Personally I think this episode was showing were Ben gets his stubbornness from, and its Grandpa. Both wanted to do what they wanted, and they weren't going to move an inch on that. I could see Ben as an old man trying to get his grand kids to go to a sumo slammer showing, and them not wanting too.
Thinking back, I guess they did use Wildmutt a surprising amount of times, odd choice out of all of them. I wonder if it was about what Ben would choose, like Four Arms, or if the animators just likes using the Furball.
One thing I don't like about grandpa Max is how he tries to make an effort but in the wrong way. He takes the kids to places he enjoys, feeds them bugs and other shit that he likes and then they don't wanna hang out with him. He rarely ever tries asking the kids where they want to go, ask about some activites they want to do. Does he really fuckin think "Oh, snap. Giant ball of yarn and museum of used spoons. The kids are going to lovet this."

Pretty much every episode and how many rare occasions does he ever consider to go or do what Gwen and Ben want to do? Very very rarely if at all. There's definitely quite a few cracks in your argument. Just to name a few...Max is the adult. It's his RV, not Ben or Gwen's. And the vacation is a privilege, not a right. He's the one in charge. Obviously, he's allowed to make the decisions on where they go. Add to that, Ben is in fact a brat like 95% of the time. He should behave better (and I mean in general, not only when the situation calls for it), if he wants to go somewhere specific. He's not obligated to listen to Ben's whining. This is the same thing most actual parents would say if you made a big fuss about "I wanna go here, not there!" too btw.
Loved Calvin's "These are record breaking winds!" 😂 The satire is strong with these guys and I live for it. Blindwave should do their own Mystery Science Theater 3000 type of series. Just watch bad movies and comment the whole time.

Ben gets a lot of hate for doing basic kid things especially by Calvin. You guys love max a little too much. After the kind of foods he makes them eat, they deserve some prizes imo. I think the problem is Ben is way too obsessed with Sumo Slammer. Max just wanted to see a band that he liked that make concerts like, every 20 years or so, meanwhile Ben is constantly thinking about Sumo Slammer, he bought the cards, hell, he spent an entire episode inside the game. The whole point of ep 2 was to show that Ben has an unhealthy obsession with the game.

Allow me to play devil's advocate for Ben for a moment. As someone who has identified with Ben through most of my childhood, and been diagnosed with both ADHD and autism, I feel like he was unintentionally coded with both. This explains his severe need for/search of dopamine-boosting tasks (more commonly seen as a short attention span), his almost absurd refusal to change his opinion on things he personally finds important (stubbornness and rudeness), and his struggle to have lessons stick in his mind even after they're repeatedly taught to him. In the context of viewing Ben as being AuDHD, Sumo Slammers is one of his special interests. So you have a 10-year-old child, seemingly only excited to go to a city because it hosts a convention for one of his special interests. Of course he's going to be avoidant and frustrated with everything else, especially when he just got a new shiny thing from the convention. Now the new shiny thing is trashed, he's going to be upset and lash out at the person his mind interprets as responsible for not letting him get a new one of the shiny things that was just destroyed. AuDHD people already have enough of a hard time seeing things from perspectives that aren't our own, but the robo-weather attacks give him enough of a buffer to not focus on the issues to finally give something else a chance, and he ends up enjoying it. All-in-all a very common (well, to a degree) experience for AuDHD kids, especially if undiagnosed and/or unmedicated. Obviously this is a kids show from the mid-late 00s, so the chances that they were intentionally coding him this way, especially because he's the titular character in an action cartoon for "boys" (I say in quotation marks because I came out as trans-fem but anyway). Idk I just love this episode and get tired of people trashing one of my favourite characters haha
It would be cool if he was canonically AuDHD. More unique main characters! :D Plus, it would justify why people like Gwen see him as someone, as what Gwen would say, who's parents dropped them as a baby XD

Don't think they hate him just find him annoying sometimes and plus I know Ben is based of real life kids whom if we met in real life we would all find annoying. But with age comes wisdom as we see Ben mature in the future series
I saw a promo for this episode when I saw the Camp Fear one for the first time. Presented better than how it turned out. Though I will say that defeating a weather monster by playing guitar while riding it is probably going in Ben's the top 10 moments for this Summer.
This was a pretty great episode. Don't remember it at all. Wonder if that monster was based somewhat on Chaos. The end seemed like a nod to Sonic snowboarding in SA1
I like ben being an a**hole There were already too many shows displaying a role model kid. In Ben 10 they go a different route to teach them lessons. Instead of showing kids how a perfect example should be, it's more like, let's rub their flaws on their face and show them how this affects the people around them. If they're self aware enough to relate, maybe they'll change their ways
Actually it pretty realistic to have that much salt just sitting around in chicago, it is home to Morton's salt which is one of the biggest salt producers in America. Plus in Chicago you never know when its going to snow
This episode has my favorite one time villain in SAM as he is super cool and reminds me of HAL I love this episode too because it has no significance at all and while Max and Ben bicker they at least have their reasons also shocked you missed Shaw in this episode as he made a brief cameo fishing on a lake

I really enjoyed this episode SAM is dope villain & all his monster designs are incredible. Four arms playing the guitar & Ben surfing on one is so freaking awesome. The only thing that taints this episode for me is how much of a jerk Ben is too Max

Ben and Gwen are *cousins* and not twins. They were not born on the same day. This is shown in an earlier episode where Gwen has her birthday, and it is not Bens birthday. I think I'm canon we don't actually know when Ben's birthday is, just that it's not in the summer. Gwen is either a couple months older or younger than Ben depending on when his birthday is.

Yeah I’m sure of it now that they won’t really start liking Ben’s character until Alien Force. Which I hope is soon because I really want them to like his character, but I can definitely see how it’s difficult to do so when Ben has character development in one episode and then it’s gone in the next which I have to admit does happen a lot, but not so much in Alien Force.

I'm sorry that your parents where such parental authoritarians that you think kids should only enjoy what they like do what they want, and not be able to act or do anything they want. If he wants to not go to a thing he doesn't like that makes him wrong? Max was in the wrong in this episode. Since the beginning of the trip they only went where he wanted to go and he never considers the kids at all. He shouldn’t have take them with him if he only wanted to visit places he enjoyed. The trip should be bonding with Gwen and Ben but it’s not really bonding when you don’t even consider their likings, interests and actually make them choose places to visit. That’s not bonding, that’s you forcing your interest on your grandkids. Ben had a right to want to go where he liked. Museum, giant ball of yarn, the aunt, the underwater resort, Mount Rushmore and all the other places where picked by Max based on what he wanted to see and where he wanted to go. It’s not being spoiled, to actually want to go to a place you like during your summer vacation

@@axelnilsson5124 I think it’s a fan favorite because this is another episode of Ben growing as a character, the heart to heart family moment at the end, and the badassery that is Ben Tennyson shredding on his guitar while asking the machine “Does it feel like your heads gonna explode?” then proceeding to snowboard down its meshed body all in human form 🔥
I, I can't believe that I never seen this episode before and I've been watching this show for years.
Allow me to play devil's advocate for Ben for a moment.
As someone who has identified with Ben through most of my childhood, and been diagnosed with both ADHD and autism, I feel like he was unintentionally coded with both. This explains his severe need for/search of dopamine-boosting tasks (more commonly seen as a short attention span), his almost absurd refusal to change his opinion on things he personally finds important (stubbornness and rudeness), and his struggle to have lessons stick in his mind even after they're repeatedly taught to him. In the context of viewing Ben as being AuDHD, Sumo Slammers is one of his special interests.
So you have a 10-year-old child, seemingly only excited to go to a city because it hosts a convention for one of his special interests. Of course he's going to be avoidant and frustrated with everything else, especially when he just got a new shiny thing from the convention. Now the new shiny thing is trashed, he's going to be upset and lash out at the person his mind interprets as responsible for not letting him get a new one of the shiny things that was just destroyed. AuDHD people already have enough of a hard time seeing things from perspectives that aren't our own, but the robo-weather attacks give him enough of a buffer to not focus on the issues to finally give something else a chance, and he ends up enjoying it.
All-in-all a very common (well, to a degree) experience for AuDHD kids, especially if undiagnosed and/or unmedicated.
Obviously this is a kids show from the mid-late 00s, so the chances that they were intentionally coding him this way, especially because he's the titular character in an action cartoon for "boys" (I say in quotation marks because I came out as trans-fem but anyway). Idk I just love this episode and get tired of people trashing one of my favourite characters haha
It would be cool if he was canonically AuDHD. More unique main characters! :D
Plus, it would justify why people like Gwen see him as someone, as what Gwen would say, who's parents dropped them as a baby XD

I feel like I'd be willing to roll with that interpretation had later Ben 10 series not portray his jerkishness as ego issues. Like I dunno, maybe I'm just letting future series knowledge cloud my views on this interpretation.

Not to play devil's advocate but an argument can be said how surface level considerate max is, for example how many times do we go where max wants to go? Pretty much every episode and how many rare occasions does he ever consider to go or do what Gwen and Ben want to do? Very very rarely if at all. I get not liking the bratty moments of Ben and Gwen but I feel them and many others internationally or not through bias ignore Max's faults and purely focus on Ben or Gwen to apply criticism.

Lol I don't think that they truly hate him but they do have a bias towards Max.
Don't think they hate him just find him annoying sometimes and plus I know Ben is based of real life kids whom if we met in real life we would all find annoying. But with age comes wisdom as we see Ben mature in the future series

I saw a promo for this episode when I saw the Camp Fear one for the first time. Presented better than how it turned out. Though I will say that defeating a weather monster by playing guitar while riding it is probably going in Ben's the top 10 moments for this Summer.

There were already too many shows displaying a role model kid. In Ben 10 they go a different route to teach them lessons. Instead of showing kids how a perfect example should be, it's more like, let's rub their flaws on their face and show them how this affects the people around them. If they're self aware enough to relate, maybe they'll change their ways

Actually it pretty realistic to have that much salt just sitting around in chicago, it is home to Morton's salt which is one of the biggest salt producers in America. Plus in Chicago you never know when its going to snow

Ben and Gwen are *cousins* and not twins. They were not born on the same day. This is shown in an earlier episode where Gwen has her birthday, and it is not Bens birthday. I think I'm canon we don't actually know when Ben's birthday is, just that it's not in the summer. Gwen is either a couple months older or younger than Ben depending on when his birthday is.

Yeah I’m sure of it now that they won’t really start liking Ben’s character until Alien Force. Which I hope is soon because I really want them to like his character, but I can definitely see how it’s difficult to do so when Ben has character development in one episode and then it’s gone in the next which I have to admit does happen a lot, but not so much in Alien Force.

Ishmael, Ahab, The Third Child, Eli, Ocelot, Kaz, Skull Face, Quiet, Huey, any member of the Parasite Unit, literally every semi-notable character who isn't named Chico, Paz, or Code Talker will be gunning for the Upgrade Token, and all of them would be a terrifying force to reckon with IRL.
I would recommend watching transformers at some point either Transformers Animated or Transformers Prime each really good transformer adaptaions

I'm sorry that your parents where such parental authoritarians that you think kids should only enjoy what they like do what they want, and not be able to act or do anything they want. For example why does Ben have to like the concert and the band that max does? Does he not have the right to like and dislike things? If he wants to not go to a thing he doesn't like that makes him wrong? So if max wants to have a good time with his grandchildren and have them enjoy it too shouldn't he take into consideration what they want to eat or do or go? Max was in the wrong in this episode. Since the beginning of the trip they only went where he wanted to go and he never considers the kids at all. He shouldn’t have take them with him if he only wanted to visit places he enjoyed. The trip should be bonding with Gwen and Ben but it’s not really bonding when you don’t even consider their likings, interests and actually make them choose places to visit. That’s not bonding, that’s you forcing your interest on your grandkids. Ben had a right to want to go where he liked. Museum, giant ball of yarn, the aunt, the underwater resort, Mount Rushmore and all the other places where picked by Max based on what he wanted to see and where he wanted to go. It’s not being spoiled, to actually want to go to a place you like during your summer vacation
