To Say Nothing of the Dog is one of my all time favorite books! It got me hooked on Connie Willis whose book, The Road to Roswell, is also a really fun summer book. Then I branched out to Jodi Taylor’s time travel books- The Chronicles of St Mary’s which I also enjoy.

Hi Gina, I've been in a booktube drought recently but you're my third video today. My June events are June on the Range where i'll be starting a series by Rae Ann Thayne one of my two favorite contemporary romance authors. I'm also doing the Historical Fiction readathon. I'll be reading Gentian Hill by Elizabeth Goudge. A Glass of Blessings is going on my TBR. Robin Hobb and other expansive fantasy authors aren't for me. I like myth based or historical fantasy because the worlds are narrower in scope. Plus I learn something. I read four books in May. My two faves were Half Sick of Shadows a YA Arthurian fantasy and A Mother for his Twins a Harlequin Love Inspired romance. For May of the Moderns I gave DE Stevenson another try and four stared The English Air. Her Ceillas series is on my TBR.

I just bought A Glass of Blessings! I was looking for another Barbara Pym. I am happy to hear you loved it and will be picking it up soon. I picked up the "A Court of Thorns and Roses" series while at the beach a few weeks ago and I'm finishing up the second one now ("A Court of Mist and Fury"). They are so popular online. I do see why because they are so fast paced and interesting. Definitely not super serious reads haha. But as we all know, low brow, high brow, read what you like! I think I am going to take a break after this one and read some other books before I dive back into the series. I'm so glad summer is almost here and look forward to Camp Booktube as well.😀Hope you enjoy your week Gina!

I hope you enjoy To Say Nothing of the Dog! I need to reread it now I know more about Victorian literature. Cold Comfort Farm is great but quite difficult with the regional language, there's a lovely film adaptation too which helped me get it a bit more. That's a shame about Hobb, I do think she struggles a bit with second books, I've not read anything outside of elderlings.

I have added 6 R. Pilcher small paperback books to my collection of her bks. I have 16,19 ? now.😊 Also added 2 Mary Stewart bks. to my collection of hers. Have you ever read " Madam, Will You Talk?" or Rose Cottage? Had an Angela Thirlkell bk. Wild Strawberries umpteen yrs ago but somehow lost it. Re-bought last week. Will be buying more of hers. I am really enjoying older authors. I haven't been reading at all this past week because my sister died this past Monday, Memorial Day. Rather fast and unexpected as she was very healthy, active . A very aggressive cancer that took her in a month from the time she found a lump in her armpit. Her treatment was very strong chemo and radiation. Her husband and I think the chemo killed her. She never even took aspirin. I can't stop crying am always on the verge of tears and can't think, so spaced out. Trying to prepare for a surgery on June 14. Other major stuff also happening and I just want to hide in bed. I am the only one left in my family now. Kathy was my older sister and her birthday is this month. That is my 2nd sister to die in May. My younger sister actually died on my birthday10 yrs. ago.

Cold Comfort Farm is pure comedy but it’s really a parody of novels depicting harsh rural life so it’s purposely exaggerated and silly. It’s ridiculous but it’s definitely hard to understand with no context. I don’t know if that helps! Kate Beckinsale played Flora in a 1995 adaptation of the book, the cast is stellar and I really enjoy this film which you can totally watch without reading the book! ❤️❤️

May I recommend possible remedies for the Robin Hobb books you didn't like? I just finished reading two books by Jenny L. Howe: "The Make-Up Test," and "On the Plus Side." They're stand alones. Jenny's characters are 20-somethings plus-sized women who accept their bodies and expect those around them to respect them, too. Jenny admits in each introduction to being into "fat activism." Even if you can't personally relate to the characters' situations, you may find enjoyment in both or either one of these books. The writing is TERRIFIC. In "The Make-Up Test," the main character is deep into grad school and is horrified to learn that the guy who dumped her in undergraduate school has somehow followed her. How can she avoid him when he's in most of the same classes? In "On the Plus Side," the main character wins participation in a reality TV show that showcases people of size and serves to make-over their wardrobes and parts of their lives in order to help the contestants live their best lives. Unfortunately, the realities of Reality TV can get rather cluttered and frustrating, not to mention intrusive. These are fresh plots that I found fun to read. They're labeled as "romcoms," I think. But they're much better than that.
