    Well done Olly, sorry you didn't manage a wild camp this time, but some nice scenery all the same.
    Don't worry next time you will feel more like it. Take care and keep on doing what you do. 👍

    Given how you felt on the hill I can see so many more positive aspects to the achievement of planning, preparation, driving, hiking, enjoying the scenery, having a meal in the outdoors and ultimately making and being in control of your decision; well done for recognising how you felt and doing what you needed to do. Cheers.

      Thank you, Elliot. It was hard at times to turn down that sense of 'failure' and embrace my achievements. Comparisons with others came naturally, as there were many other folk camped comfortably on either side of the valley.
      I hope you're having a good weekend and thank you,, as always. All the best.

    Fantastic video. I love the Black Mountains, I find it much harder going than the Central Beacons but also it's far easier to get some solitude.
    I think most people documenting their trips out would not post a video where they abort their camp but it's important to normalise things like this. When it doesn't feel right it doesn't feel right and there's nothing wrong with that. As long as you can get yourself off safely then that's the main thing.
    Definitely spoilt for choice for places for a cheeky stealth camp closer to home 👍

      @WalksWithOlly  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, Luke. I definitely enjoy this area more than the Central Beacons. I like to go further west again when I can. But each time, I find it's surprisingly busy.
      There were a good number of tents pitched up on either side of the valley, heading back down past the reservoir.
      You're right also. TH-cam recommended a video to me yesterday (Chrissy Explores?). She went on her first solo wild camp, encountered some difficulties and wasn't going to share the video.
      Closer to home will be the way for now. ;-) Hope your weekend is going well. All the best.

    Battling some issues myself gives a little insight into how you're feeling. Whatever decision you made was the right decision, and thank you for sharing the video. More of us need to be honest about these sorts of issues.

      Sorry to hear about your own issues but there need not be any shame in sharing. I hope you're still able to get out and about and to find your way to manage it. Thanks for watching. Hope you have a good week.

    Olly, a beautiful evening with great light and visibility so you definitely got the good weather☀ Always cool to get out and give it a go and to change plans when necessary. Agree that there is something really important about feeling it, sometimes this comes for me after pushing it to get out and get somewhere, whereas other times it means I don't get over the door. Take care👍

      Thanks, Gerry. Glad you understand the importance of feeling it or not and truly listening to ourselves. Not tuning in to the hypothetical expectations of others.
      Hope you have a good week and all the best.

    Hope you enjoyed a good meal, even if you didn't feel like staying the night. The views there were stunning. I'm hoping to go on my first real wildcamp soon (other than a few in my local woods) on Gower. South Wales certainly has some great locations for it. Cheers. J.

      Hi J and thanks for watching.
      Certainly, there was still a lot to appreciate about my time there and the effort I'd made for the evening.
      I hope you do get out for your camp soon. One day, I'll make it to the Gower myself! All the best and hope you're having a good weekend.

    I'm all too familiar with that feeling - hopping either side of the line from "Why not?" to "But I'd rather not". I think you hit the nail on the head when you connected it with a balance of energy. There will be plenty more opportunities ahead ✌️

      Thanks, James. I'm feel impressed with how often you're able to get out and camp and also to the different destinations you travel to. Glad to hear again that you still recognise such thoughts and feelings. ;-)

      @@WalksWithOlly I was hoping to camp in Snowdonia on Friday, but woke up feeling pretty flat. Downgraded my plans to the Brecon Beacons instead, but lost the motivation to make that happen, and ultimately did nothing at all! First time I haven't uploaded a weekend TH-cam video for about 3 months but I'm not forcing a trip to happen just for TH-cam if I don't feel like going. These things happen! 🤷

    • @WalksWithOlly
      @WalksWithOlly  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I find that quite impressive, that you've become so regular at camping and uploading videos. You're certainly allowed some time off and also, to camp without filming. I do also understand those pressures of TH-cam.

    • @joinmeoutdoors
      @joinmeoutdoors 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@WalksWithOlly I'm surprised that I managed such a long stint of consistent uploading myself actually, looking back! The TH-cam pressure has largely been positive so far, and it feels good to have had a weekend off, just to show it who's boss 😎😉

    You did try Olly and for sure enjoyed a good old time in the Black Mountains. It's entirely your time and nobody elses so you spend it your way. I enjoyed the walk wit you and the views. I have to say you were pointing more at Radnorshire than Herefordshire - at one point the Wye valley towards Builth. Love that view of Mid Wales. Well, see you out on a local camp. I reckon you can find a cracking spot. Have a good week. Mark

    • @WalksWithOlly
      @WalksWithOlly  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Mark,
      Thank you for watching. Absolutely, I had a good time and even without achieving the main goal I'd set out for... Sometimes we ask or expect too much of ourselves. I often overlook Radnorshire, only knowing that it used to cover a wider area.
      Thank you, I'm doing what I need to this weekend. Will camp again soon. Hope yours is going well. All the best.

      @@WalksWithOlly A pleasure Olly. Yeah, we pile on the pressure sometimes. I've been learning that recently. A lot of people bypass Radnorshire but it's a great area. See you out there in the next camp. Peace.

    Another nice walk. It's a shame when you don't complete what you set out to do but I know only to well the sometimes that's just how it is. I can't tell you how many videos I've started but nobody has ever seen for similar reasons. At least you made the video.

    Correct decision Olly if you don't feel right. Just means you'll need to come back. Did you pop into the bothy on the way down? Stay safe and ATB Martin

    • @WalksWithOlly
      @WalksWithOlly  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Martin,
      Thanks for watching and for your comment. I've not yet made it down to the bothy - such a steep descent and ascent, I was far too tired on this occasion. A couple of tents were already pitched outside. Tents along the hillside across the dam. Others on my side of the dam with fires on the go... A very popular area for it, indeed!
      I'll definitely return and complete a similar experience another time. I'm even wondering about moving to South Wales in the future. Hope you're having a good weekend and all the best.
