Credit to Crofty cause I feel he handled that moment in Abu Dhabi perfectly. Feelings aside for whoever you support, was professional and commentated well.
Crofty sometimes struggles and gets a bit mixed up but for the big occasions he’s up there with the best. The last lap of Abu Dhabi is some of the greatest sports commentary I’ve ever heard
@@liamjames2956 Murray was great of course, his excitement was both natural & captivating...David Croft's shouting & hysteria is all performance & mostly unneccessary.
Great story teller, our Crofty. What separates him from Alex Jacques ...(I mean no disrespect to Alex) is that he never "over commentates" what people can already see on television. Crofty adds value to the vision and is a relaxed, relatable guy. There's something about that cool, calm and transparent approach he takes to the job that's actually SO evocative and works so much better than those who try way too hard to be a commentator. "Keep it simple" ... as he says!
Loved the part when Crofty spoke about James Vowels. By far the most insightful Team Principal they’ve had on the live comms during the races. Always interesting to listen to. He doesn’t try to play coy or keeps his cards close to his chest. He doesn’t sound smug like Horner, but instead he tries to provide information to engage the viewer. They should have him on every GP
It's very true what Crofty says about writing things out and remembering them. As an illustrator, it's the same with drawing. I can remember what I was thinking at what line and when I was putting certain colours or what I was listening to whilst making a piece. The physical act of writing things out really is a fabulous tool. That being said I don't miss hand writing 8 sides of A4 paper for my film studies exam at A level.
This podcast is great, really enjoying it, hope it stays for next year. Please do a Q&A with the rest of the Sky team as well. The unscripted open conversation and behind the scenes I think is excellent. Interesting hearing what Crofty thinks about the F1 rules and the idea about a separate sprint championship.
I've had a number of dreams over the years where I'm about to be on TV or radio had have literally no idea what to say. Totally blank and unable to speak. It gives me even more respect for commentators. It's a very difficult skill.
Always love Crofty interviews. As much as I love F1 and the summer break seems like forever, I understand drivers and teams are full of people who have families and friends and lives outside of the sport that also deserve their time. The 24 race thing IS a lot, even as a fan. I'd hate to see this massive cash grab ruin the beauty of the sport for a few extra dollars.
I'd like to know why he didn't say "it's lights out and away HE goes" when LH was alone at the restart. Really iconic image of the lone car on the grid.

Loved Crofty's ideas about sprint races and blue flags. Having sprint as a separate entity of its own would be amazing, and could be a fantastic opportunity for so many of the amazingly talented young drivers who might unfortunately never get to be in an F1 car otherwise. Side note: Misha Mansoor is a proper legend. Basicslly invented the whole 'djent' subgenre of progressive metal. Him and Crofty talking is a proper worlds colliding moment.
