    39 years ago a friend gave us a gallon jug of honey. The kind of jug that has a small opening. We were very poor at the time and were just thrilled to have it! It was crystallized and my husband set it above the pilot light on our propane cookstove. We were sitting at the table eating dinner together, and we heard a "pop!" The glass jug had cracked. All that honey oozed down into the stove and then over on the floor beside the flue and down into the basement. It was a mess, yes, but we were heartbroken. I'm growing horehound this year and so am going to make some of this infused honey. Thank you!

As well as growing as much as i van, foregoing for when i can't or don't have at this time. I found some horehound today (I think white horehound) and I knew you’d have something lovely to say about how to prepare this as medicine! Thank you so much for all that you share. I am a sporadic herbal student and when I am struck by a plant I really appreciate the info that I can go down a rabbit hole with, and you are a go-to resource for me for sure. I appreciate you! My friend told me this is where root beer came from, too, which is so cool. Also heard she’s good for painful menstruation, and as a midwife and fertility specialist I am always seeking herbs that are friendly to the uterus. I’m so excited to grow my relationship to her. Thank you thank you thank you!

    Once it is strained and heated, do you store it in the fridge or is it shelf stable? Does heating the honey kill the good things that make raw honey so beneficial for you? Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us :-)

    • @sheisofthewoods
      @sheisofthewoods  6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Once it's been heated it is shelf stable as long as you keep it in a cool type covered you know not like directly above your oven or anything like that. No it does not get hot enough to kill off the beneficial properties of the honey you have to get up until like the 250 Fahrenheit degree range before it becomes pasteurized💕

      In my local beekeepers association meeting they said not to get honey above 140°.

    • @sheisofthewoods
      @sheisofthewoods  6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Yes that is the case if you're going to be holding it at that temp for the sake of pasteurization, but what a lot of people don't realize it's simply hitting a temperature does not create pasteurization it's the long time frame of holding it there. So bringing your honey up to 200 degrees and then shutting off the heat does not create pasteurization it is simply hot enough to kill off the yeast colonization that has occurred creating fermentation. But this is something entirely different than standard honey that has nothing infused in it for sure, if I was simply processing raw honey that had not been send out with water from a plant infused in it I would never bring it up to that temp💕

    Hi, hope you are doing well! I am making horehound infused honey today! My honey is raw and somewhat crystalized, and I spooned it over the plant material.. I was wondering if I were to keep in a warm place like near not on my wood stove or in my gas oven with just the pilot on ( that’s where a I make yogurt, raise bread and sometimes even help a chick hatch in an emergency l! 😂) would it infuse in less time, would it be okay...what are your thoughts on this.
    Much love

    • @sheisofthewoods
      @sheisofthewoods  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1
