  • Colli Euganei stand out unexpectedly in the heart of the Po Valley, close to Venice, with their unmistakable conical volumes. 81 hills of volcanic origin, created over 40 million years ago. The landscape charm goes with a surprising richness of cultural heritage: picturesque medieval villages, castles, Venetian villas, and abbeys, all set among vineyards and olive groves.
And, in the Colli Euganei, you can practice many sports activities: from trekking on the several paths you find there, to mountain biking and much more.
So, which are the main attractions if you visit Colli Euganei?
    CATAJO CASTLE
The building appears majestic, with a long entrance avenue that leads to the Courtyard of the Giants. This space was used by the Obizzi family for theatrical performances, tournaments and naumachie (re-enactments of naval battles), given that the lower part of the courtyard could be filled with water. Among the various fountains of the villa, the most spectacular is the Elephant Fountain, located inside a cave dug into the rock embellished with a sculpture depicting the animal, an emblematic work of the exotic tastes of the ancient owners.
    GARDEN OF VILLA BARBARIGO
The Garden of Villa Barbarigo has around 400 years of history and allegorically teaches a positive message: in life there are difficulties, but there is always a solution. Perhaps, this is why there is also a labyrinth, probably the oldest of its kind in the world, with walls up to 5 meters high.
    VILLA DEI VESCOVI
The fascinating Villa dei Vescovi is located in Luvigliano, in the municipality of Torreglia, and is one of the most beautiful and elegant Renaissance-era villas in the entire Padua area.
Today the interior of the villa is furnished with period furniture and a series of panels illustrate to the visitor the various construction phases and the recent recovery of the building. The surrounding gardens and the porticoed loggias of the villa offer a relaxing immersion in the natural beauty of the Euganean Hills, while the rustic buildings near the entrance house the ticket office, the bookshop and a wine shop.
    ABBAZIA DI PRAGLIA
The Praglia Abbey is located in the territory of the municipality of Teolo, at the foot of Mount Lonzina, and is undoubtedly the most important and evocative place of spirituality in the Euganean Hills area. It is a very ancient Benedictine monastery, founded in the 11th century on the initiative of the noble Maltraversi family from Vicenza.
The Praglia Abbey, still inhabited today by Benedictine monks and a destination for constant religious tourism, also houses a National Monumental Library, which contains approximately 100,000 volumes. The room on the upper floor is embellished with 17 canvases by G.B. Zelotti, a painter of the late sixteenth century, inserted in the compartments of the wooden ceiling. Other paintings by the same artist, with biblical themes, are now found in the refectory.
    VILLA DRAGHI
Villa Draghi stands isolated on the slopes of Monte Alto, on a small hill west of the town of Montegrotto. The building, as we see it today, is an elegant building built between 1848 and 1850 by Pietro Scapin. In its place in the 17th century, there was the holiday home of the Venetian Alvise Lucadello, a wealthy accountant serving the government of the Serenissima. Subsequently passed into the ownership of the Donati family, the seventeenth-century building was then purchased by Scapin, who, finding the villa in a state of serious decay, decided to demolish it and rebuild it. The new building has largely been preserved and for over a century it has no longer been known by the name of the former owner, but is called Villa Draghi, with reference to the family that owned it from 1874 to 1965.
