in my opinion, Rika Usami is a legend!. She is an excellent Karateka of our time. She has a very good understanding of various techniques in Karate and would soon be an authority in this ancient martial art!
I want to know ,here this punch described is only used for kata(that snap) or that should be used also in fighting?i thought that in fight power must come all the way from the back
What is this elbow snap she talks about? Elbow should never ever go in locked position and she must know that. So is this elbow snap straigtening the arm (hit) but not so far that elbow is locked (which destroyes the elbow if you do alot of locked punching if someone doesnt know that). And why is she not saying that elbow should never be locked, thats very important thing if you are going to do a lot of punching? I think this translarot is misunderstanding something, Im positive Rika understands that elbow cant go straight. Also this dont tight/flex your pectoral mucle. Pectus major is the strongest muscle to hit, then comes the triceps breachii and finally fron deltoid... Weird to say at least. Still I think she doesnt translate this right.
@@markracadio5207 Hit with stright arm 15 years and you got your proof. If you are too lazy to read the physiology of the elbow then you shouldnt practise any martial arts at all. That is just a physical fact proved so many times it doesnt even make sense to talk about this.
@@markracadio5207 I dont know. I live in modern western country but Japan is too like that. I told about this one Japanese Dan youtuber and he didnt understood this so I was amused. I learnt this first time in sports massage school when we studied anathomy. I have friend in physitoherapy and osteopathy and they fully undertand it. its not rocket science. If you understand the structure (bones) of upper arm and lower arm and what happens when you get full extension then you understand it, when this motion is repeated 1000 or 10000 times fast there is simply no way to prevent the joint destruction. I have noticed that many senseis lack the knowledge of basic anathomy (it isnt taught in karate at least where I practise but my head sensei understands this and he doesnt have any sports related degree). It is very amuzing to me that so many sensei and people usual dont undertand this but then I realize it isnt taught in normal school, college or university except medical school. They dont fail to understand this if they are shown why it is this way, its really really simple anathomy, they just dont bother to inspect it or lack of knowledge this should be understood for everyones own healthy. the destructed bone will never ever heal that why its so important. You can hit to straight arm 4000 times, nothing, 6000 times, nothing, 8000 and you feels there is some pain.. well its too late, its broken and nothing on earth will fix it. You should not be scared about it, there are much worse conditions than destructed elbow joint and if you live long enough you will face much worse conditions most likely. There are street violence, wars etc, so dont be scared and destroy your albow with a smile in your face, I wont since I bothered to study this simple thing =)
She's demonstrating a kata, which is fundamentally different from fighting (zero resistance). There are countless elderly people practicing Karate around the world that perform similar straight punches on a routine basis. In other words, if you're hurting yourself, you're probably doing it wrong.
