  • Pool noodle pumpkins are a neat new way to add some weather proof faux gourds into your Halloween display or haunt. Now that I have made one, I know Im going to make a ton more for our haunt. Easy and inexpensive to boot! Also it looks like Dollar tree will have pool noodles year round! Im using white ones from their red white and green assortment for Christmas!
Here is the knife I used

Great minds think alike! I have a weird affinity to pool noodles & spray foam & buy both by the case! My pumpkins are a little different-I use 2 big plastic bowls from Dollar Tree, duct taped together & form my pool noodles over the resulting pumpkin shape. (I weighted some down with concrete so they wouldn't blow off the porch) I then added 3 coats of equal parts joint compound, glue & acrylic paint mixed together. Details can be etched on while set up but not dry. I sprayed with clear coat & was amazed to have a finish very similar to the store pumpkins. I used the long foam rollers from Dollar Tree to form a stem & coated it with my 3:1 mixture after gluing on the stem with hot glue. I used different sized bowls & pipe insulation foam to make smaller pumpkins. I top the pumpkins with a floral wreath of leaves, blooms, berries, pinecones & such or decoupage wordage or appropriate napkins .The virus has ended my craft shows but I expect these puppies to sell like hotcakes next year!

    • @StiltbeastStudios

most pool noodles dont dissolve with spray paint. They are urethane foam- thats pretty safe with spray paint. Expanded polystyrene foam and extruded polystyrene foam are botgh dissolved by the propellant in spray paint, mist it on and you will be ok.

You inspired me to try this! I’ve been making paper mache pumpkins forever and they’re just so time consuming! These were so much fun! I took shards of the noodle from cutting the individual spears to make the stem. Just have to paint. I also used the heat gun to seal each line all the way, just to keep the water out. Thank you so much for posting this, so much fun!

OMG! I love this idea!! Wondering if it would be better to use yellow noodles painted orange. That way you could do a shallow carve to get the effect of just carving the skin off of a real pumpkin to reveal the yellow layer underneath without going all the way through the pumpkin hull. Also if it got dinged up it would look more natural with the yellow underneath than the white.

Hey Allen, So glad to see you. Great TH-cam Wednesday. Again I never would have thought to use pool noddles to make a pumpkin. That’s why you are the master and I’m the student. Hope to see ya soon....

Genius……. Don’t need or want a pumpkin but gotta try this. Our annual Halloween bashes have been stopped due to COVID 2020.
Hopefully next year. You sir are an inspiration. I’m sure noodles are half price now that summer is over. Houston giving you love.

Thanks! Pool noodles seems to become scarce after Labor Day weekend so I would not hesitate if you're looking for them. Good luck with your future bashes!
