@@tokyosblade Attack power doesn't matter against main bosses as they ALWAYS scale with you. However, I fought him again on New Game Plus and it became 10x harder. But I beat him. I'll tell you how: LEARN how to deflect ALL the time against him. Go in there willing to die but only for the goal of learning. First phase, no need for the Axe, just parry his Ashina Cross move. It is easy to predict as his torso has a "white sparky" shine RIGHT before he strikes you. Second phase is the hardest. Attack less, and deflect more. When he finishes his big combo, it will ALWAYS end in a flying thrust attack. Mikiri-counter that, and immediately Axe him follow up with few sword attacks. You might take a hit or two in the process, but this will make him repeat his combo. As long as you are deflecting, his posture will stay the same and you will have another chance to Axe him after you Mikiri. Rinse, focus, and repeat. Third phase, just run around until he does Lightning move, and then just jump, grab lightning, hit him with it. And start running again 😂 6 lightning strikes and his health will reach zero. If you don't have the patience for it, just play his third phase like second one and it works. Like I said, just practice Deflection timings first. Don't try to win, just focus on learning. Idk but i always drink from my red, green, and purple gourds to cheese genichiro by making him do a thrust attack and mikiri countering him like 10 times in 15 seconds.
oh i think you missed the red lump....it would've made your cheese a whole lot better...and, haha, the first Sekiro cheese tutorial i've watched to actually use an eel liver! Who uses those??
Does anyone know his attack power? I was grinding, got to 25 attack power. Foolishly thinking it was gonna be a breeze. 3 days later I finally decide to look for help. Edit: so this fight is a breeze with this strategy AND if your attack power is at 26. Buffs just make it that much easier
Don't know. Maybe they nerfed the Lazulite Axe since this video was made? Everything I used for gear and buffs is documented in the video and the notes.
Tom the fox in my opinion, run around in the 1st phase and bait the cross slash, mortal blade attack, then for the 2nd and 3rd phase, when he does the jump attack run at him then do a mortal blade, repeat until dead, works everytime
This is a cheese, not a hack or exploit. For a cheese to work you need to at least come close to matching the prerequisites. And, of course, practice makes better.
You need to be super-aggressive. Be the one who does the 'first attack' so you don't need to parry. Then attack some more. The 'strategy' if there is one, is to overwhelm the enemy at the cost of you taking some damage - and you eat your rice for that.
I won't even lie.. this looks like a lot of work to be doing just to risk dying so often and taking lots of damage.. You could also just attack him head on, deflect him and use Ichimonji Double to kill him with posture damage while recovering your own.. without using spirit emblems. I'm not tryna hate, but this looks like a very costly and risky method to win.
@@arthdenton Thanks man. This guy has made me quit for 3 weeks, since nothing I was throwing at him was working. This looks incredibly promising, I'll get the scales for dragon mask then xp grind to 23 atk power Thanks!
@@hamzahussain7794The need for a higher atk power, and you may be able to do it with less than 23, is because Genichiro can stay stunlocked for 3 axe blows so if you do not kill him in 3 he jumps and things can get more complicated. Isshin can be hit twice in phase 2 before you need to dodge but phase 2 is probably the easiest. Phase 3 is where you win the encounter because on phase 4, with the sweet rice and the eel liver you are practically unkillable for 30 seconds which is enough time to kill him. Oh, and a high attack power is not necessarily a wasted grind because NG+ is so much fun if you start it at 24.
@@arthdenton Thanks man, this guy is beating my face so hard, when I started the game I was so hyped and excited to plat and go ng+ and all but this guy has just made me want to finish the game and be done with it. Many thanks for the guide! I will follow it and maybe just maybe I find that spark to go ng+ :)
@@hamzahussain7794 If you save your game BEFORE talking to Kuro after defeating Isshin, you can do 3 endings in this NG. Assuming you killed Owl father. So you save your game then do 'ending 1', reload from save and do 'ending 2', reload again from save and do 'ending 3'.
To be completley honest, if you have played through the game without cheesing and gotten to isshin then it is both significantly more fun and rewarding to fight him as the game intended i.e Deflecting and constantky keeping the pressure on to build the posture bar, this can be so much easier than cheesing as once you learn a boss as well designed as isshin the patterns become engrained into you and the fight is much quicker. in addition you dont learn anything in the fight, you dont develop your reflexes or your skills to properly deflect and counter so the ng+ will be even harder as you havent gotten better, in fact you probably have gotten worse at the game because all you now know is run and hit when there is an opening rather than learning each bosses moves and deflecting, mikiri countering and jump countering accordingly.
Sure. I totally respect your views and that's probably the right, wholesome and honorable way of dealing with the game's last boss. And this is important, since we are dealing with a samurai here. However, I do have an issue when I hear someone say 'to be honest' or, in your case 'to be completely honest' because you are saying it IRL and I am not prepared to deal with those who are not ALWAYS honest and completely so. When you say 'to be honest' you leave the impression that you are normally 'not honest' but, on this special occasion you are making an exception and decided to be honest for a few moments and that's not good. Not to mention the paradox of someone who is by default 'not honest', announcing that he was going to be honest on this specific occasion. Since the person is normally and usually 'not honest', how could anyone believe him when he declares 'I am going to be honest now'. It could be a dishonest statement and, in reality, he continued to be dishonest while claiming the opposite.
There's also an old but true saying work smarter not harder, sometimes it doesn't matter how you get there as long as the result is still the same in the end, not all of us have the time to put into certain games to work out strategies and reflexes we just want to play the game, people have lives so thank you sir or ma'am for your opinion but I also wanna thank the creator for the video that showed us different way to beat the boss.
@@Noble_Isaac i wouldnt call it suffering, ishhin is one of the best designed bosses i have ever fought and i enjoyed the fight from start to finish, even when iu was getting curb stomped at the beginning. and the reason that i strongly advise against doing cheeses is not because i dont like people having an easier time, it is because the reward for beating the boss as the game intended is a thrilling back and forth engagement ending in the satisfaction of beating one of the hardest bosses in the game, which is what this game does exellently. i just see cheeses like this as time consuming and boring, and especially if people have used cheeses throughout the game thene no wonder they are struggling at isshin as the game teaches you through its bosses and minibosses, if you are just going to ignore those lessons then yes, you are going to have a very hard time against this boss. it almost seems that some people just want a 'kill the boss' switch, which is not rewarding in the slightest and not the point of the game

Yaa Lord Isshin can't handle the axe...u won't need alot of heals to deal with if u can dodge and block is pattern attacks. Lighting reversal is easily reversible and bro will give u ample amount of time to use the axe on him when u have dodged or countered his attack...hestitation is defeat yes but losing patience and attacking isshin won't help either.
My attack power is 12 but since he is the last boss I really don't feel like doing any more farming in the game. I can finish Genichiro and phase 1 of Ishin no problem but when he pulls out the staff I'm screwed
@@japbenny4804 I think it's possible with 12 attack power but you need to save all your healing gourds and revives for phase 2 of Ishin when he pulls out the staff because he does insane damage with the staff. In the first phase ishin does the same combo over and over so it's easy to run around and find an opening. Save your spirit emblems and use mortal draw for phase 2. In phase 3 he does the jumping lightning attack that you can reverse and do a ton of damage. Honestly I've lost so many times that I can beat Genichiro and phase 1 of Ishin no problem, I just need to learn the dodge timing of his jump attack in phase 2 and then figure out phase 3. For Genichiro you simply just stay in his face and break down his posture.
You can reach 14 in your first playthrough if you do all bosses. Furthermore, there is an item which allows you to trade skill points for more attack power. In other words, 23 is easily doable in the first ng+ run and with insane grinding even in the very first playthrough.

Idk but i always drink from my red, green, and purple gourds to cheese genichiro by making him do a thrust attack and mikiri countering him like 10 times in 15 seconds.
Still works 2020 👌 buffs not necessary but recommended.
he doesnt seem to get stunlocked for me in phase 2
my man just went full kamikaze with that axe
oh i think you missed the red lump....it would've made your cheese a whole lot better...and, haha, the first Sekiro cheese tutorial i've watched to actually use an eel liver! Who uses those??
Instructions unclear, still getting my ass beat by an old man
edit: Beaten him last week.
grinding to 23 atk now, so far i levelled up to 17
Edit: 22 now, just one to go
This is so satisfying to watch because it is visually pleasing. I will try that.
I did it with 22 attack! I am so happy 2 years of pain are gone! I have beat this boss for the first time. Thank you for this strategy.
Ignorance is very bad. I has spend all my rice balls in nothing, now I don't have.
I wish the demon bell gave every enemy in the game an extra 5 deathblows before dying, I'm a sucker punishment.
I've never seen someone use Tanto three times in a single match
I think part of this is the fact that this guy is also just good at the game
I just can’t get this to work, third phase. I don’t have access to my other rice cake as I accidentally use it. Guess I’ll have to try another time.
You basically destroyed his guard. Very nice strategy!
Do you need to have the blue axe for this
It definitely makes the biggest difference. The fire axe is a close second
Is there any way to get the sweet rice ball if I'm upto the ishin fight already?
Not cheese, just correct use of equipment
Nah fr. This was sweet

20 -Vitality
23 - Attack Power
im like 25+ attack on ng+ and at this point Im just going to have to git gud and fight him the normal attack/deflect way
wow 23 attack power is crazy 💀
this works only with Attack power pimped, went on regular AP 13 for Ng1 and you can barely arrive to phase 4
Amazingly done
Best cheese ive seen ! 😱👍
Good job but tell us that u have 23 p. Attack
0:06
Goes from being Genichiro Ashina 2.0 to armored warrior 2.0 lmao 🤣
Hmm I have 24 Attack power and still im not doing as much posture damage as you with buffs. Am I missing something?
Don't know. Maybe they nerfed the Lazulite Axe since this video was made?
Everything I used for gear and buffs is documented in the video and the notes.
@@arthdenton I'm gonna try that again later. Maybe it's nerfed, maybe I'm not being aggressive enough. But thanks for replying anyway!
That axe is incredible !!!!
i think this got nerfed, went insane at guardian ape duo
Is this definitely nerfed. This feels worth a try.
Tom the fox in my opinion, run around in the 1st phase and bait the cross slash, mortal blade attack, then for the 2nd and 3rd phase, when he does the jump attack run at him then do a mortal blade, repeat until dead, works everytime
Nope, still works
is it lazulite axe?
It doesn't work this way as shown. At least not with lower attack levels.
This is a cheese, not a hack or exploit. For a cheese to work you need to at least come close to matching the prerequisites. And, of course, practice makes better.
How does he make this work. Everytime I parry the first attack and use my axe he hits me with his second swing
You need to be super-aggressive. Be the one who does the 'first attack' so you don't need to parry. Then attack some more. The 'strategy' if there is one, is to overwhelm the enemy at the cost of you taking some damage - and you eat your rice for that.
Lmaooo all my memorization was in vain
I did it - works on patch 1.04!
Good job :))
Do you need to have lazulite axe?
As far as I remember I had this upgrade but with all the buffs shown in the video it is not necessary.
What was your attack power?
I won't even lie.. this looks like a lot of work to be doing just to risk dying so often and taking lots of damage..
You could also just attack him head on, deflect him and use Ichimonji Double to kill him with posture damage while recovering your own.. without using spirit emblems.
I'm not tryna hate, but this looks like a very costly and risky method to win.
agreed
Can I attempt this with normal rice and sweet rice ball? Because I dont have fine snow since I didnt do the questline.
Sure, just make sure you don't get hit much :). I would save the sweet rice for phase 4.
@@arthdenton Thanks man. This guy has made me quit for 3 weeks, since nothing I was throwing at him was working. This looks incredibly promising, I'll get the scales for dragon mask then xp grind to 23 atk power
Thanks!
Is it harder to do this cheese without Lapis axe?
Do you need lazurite axe because I need one more lapiz and can’t get it on this play through have to wait till ng+
Does this work with the fire ax too? I need to get another playthrough to make the lazulite one.
Well dodging and attacking has a different kind of satisfaction.
@@asuperiorjamularproduct8861 you should be honest more often. I don't really believe anything you're saying. Did you really enjoy it?
@@masa5300 yes, sword saint isshin was my 3rd favorite boss of all time, behind Pure vessel and Nightmare King Grimm from Hollow knight
Now he has been replaced with inner isshin who is so fun, like Isshin on steroids, i am being completely honest when i say that i loved fighting isshin
I can’t get rice this is a little harder for me too bad I suck
Can you please put step by step in the description having a hard time beating him?
if i have the fire axe will it work
Yaa Lord Isshin can't handle the axe...u won't need alot of heals to deal with if u can dodge and block is pattern attacks. Lighting reversal is easily reversible and bro will give u ample amount of time to use the axe on him when u have dodged or countered his attack...hestitation is defeat yes but losing patience and attacking isshin won't help either.
no wonder i get my ass kicked all the time, my attack power only 11...😂
My attack power is 12 but since he is the last boss I really don't feel like doing any more farming in the game. I can finish Genichiro and phase 1 of Ishin no problem but when he pulls out the staff I'm screwed
@@jaydoode15 do you think we have to upgrade the attack power? i am lazy doing more farming too, just wanna kick his ass and play new game+
@@jaydoode15 ok bro thanks
isn´t this how your supposed to do it? either this or just use mortal blade
Attack power 23??? Wtf what ng+ number is this?
You can reach 14 in your first playthrough if you do all bosses. Furthermore, there is an item which allows you to trade skill points for more attack power. In other words, 23 is easily doable in the first ng+ run and with insane grinding even in the very first playthrough.
Is this strategy possible if you're not at 23 attack power?
Excuse me. Are the buffs all necessary or is it possible to do this without them?
Buffs were essential in my case because I am not very good. :)
@@arthdenton Just to say I used this technique in the first two stages and it was essentially a breeze. Then I used mortal draw after his jump attacks in the final stages. So just defeated him. Thankyou very much. ☺️👍
this is bullying not cheese
Yeah but you have 23 attack power and I only have 12 🙄
Getting it up to 23 is... not hard. I almost typed easy but it's not easy. Maybe 4-6 hours of 'work'. Which is not a lot for a 40-60 hr. game.
Where’d you get the snow rice thing
Fine snow i mean
@@gsaucy1u need to fulfil the Dragon’s Return ending quest by the Divine Child of Rejuvenation. The girl you meet where you got the Mortal Blade. Completing the quest will upgrade her Rice to Fine Snow and unlock the Dragon’s Return ending.
Yes this didn't do shit in NG+
what’s the axe called can’t find it anywhere. on any guides. on how to find it our it’s name
Lazulite axe
hi, have you got some technique for the owl, on hirata?
There are many videos on it. TBH, I don't remember exactly how I did it. I do remember that I left it for last, right before the Sword Saint because it was the hardest one for me. And there was no cheese for it.
I know I'm late but if you still can't beat him, I beat him using Mortal Draw. Memorize his moves and use Mortal Draw whenever you can. He had beaten my ass too for a long time but once I decided to use the Mortal Draw the fight became a joke. It helps that I had memorized his attacks too, lol.
how does he have attack 23!!??
James Booker oh, so i guess i need to do A LOT more grinding. i’m only attack level 11
James Booker oh ok, well i already beat him and now i’m on my second run! only problem is i feel like i’m skipping some bosses (not on purpose) because i know just where to go so i don’t have to wander around.
@@luciferr6392 I have attack lvl 40 on like ng+3 lel
Good that nobody gives a shit
too bad i didnt pick the axe...
Your just amazing 👏
