I was wondering if her announcement on her exit had something to do with Danny's case 😬 What she did, doesn't sit right with me. I'd love to think maybe she woke up and realized that pushing for his victims to stay silent, was wrong
That could be of course this goes back atleast five years from her wanting out to her going through that hell to get out so maybe it was even before that case was in the media
Yeah I hope so, I am glad for this channel giving a this take, cult members are complicated, and coming out of it takes a lot. You can’t think clearly when you’re in it, so it’s hard to make objective judgments.
Thanks for this. It’s because of Beck’s mixed messages regarding Scientology as well as his outside/inside persona within pop culture that reenforced an assumption I’d had that celebrities have a different Scientology experience than non-celebrities have. I hadn’t read or heard the quote, “I am a Scientologist” from Beck before or I’d forgotten it because he’d said enough to distance himself from it.
It's strange that they'd "investigate the hell" out of a report of child abuse, and it's potentially a child whose being asked to lead that audit and solve the situation for the predator. Imagine claiming to bring justice to a situation of child abuse while actively abusing a child to do so. Doesn't really seem like the best interests of the children are being factored in, even if they're conducting investigations. Kinda like how HR isn't really about protecting workers
The prosecution should make a deal with Scientology. Imagine what would happen to Scientology if their members knew that all those audits might be used against them.
Thanks for another awesome video. I concur that it takes someone a LONG time to actually exit "officially". From my own experience, people spend AGES operating UTR because of the dire consequences of leaving (UTR = under the radar - i.e. avoiding their org at all costs or only going to events to "save face" while actually being completely disaffected with the church)................ In my own case, and when I look back on it now, my exit journey started about 4 years prior to finally publicly departing Scientology. In that time, I continued to donate, help, attend events - and even joined church staff in an attempt to "fix the mess from the inside"! All this time I was completely disaffected and constantly noticing MAJOR issues that I couldn't ignore. I spent those years in a state of severe cognitive dissonance and growing discomfort - but I dared not voice those thoughts out loud for fear of the consequences. It took enormous courage and having to reach the "point of no return" for me to finally come out and speak publicly against the church - and of course, everything I previously dreaded happening to me came to fruition (losing friends, family, business opportunities and being publicly demeaned, lied about and attacked by the church and their idiotic despots for months/years afterwards).
So interesting as always, thank you ! You have such a brilliant way of talking in and out and around the situation till every nuanced aspect has been covered. Hope to hear more from you soon. x
I remember watching her and Christopher Kennedy Masterson on an episode of MTV Cribs which featured her estate in NJ with a horse farm and her collection of older black Porsche’s and vintage cars. I didn’t know until years later that the Masterson Brothers were in Scientology when That 70’s Show ended. It was a huge disappointment to find that out as I enjoyed that show and it tarnished it for me. Ashton and Mila seem to still stay protective and close to Danny which is suspect. I remember Ashton and Demi were really into Kabbalah until a lot of illegal stuff was exposed. I feel like Topher Grace is the only one in that group wasn’t sketchy as Wilmer has a predilection for barely legal/underaged startlets, models etc. Also, what is the deal with John Travolta lately. He was on Hart to Heart and discussed to his son about Kelly’s death and Jett’s death and we all die. I thought he was a die hard Scientologist where you never really die?
I felt same dissspoint when I found they where scientologists and even more when Danny Mastersons sexual assaults came out I really can't enjoy the show in a same way anymore, makes me feel sick when I see his face. I was 19 in 1989 and visiting San Francisco where in front of this huge building was some sandwich boards outside inviting people in for information on something(can't remember the exact words) and a young woman outside approaching people. She started talking to me & a friend of mine. She got about 90 seconds into her script and I immediately knew this felt off. We declined and walked away. I had never heard of L Ron Hubbard or Scientology at that point. It wasn't until 30 years later when I was watching the series with Leah Remini that I remembered that 1989 encounter in San Francisco and I realized it was a recruiting ploy for Scientology. I've always been a very skeptical person even as a child so my weird radar went off that day in 89. Thank goodness.

I feel like alot of actors who are part of Scientology don't really practice it, just they use it as a step in there career. However if she new that Danny had raped these women and tried to keep them from talking, she should be held responsible as well, she can try and distance herself from this but she shouldn't be able to get away with it.
Regardless of Scientology, we should start prosecuting people who have tried to silence child & adult SA victims. Anyone who would bully a victim, especially a child, into keeping silent should be prosecuted & jailed just like people who assist armed robbers, murderers, etc. after the fact to cover up the crimes.
@@southbug27 ... AIDING & ABIDING is a Felony Crime. Anyone who knew and didn't report the abuse crimes is guilty of Aiding&Abiding that crime. Any who has evidence that doesn't turn it over is guilty of extra crimes.
I was a big fan of Laura’s in the OITNB days until that crazy Celebrity magazine interview mentioned here and her lying that it wasn’t in any way homophobic turned me off of her completely. In fact, it was my tweet which Leah answered saying Laura lied in talking about how Scientology isn’t homophobic! Anyway, Laura used to have two “besties” AKA Scientology handlers who were with her 24/7. Then as soon as she started dating her current husband they disappeared into thin air. That was in 2016 AKA five years ago so I do believe something happening around that time is what caused this initial impulse to start the process of leaving.
If Laura knows about Danny’s proclivities and can verify that COS was aware of them and covered them up I cannot help but wonder if she may not find herself facing Paul Haggis level fair game to intimidate and silence her.
@@thejjjs7786 I think Laura has reached a higher level of fame at this point and Scientology seems to be taking a different approach these days (realizing it’s almost over??) and not wanting more bad press?
Great video! I think your speculations are interesting and I wouldn't be suprised if they're true. It will be so interesting to see if Laura speaks on this someday.
Laura's role in the Orange is the New Black was reduced significantly for season 2. She didn't appear in most of the episodes that season. I believe I read somewhere it was due to Scientology. She was back as a main character in season 3 and the remaining. When Leah Remini went to Tom Cruise's wedding she ended up getting several reports written about her from her fellow scientologists regarding her "behavior". She ended up getting reprimanded by Scientology and was forced to go to Florida for a few months and had to spend day and night doing course work, couldn't spend time with her family, and whatever else as her punishment. That was one of the final straws for her to leave. I know Scientology is against homosexuality and I wonder if Laura was punished for taking on her role as Alex Vause who is a lesbian. I wonder if she received a similar punishment as Leah and that's why she had to be written out of most of Season 2 so she can do whatever Scientology forced her to do. I wonder if that was one of the final straw to Laura leaving. The timing matches as she advised she stopped practicing around 5 years ago. The filming of season 2 was only a couple years prior to her stopping. She was also pregnant with her first child around that time. I think she knew that she couldn't have her children be brought up as a scientologist and wanted to protect them. So I think a mixture of the treatment she received and wanted a better future for her children was the reason for leaving. I don't think her statement regarding not practicing scientology anymore had anything to do with her ex boyfriend's brother, Danny Masterson, and his alleged crimes.
@@sparkly21 nope she didn't have her first kid until 2017. The first season came out 2013 so while the first season was airing they were shooting second season. So it was a few years before being pregnant. Sorry

That or she knows that Danny is considering throwing scientology under the bus like Aaron said and she wants to distance herself from them before he does so. She could then say that she never really supported him but scientology made her act as though she did.

Laura publicly spoke about terminating a pregnancy just a couple of years ago due to medical complications. I've always wondered how that would have been handled within Scientology because I believe they have this thing about anything negative happening to you is your fault.

Since I was with my 3 other girlfriends that I grew up with, I went looking for them . Only to hear my BF yelling at them that they were “Crazy!” 😑🤣 we all left after that. I’m 61 now and I was intrigued about your exodus from them. Good 👍🏼 for you 😁 I actually do have faith. Bless you.
I believe it was the influence of hubby and children that influenced her leaving the cult. I think she found a sense of self with these life changes. I've watched several of her youtube videos and recent interviews and she talks alot about her children.
Scientologists have children all the time. It doesn’t them leave Scientology. Or perhaps I should say that someone already has to be mentally out of scientology in order for having kids to be what makes them REALLY leave. If you believe in Scientology you think it’s the most important and valuable thing in the world. Having children doesn’t change that. But I think she was already in that limbo area of no longer believing but not wanting to officially and publicly leave. If you were in that zone, could having kids be pushed her to officially and publicly leave? Perhaps. But it means that she was for all intents and purposes already out anyway.
I agree. Her first pregnancy is around the 5 years ago mark. I know Scientologists have kids all the time but she didn't grow up as one and the father wasn't one. I can see after everything she probably witnessed, especially with Danny Masterson, how she wouldn't want her kids raised in Scientology. Example- you get pregnant. All this happens at the same time with a close friend (Masterson) and you see the church helping him. Being newly pregnant and raised differently I'd run. The church isn't going to have influence in raising my kids. Of they taught my kids certain things are ok that I don't condine could I live with it? I'm sure her husband had influence too. Also, Catholics and Jews like tradition and ceremonies. Maybe she felt she needed to go to a faith that had milestones of some kind (like Catholic sacraments for example)? (Idk if scientology has these). On the other hand Beck is just a crazy fool thinking we don't remember he's always been a Scientologist.
The practice of not reporting crimes against others, children in particular, reminds me a lot of the way in which the Roman Catholic Church handled these crimes where their clergy was concerned, and I find it despicable. My question to you, Aaron, is if Scientology investigates these alleged crimes by their members and finds them to be true, are there any consequences, meaningful or otherwise, for the guilty? In the Catholic Church, the accused was simply sent to another parish where the abuse could continue.
Her decision to say she is not in Scientology may be to avoid (1) helping in the coverup, (2) being subject to government interrogation which will harm her or Scientology, (3) being a witness against DM, and or to protect her children or her income.
I love hearing your opinions on these celebrity's allegedly terrible things that they are accused of. I can't wait to see how this trial unfolds. I do feel sorry for his wife and children, who of course believe that he's innocent! Mmm!
I used to live a few blocks away from the celebrity center in Hollywood and I’d walk past it a lot. It really creeped me out to be honest. I’d see those guys circling around on bikes a lot. I’m assuming they were security of some kind.
Scientology, in some respects, might be even better in the "cover up" business than the Vatican. Catholics don’t have to sign forms releasing the Vatican from any wrongdoing... not yet anyway.
But unlike Scientology, The Catholic Church cult didn't hunt us down, harass, humiliate, condemn or attempt to either coerce us back or drive a wedge between us and our practicing Catholic friends and family. It's way beyond covering up crimes in Scientology, it's committing them.
@@mjdelaney1 you're right the catholic church has never committed crimes...or excommunicate someone. Or even raped snd pillaged anyone, oh wait, what did they call that The crusades, the Spanish Inquisition, the majority of the Holy Roman Empire and been ... less then prestine.

I am so glad I found your channel. I was always fascinated in Scientology to understand how someone can believe in that, especially when Leah started speaking up. But now with this trial I saw one your video and I subbed. Its interesting to me as a psychologist, so I can understand people born into it, its a pretty strong system of imposing beliefs. Celebrity coming into it, afterwards, I can understand only from PR activities. But I really really try to understand the thought process of a person going through those levels trying to overcome the levels. I guess its exciting not knowing what is waiting for you if you ''behave''. But aliens? Anyway, thank you for your work. I will go back and watch more of your content.
Great channel great content good work thank you for all that you do. Based on what you’ve shared Scientology leadership approves and allows abuse (e.g., by their leaders or others in position of some authority of their members) and want to control who when how and outcomes to keep the power control and money of leadership.
So sad how they “cover up and excuse the abuses of others”. It’s hard enough to be a victim, but to add Scientology to it has gotta make it even harder. Kinda reminds me of the Catholic Church. They take care of it, from within instead of gettin authorities involved. Even when they investigated, what is/was the punishment?
Thankfully Laura is out of this awful cult. I like Laura Prepon and her husband Ben Foster (I believe he never was a member, thankfully!) and I'm so glad that no matter what happened she is out of this RIDICULOUS and dangerous cult!
I think what Beck was really trying to say was that he was born into it and it was all he knew, but never felt he was a Scientologist. I'm sure for the longest time he was just trying to not be disconnected by his family and friends. And probably finally made the decision to make it known publically that he isn't a Scientologist. Also, having to find a way to say he isn't one publically but without getting straight up declared. Beck was definitely used as a selling tool at CC Int by the reges. Inflection and tone is often lost when reading a quote vs hearing them say it.
This really surprised me when I first read she left. I thought maybe she wasn’t entirely truthful, then I thought “Why would Scientology even let her say this?” That wouldn’t look good on the church period. I wonder if they are giving her a hard time for mentioning it.
Sounds like getting kicked out is a big fear of many members. I'm new here so may I ask why being ex communicated is so bad that people won't report crime?
Seems lots of these groups like to practice a sense of superiority over everyone else. I cringe when someone says l like you as if you should be grateful eeerrrgghh.
Money could be the reason she left too. Maybe her and her husband actor Ben Foster think that instead of giving the church most of their money they can set up their kids' college funds etc., etc. Because don't forget it's not cheap to be a Scientologist.
Thank you for bringing nuance to not only the crimes of the church, but honestly, moreso to the soft victims, like Laura, Leah, yourself, real, honest, people who for whatever reason were led down a path that they now see better of {ehem, could anyone honestly claim they've 0 experience on that one?} It's easy to see others in black and white, the monochrome of distance. Your content reminds me to grant the complexity I internally enjoy to my understanding of everyone else around me, you're a gateway to radical humanity, and I just wanted to say how much I appreciate anyone who makes us really stop and contemplate the true depth of every person we pass on the street, but more importantly those who live in the brevity & brashness of soundbites, flashbulbs, and instant karma that typifies even the most casual dalliance into public life in our brave new TikTok nation. Great perspective on this situation! Thanks for sharing! I agree, she’s working an angle to help her and her long time friend. It will be sad and horrible if he plays the victim card. The ONLY victims are those poor girls, who were assaulted by him. I hope justice is served.
I agree. Thank you for watching and commenting!
I’ll bet Miscavige has done more horrible things to women than Masterson ever did!
Hmmmmm

Just women? He’s an abusive little prick
If you have read his nieces book and seen the horrible things he subjected his own family to there is no doubt he is evil.

I was wondering if her announcement on her exit had something to do with Danny's case 😬 What she did, doesn't sit right with me. I'd love to think maybe she woke up and realized that pushing for his victims to stay silent, was wrong
I would like to think that as well.
That could be of course this goes back atleast five years from her wanting out to her going through that hell to get out so maybe it was even before that case was in the media
I would love to hear her open up....
Indeed. Thank you for watching and commenting!

The prosecution should make a deal with Scientology. Imagine what would happen to Scientology if their members knew that all those audits might be used against them.

@@GrowingUpInScientology didn't co$ get upset about her role in Orange is New Black? Thought I heard something like that.
Hope to hear more from you soon. x
Thank you so much!
I don’t think we need anything from her but to be free . I’m proud of her 🎉
I appreciate that you are making a point to clarify your meaning of the word ‘drama’ and that you’re not using it in the facetious vernacular sense.
I have difficulties trusting the makers of the show too when they have hired more than one scientologist. Really sad. What I know about him I have no problems with Topher Crace either. I really hope that Laura really is out and wish her the best even if it's disgusting she and others from the show tried to protect Danny.
I thought that being in Scientology was part of how one got roles. That’s probably why people like Beck are being cagey about their involvement levels. I was so sad and disappointed after learning what Danny did too. I enjoyed his character so much.
@@louhortonsculpture Yeah I thought the same. Either they wanted to ind a new "religion" or advance their career through networking."All the cool kids are doing it" kinda thing.

Practicing Scientology sounds an awful lot like doing homework, but as an adult and to no good purpose.
I feel like alot of actors who are part of Scientology don't really practice it, just they use it as a step in there career. However if she new that Danny had raped these women and tried to keep them from talking, she should be held responsible as well, she can try and distance herself from this but she shouldn't be able to get away with it.
I agree. Thank you for watching and commenting.
Unfortunately sexual assaults & other sexual crimes is Common place in Hollywood spheres.
@@brianmccann666 To true.
I appreciate you educating us about Scientology. It is so complex.
They don’t seem to do that to the celebs. To much drama, press, cameras.
Laura seems like too much of a badass to let anybody intimidate or silence her. Just my impression of her.
@@pattytracey3131 but Paul Haggis is a celebrity.
The fact that so many people leave scientology says something I just stay away from all organized religions but some are ways worse than others
Creepy to know the mass rapes were going on during the filming time. Danny had the world at his feet but decided to hurt people instead.
Thank you.
Didn't she have relationship with her OITNB co-star Taylor Schilling?
I thought she was out because of her pregnancy
Being anti-homosexuality is one of the few things that Scientology has gotten right!
Laura wasn’t in season 2 that much of OITNB because she was pregnant at the time.
@@sparkly21 nope she didn't have her first kid until 2017. The first season came out 2013 so while the first season was airing they were shooting second season. So it was a few years before being pregnant. Sorry

Laura publicly spoke about terminating a pregnancy just a couple of years ago due to medical complications. I've always wondered how that would have been handled within Scientology because I believe they have this thing about anything negative happening to you is your fault.
They're known to force certain members to get terminations, they don't really GAF about that.
They force them to have abortions.

@@GrowingUpInScientology I have to say, I was approached when I was in my early 20, by the Scientology group here in SF, but I’m the daughter of a pastor and a Seventh Day Adventist at that, and I had taken phycology so, I ended Up arguing with them and walking out.
Also I think her husband was in. If not Ben Foster is at least not bothered enough to have his own personal ties to it. So I doubt he helped much.
Great analysis! You should do another live Q&A at some point. Those were fun.
👍🏻👍🏻
I love listening to you...straighr to the point and no BS. Thank youu!!!

Wow now every time I see a celebrity I will ask myself if they are part of Scientology and if that’s how they became part of Hollywood.
Congrats on becoming a realtor! Super good, truth telling video... as always.
I can never watch that 70s show again, Topher really gotten the last laugh amongst the cast
Her decision to say she is not in Scientology may be to avoid (1) helping in the coverup, (2) being subject to government interrogation which will harm her or Scientology, (3) being a witness against DM, and or to protect her children or her income.
Still love your channel. You always make it easy to grasp.

As a former Catholic, the way Scientology sounds the the Vatican when it comes to covering up crimes.

Beck must think we are all dumb. I’m glad you called that out.
Just like in a divorce - "Irreconcilable differences."
Just want to say Aaron that I love your channel...
Thank you so much!
Several of his bandmates left the group because of Beck's wacky scientology ways.
You could certainly be correct about that
Crazy story
This really surprised me when I first read she left. I thought maybe she wasn’t entirely truthful, then I thought “Why would Scientology even let her say this?” That wouldn’t look good on the church period. I wonder if they are giving her a hard time for mentioning it.
I'm sure disconnection is well under way. Thank you for watching and commenting!

Laura is saying this because she has started her on line of dishes. I don’t and won’t buy or believe her.
I also won’t trust her until I see her on #mikerinder and Leah pod cast.
Good stuff. 👍
