  • @HabuBeemer
    @HabuBeemer 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Not only a beautiful example of an F4U with a real radial engine but the flying was superb. All too often I see large RC versions that are not "flown to scale" and it takes away from the experience. I see jerky movements and most of all not enough rudder in the turns which makes the model slip and skid and would not be something you'd see in real life. This was exceptional flying and an exceptional build. I love the true radial engine as well. Excellent job all the way around. Thank you for the post.

@@Thercgeek, has "Greg" (I'm assuming he is the owner based on an earlier comment posted) ever came out with a posting on the particulars on this bird?
You mentioned it had a 5-cylinder radial engine, but can you tell me who the manufacturer is/was?
Back in my day (I've been out of the hobby for something like 20 or so years for a variety of reasons), the Saito brand was at the forefront of both radial engines and horizontally opposed powerplants. And, again at that time, 5 cylinders were the most made for the modeling public.
Man, this is getting my juices flowing again. LOL

Finally someone that gets it. The aging and weathering is what makes this aircraft look real. It blows my mind to see guys sink thousands of dollars into turbine aircraft where there is no such airframe in existence in the fill size world, when they could have built an F-4 or A-4.
Or the guys that take an F-16 and paint it like a show car in wazoo colors instead of the real colors, WHY???? Or the guys that build giant scale warlords that look like they never left the factory. WW II aircraft were plenty weathered before they ever left the CONUS.

    Absolutely OUTSTANDING!
One of my all time favorite Warbirds and I wish my uncle hadn't sold his REAL Corsair back in the 60's. 😰
It is also one of the few Warbirds I never had the pleasure of wrenching on during my career as an FAA certified A&P Mechanic.
    Ahhhhhh, the Good Old Days.
But this is truly a SPECTACULAR R/C model of an historically important airplane.
Where can I learn more about its construction, dimensions, powerplant and so on?
This is something I could sink my teeth into and (maybe) get me started building and flying R/C aircraft again.

Extremely detailed, sounds fantastic. I know this weird but the taping fore of the canopy (in reality used to prevent misting the windscreen with oil) is just, right. Can't put my finger on it but it looks "functional" on this one vs. decorative on some of the others I've seen.

Well, in terms of major retailers, horizon hobby (bit.ly/HorizHby) is the largest game in town these days as they bought up tower hobbies about a year or two ago. They have the big Top Flite corsair (bit.ly/3d88UpX). They had the big Hangar 9 one too, but looks like it's no longer available. Another good option for warbird ARFs is VQWarbirds.com. They have a nice and growing selection of various aircraft. Specifically to this Corsair, this one is actually available from Composite-ARF (carf-models.com/en/products/f4u-1d-corsair) and is about as pinnacle a model of the corsair that you can get!

Agreed! The corsair and CARF P-47 were alone in the air for the first little bit but then a glow guy took off half way through the flight. So I tried to work around that as best I could. :(

What a fantastic video!!! That has to be a Moki 250? I have the FlightLine 1600 bubbletop. IMHO the F4U is the most beautiful bird made and is breathtaking coming in to land especially on a carrier approach to show off the wings! Thanks for sharing!!!!

This has got to be the best Corsair video I have ever seen or heard. I'm going to ask a stupid question but did you add the sound effects to get a gas motor sound or is this a gas motored rc? The way you faded the paint and gave it a realistic look is outstanding . The detail is flawless ! Awesome awesome video. 👍👍👍

That is the actual sound of the engine in the model. It features a 5-cylinder radial engine in it which is what gives it that authentic sound. Thanks for watching! 😊

An even better option, is to build the entire r/c plane out of 15 guage aircraft aluninum.Scale down the factory blue prints;of the massive 18 cylinder Pratt & Whitney R2800 radial, and build it from scratch to the exact scale of this F-4U-1 Corsair r/c model. Also, add the oil cooling lines; from the oil tank,to the oil pumps and coolers in the leading edge of the wings;because as the plane would make a high speed bombing and strafing run,the cold air rushing over the oil coolers;would produce a high pitched whistling sound;which is why the Japanese nick named the F-4U-1 Corsair "Whistling Death".Built as described above, the r/c model would be more historically acurrate.

I've seen guys build exact scale models completely out of metal at this size. Gets a bit heavy if you're trying to do that for a flying model, but it's absolutely stunning to behold something like that.

@@Thercgeek I have seen an example of an F-4-U4 Corsair of the Korean War period, built entirely out of light weight aircraft aluninum;and was told by the owner that it needed a 4 blade Hamilton prop and landing gear that was hydraulically operated due to the immense torque load the model produced due to its overall weight;when fully loaded with oil and fuel.He had all of the parts fabricated and machined for him at a metal working shop including all of the rivets. All together,it took about 5 to 10 years for him to complete it.This was about 10 years ago;when I went camping at chatfield Reservoir,in Colorado. The state park has a tarmac and a run way for r/c planes and helicopters.
