    This is the absolute best way to change the oil in your rider mower or vehicle. I hate getting oil all over me and this is the ticket for staying clean.

    • @SeanDIY
      @SeanDIY  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm good with it on a riding mower, but not a fan in a car. I feel like draining it at the bottom would likely get more deposits and junk out. I could be wrong, but it makes me feel better at least.

      @0U8123MTA3 so far so good. I've used it 3 or 4 times. I think people that had problems most likely hooked up an air compressor at a high pressure.

    You extract the engine oil via the dip stick tube, NOT the oil filler cap. You can't get to the bottom of the oil pan unless you go through the dip stick tube.

    • @SeanDIY
      @SeanDIY  ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. I don't believe you can get into the oil completely without going down the dipstick tube. I wouldn't do that too often because I believe draining it at the bottom will get out more gunk.

      Not on every car, some vehicles leave some behind.

    I will not remove the ATF like this because when you do this kind of maintenance you should replace the filter as well, as you should clean the magnets that are at the bottom of the sump cover even if the cover is horizontal o vertical. I don't know this type of transmission, but my car is a 4x4 SUV so it's easy for me to drain and open the cover to replace the filter as well and the gasket from the cover.

    • @SeanDIY
      @SeanDIY  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'll definitely be removing the pan cover in the spring, but for now it was an extra fluid change which isn't terrible. You are correct, the drain and filter change is the better way. With this car you have no drain plug and you need to use gasket maker as they don't sell a pre-made gasket which makes me nervous.

    How did you clean the fluid extractor pump and related hoses once you were done removing the transmission fluid? Would you use the same cleaning process for engine oil?

    • @SeanDIY
      @SeanDIY  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I just dumped it out and didn't worry about getting it perfectly clean. The fluid never goes back into the vehicle.

    This video is 5 mo. old, but I am in the market for something similar and watched other videos. The lever on/off on the top for air comp probably needs to be in closed position when not using air compressor. At least other videos have pointed this out. So does this lever/switch make any difference when pumping manually?

    • @SeanDIY
      @SeanDIY  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven't touched it but I think that would be the case. I'd also say you probably don't want to put too much pressure into it as that could cause issues.

  • @danp7463

    I plan on buying one for my Acura. I've heard horror stories about changing ATF. Did your cars transmission start slipping after you changed it? The ATF in my Acura smells burnt, but not that bad.

    • @SeanDIY
      @SeanDIY  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have never changed the transmission fluid and you have a lot of mileage, it may cause issues. Oftentimes, the lack of changing the fluid damages the transmission, but the grit in the dirty fluid keeps it going. When you change out to new clean fluid, you may have problems because the new fluid doesn't have the grit. It's a catch 22, because you should change it a lot, but if you haven't, the damage done can be masked by the bad fluid. You have to know the risks and do what you think is best for your car under the circumstances. If the fluid is burnt, that isn't a good thing.

  • @BlackRam17
    @BlackRam17 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Make sure you change the filter in your transmission as well when you’re replacing the fluid.

      Just pull the hose out of the dipstick hole when you have extracted the amount of oil you want removed.

    • @SeanDIY
      @SeanDIY  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Absolutely. Once you lift it out of the fluid, it sucks air and you are done. Just remember to check the level to be sure you took out the right amount.

      @specialks1953 that makes sense. I've found that gas is terrible on most plastics, so I can see that happening, but I wouldn't have thought of it either. Maybe reach out to them and see if they give you a discount on another one or maybe they will send you one.
