenomenon really. I didn't realize it till I bought one myself. I wish I could tell you the story and share the awesome history and story with you. There is a TH-cam here somewhere about the history of the C4. A pretty good one. But not the whole story. Being a Corvette owner allows you membership into a very special brotherhood, and respectable member of the automobile society. To give you an idea, The Corvette gathering in Carlisle, PA, is the largest Corvette only car show in the world, one of the largest car shows, in general, in the country, featuring thousands of Corvettes, and 10's of thousands of fans. The numbers and reviews and stories don't lie. I don't believe you're wasting any time at all. Spend just a little time with these Corvette TH-cams, visit some facebook pages, or online magazine articles, now and then, and you may just change your mind about things. There's a great review for the 1985 Corvette from MOTOR Trend around here somewhere that does a great job and has fantastic things to say about the car.
I wish I could let you drive my pretty bright red '85, all original, not all severely changed and modified, performance wise, as the one shown here. So you could experience somewhat something similar as if you were testing one out in 1985 at a dealer. So you could get the sense of it, the Feel of it. I love being a passenger in my car. Which due to unfortunate disability, I most often am. NObody who drives my car, leaves it without screaming Yaaahooooo!!!!! NObody leaves it feeling that their experience was a "waste of time". I wish for you to enjoy your ride. May you drive, in peace, comfort, and happiness.

1990-91 were the best years in my opinion. The l98 had the "highest" number for a base model with 350 pounds of torque and 250 horse. Plenty for a casual drive with some extra kick. I got 19 inch 275 wide tires on my 1990 and makes it little quicker off the line, a lot less spin than normal. Great cars for an introduction to a sports car its very forgiving and quite easy to drive. And once youre ready to move up you could easily just upgrade the engine and have an even better car than before. Ive seen videos of built c4s absolutely dusting newer cars. Its a shame people over look these cars/engines there could be real monsters out there

...which means you can drive ANY manual. Props to you. I learned stick on a 1975 Ford Mustang II. Yes, I know.... when I tried out the performance model Pontiac Solstice about 10 years ago, I couldn't stop spinning out from a stop. My '05 Wrangler 4.0 is a stick, however, and I do double clutch and heel-toe on that and, when I had it, did so on my '95 Celica GT.
