- This week we are back watching Aliens and we brought along a few guests! Our friends Stephen and Alyssa join us to watch this movie and be scared all together! Aaron has never seen this movie, and the rest of us haven't seen it in years, so get ready for some crazy reactions! We hope you enjoy this journey and subscribe for more movie and show reactions!

Assholes and elbows is a military slang term that started being used during the Vietnam War meaning to hurry or get busy.
...or as we Brits say: hands off cocks, hands on socks!
My understanding is that it means all he wants to see is people's backsides as they move away to follow his orders and elbows flying as they hurry up about it.
I always thought it meant "line up"
It was used in farming LONG before 'Nam. The intent being that if the farmer looked out to the field all he would see is people's behinds and elbows because they would all be bent over picking crops.
Did you know that the little girl playing Newt never acted on anything before this movie? Not even school plays. Also, in the chute scene, when she falls, she kept ruining the scene on purpose so she could try it again. Of course, the director noticed that. LOL
Also, Sigourney Weaver (Ripley) was nominated for an Oscar for this role. Do you know how hard it is to be nominated for this genre?
Also, the old woman on the picture who is supposed to be Ripley's daughter was actually Sigourney's mother.
Also, the studio didn't want to pay Sigourney what she deserved so they asked the director to pursue a story without Ripley and him being James Cameron told them to fuck off and refused. Thank God for that.
Newt was such an awesome character, sad she that Carrie didn't pursue acting.

yeah she only got the role after she went to an audition with her brother who was up for the role of newts brother, which he got, i really like that they are real siblings it just sells it so much better

If you start counting down in the film where she has 15 minutes to escape....it's is exactly 15 minutes in the movie! Masterfully edited!
The first time I watched this I was too immersed in the action to look at the clock, but knowing it's James Cameron I trusted that he wouldn't screw it up.
I timed it, no offense please it is one minute shorter.
18:05 I love the little moment with Vasquez giving the handgun to Bishop, him looking it over for a second, and then handing it back to Ripley. He knows exactly how much good it'll do him if the Aliens take an interest in him.
not only that but he's not a combat synth, he wouldn't know what to do with it literally
@@OmegaSaiyan92 I'm not sure about that - Bishop's handy with a combat knife - but I'm sure you're right. He'd know that his lack of advanced combat capabilities would also be a factor in why a handgun would be basically useless to him.

When Vasquez died... It broke me. She was beyond supreme badass
The Queen was indeed an animatronic. It took a team of about 14 puppeteers to bring her to life.
They built the full-size proof of concept puppet out of garbage bags and duct tape to prove they could do it.

Fun story about the Al Matthews the actor who plays Apone, the Sergeant in charge. Apparently he is a former marine in real life and on the set there was once an electrical malfunction on the tank vehicule which started a fire with possible explosions...Apparently he just snap back in survival mode like in the war and save all the crew who was inside before the got damages ! The guy was a hero, you can't take away training from a man ! It could have been a catastrophe for the production of the movie if the crew got hurt !
The actress who plays Vasquez was also in T2 Judgment day as John's foster mother Janelle
Also the Irish mother on the Titanic.

These kids suck. They didn't understand a thing. They also joked way too much.
The scene where they wake up and eat was the last scene filmed, this is why everyone is joking around and they have such great comradery

Yeah....this one scared the crap out of me. I watched the whole thing in the theater with my knees pulled up to my chest. The aliens were gonna grab my feet from under the theater seat.

Ripley only just missed her daughter's death if she left before her daughter was 11 and Amanda died when she was 66. 10+57 = 67.
Burke did mention she'd died two years before Ripley came back.

Halo was inspired by the Aliens series, from the Elites looking similar to Xenomorph Aliens and the UNSC Marines looking similar to the Colonial Marines.
That and Apone and Johnson practically being the same person
Well Halo worked quite fine and expanded.
Elites weren't based off the xenonorph they were based off the Predator. Due to the mandibles

The extended version includes the scenes where she sees the photo of her daughter (which was actually a pic of Sigourney's mother), Newts parents discover the alien ship and her dad gets a gooey hug to the face, and the automatic guns in the tunnel, I think those are the only parts they cut out of the general release.
There's also another deleted scene that never made it into either where Ripley finds Burke cocooned in the wall while she's looking for Newt. He asks her to kill him and she gives him a grenade. They cut that from all releases, I think because it messed with the emotional flow of Ripley looking for Newt.
They cut the Burke thing because it wouldn't match the established time line between getting hugged and being awake again. We know from ALIEN that it takes atleast a day or so.
The automatic guns are a key scene as to why the aliens get up into the roof. When they finished shooting almost all the ammo you can see the hallway has been destroyed from the acid blood and multiple hundreds of shots from the guns. There is a part of the ceiling hanging down and they crawl up in there. It is awesome.
Watch 3 at least. But watch the better cut version and not the theatrical release.

Just so you know Hudson and Vasquez their actors are the one of the only people that have been killed by an alien predator and Terminator. By the way a xenomorph strength is on par with The Predator. So the fact that Vasquez pushes one with a foot shows how badass she is

3. The late Bill Paxton(RIP) is the only actor to have his character die in the Alien,
Predictor and Terminator series. He plays Hudson in this one.
4. MIchael Biehn/Hicks also played Reese in Terminator.
5. Lance Henriksen/Bishop also had a minor role in Terminator as well.
6. IRL Burke/Paul Riser's mother actually stood up and applauded during a special screening
when Burke got his.
7. How about we give Bishop some love. He was the real hero.
I think Alien 3 is actually quite good, people were pissed when it came out because it is different than the first two. Check it out.
Alien 4 has it's corny moments, but if you know that going into it, roll with it - it is also a good movie, and pay close attention to the Alien in this one....
Yeah I liked _Alien 3_ as well (I think it was the first in the franchise that I saw). _Alien Resurrection_ was just ok but definitely not on par with the first two films in the series! 😉

I like 4, personally, but I'm also a big fan of pretty much everything Joss Whedon's done, so I'm likely biased compared to the average.
Ridley Scott dropped the ball with his "prequels" and the android "David." By comparison, "Alien3" and "Alien Resurrection" sorta make sense. Good, you're watching the Special Edition, which adds weight and drama to Ripley's and "Rebecca's" stories. "Assholes and elbows" is all a supervisor sees of a hard-working crew, doing serious manual labor. Vasquez and Drake are Squad Automatic Weapons operators, and, as such, they have to check that the joints and bearings work, so they can fire "short, accurate bursts" to take out the enemy. It's more interesting if you have naive reactors; a roomful of freaked out people are "more entertaining."
I've never understood why people like the extended. It ruins the Newt reveal & Ripley doesn't need to be a mother to care for a kid.
I like Alien3. It returns to a darker suspense horror genre and has some great characters. I'd watch it. Alien 4 changes things too much and is all about style over substance.
Popular opinion is A3 is terrible. I thought so but I rewatched it recently and like it better.

Since you were all wondering about Burke getting "hived"...he was. They filmed a deleted scene where Ripley is searching the hive for Newt. She comes across a hived and impregnated Burke, who begs Ripley for help, saying he can feel "it" inside him. She gives him a grenade and keeps looking for Newt. You can find the deleted scene on TH-cam if you search hard enough.
Seriously guys, you say the first movie was a tad slow in places then moan cos the marines don't spend 8 hrs of a 2 hr movies searching the compound to make it secure. Get a grip.
29:05, the music was used in every Action Adventure movie trailer there is, until it was no longer in use.
Useless fact: The actress Carrie Henn (Newt) spent several years growing up in the U.K. as her parents were in the military so she developed a slight English accent. I always remember hearing the line, " "They mostly come at night,....mostly" and thinking the way she said it sounded odd to my ear. The character Cartman made light of that in an episode of SouthPark.
fun fact: the music that plays over Ripley getting back to the gantry and escaping in the drop ship is called "Bishop's Countdown". When James Horner wrote the score for the movie, he ran out of time to write something for that scene and it got written at the last minute the night before it needed to be recorded and has since been used in numerous action movie trailers over the years, making it one of the most recognisable pieces of music in movie history th-cam.com/video/NlzkGd7qaMY/w-d-xo.html
Do "The Thing" and then "Tombstone" because "Tombstone" has Hicks, Hudson from "Aliens" and MacCready from "The Thing"

Watch at least 3, and if you do you absolutely *must* watch the Assembly Cut (sometimes called Special Edition). The theatrical version was butchered by the studio and is a significantly lesser film. The proper cut is the longer one and deserves to be watched.
Fun fact: To this day, that Alien Queen animatronic is still considered the biggest movie prop in cinema history

Folks like to site the T-Rex from “Jurassic Park” as bigger they didn’t build a full sized T-Rex. It was half CGI and half robotic

"Stay frosty" = keep cool. This movie made the phrase kinda popular for a while.
At beginning. Joking, laughing. First Xeno appears. Everyone in stress. I love it. Show Respect to The Xenomorphs. :) XD
Most "modern" movies would be leaning hard into playing up the laughs even in what should be a tense scene, still love this movie to bits
Three & Four are worth a watch; they might not be popular due to story discicions but they follow along Ripleys road to the end.
Three's a mess due to all kinds of interference, but it's worth watching if only to see David Fincher's directorial debut (it being Fincher's first film left him relatively powerless in keeping the studio at bay).
I just outright like Four.
Star Wars came out in 1977. Alien came out in 1979. Empire strikes back came out in 1980. Return of the Jedi came out in 1983. Aliens came out 1986.
Mixed feelings aside curious for your take of the other sequels, AvP AvP Requiem, Prometheus and Covenant. Aren’t many reactions to the saga and it be great to get your perspective on them

@@cesareonthemidway Sure, but it's Fincher. He doesn't tolerate happy endings. Alien 3 was his first movie (!!!), so I'm not sure people got that yet. He drove the point home with his next film , Seven.
I liked Resurrection, myself. Anything beyond that I would probably ignore, except for Fassbender's performances.

Though of a conflicting impression the following Alien sequels Alien3 & Alien Resurrection and spin offs Alien vs Predator and the Prequels it would make for interesting reactions, you'll either be disappointed or find em to be underrated, please react to these films,

Prometheus is not actually a prequel, even though things happen before alien in the timeline.
It's a paralel story run into the same universe. You can check it noticing David watching on the big door and see the process on how xenomorphs come to life. So the xenomorphs we know already exist, and they are the menace the Space Jockeys were running away from in the hologram (and one of them got his head cut by the door). He got the attention to the process, steals the black "mud" and put a stain of it on the officer's glass, asking him how far would he go for the love of science.
The xenomorph born in Alien Covenant is the David's' lineage from his experiment, not the xenomorph we know.
Why are you watching such a dark movie in such a brightly lit room? I'm imagining all the reflections on your screen and cringing...

Give 3 a shot it’s not bad. Do NOT watch 4 & do NOT watch Prometheus or covenant. Just go watch predator (1987) and predator 2 (1990) and do not watch anything further.
There is a deleted scene from the climax of the film where Ripley does find Burke in the nest, and he has indeed been impregnated.
It was deleted because it made no sense that a facehugger could impregnate someone that quickly (in less than 30 minutes).
"Stay frosty" meant "Stay alert" in my military days.
Keep your alert focus so sharp and cool that frost could form on it.
They should have watched this with the lights out! That is how I have people watch them for the first time... I think I will video tape the next session we have... as I have had some very jumpy people...

It is cool when this generation watch the movies I watched growing up as a teen.
Haven't finished the reaction yet but I second watching Alien 3 and resurrection. As a stand alone I think 3 is great, very suspenseful and well shot, even if there's upset following on from Aliens. And Resurrection is a lot of fun, and has great characters, even if it's out there in terms of the continuation of the story.

Alien 3 isn't as enjoyable or satisfying to watch as the first two films, but it all feels very much part of the same universe and is still a decent film with a couple of interesting twists that is worth a watch.
Alien 4 on the other hand is clownshoes from start to finish. You should take off and nuke the entire film from orbit.

Best movie ever! Love it! 3 and 4 aren't nearly as great... similar to Terminator after 2. However, Prometheus and Covenant, IMO, just destroy the franchise history. Great visually, but destroy the mythos and unknown history...
Stay frosty is military speak for keep your head, don't let emotions rule you. Do that and you're safe and in a better space, mentally.
Two main differences from the special edition: the scene with the autoguns was new and the scenes with the colony and how they discovered the alien ship. Also some scenes in the space station, when Ripley recovers.
I like the third and fourth movies. They have their own stiles and are pretty good, if not necessarily as Alien movies.

Avoid Alien 3, however there’s an alternative. The originally intended version of Alien 3 that wasn’t filmed and is a fan favorite, is William Gibson’s Alien III. It’s available on Audible and is voiced by Michael Biehn (Hicks) and Lance Henrikson (Bishop)
It’s the version that we should’ve gotten and most importantly, the four survivors of Aliens are alive and well
in the making of. the director had designers come up with sketches for the Sulaco design. he had asked for it to be as realistic as could be for a deep space vessel design.well. ridley scott literally threw the sketch in the trash and said "ok, just make it cool"

Do watch Alien 3 , but make sure you watch the Extended version. I fixes some loose end in the storyline that was not in the theatrical version.

"Space sucks" 31:24 , or is it that the ship blows? The rate of air flow would decrease as the ship's internal pressure decreases, though losing partial pressure of oxygen rapidly would also potentially lead to hypoxia. So, climbing out of the airlock wouldn't be as difficult as holding onto the ladder initially, though it might explain why she didn't think to close the outer door from within too.

I think I like alien and aliens just as much. Aliens is the perfect sequel and everyone should see the first 2 as a whole. Terminator, no, the more I watch/think about it, the less I like #2. And I've seen all of these countless times

I’m honestly annoyed about certain choices in the sequels but it would be neat to see your reaction.
The theatrical cut wasn't as good. The scenes about Ripley's daughter, Newt's parents and the colony before the Marines arrive were left out, totally dropping the whole lost-my-mom/daughter connection between Ripley and Newt, some of the scenes between Ripley and Hicks and their relationship were cut to where it was almost nonexistant, the awesomely-cool sentry-gun scene was cut, there's a deleted scene that gets put back into some of the edited-for-television versions where while going to rescue Newt, Ripley finds Burke still alive slimmed to the wall with an alien about to bust out of him, so she gives him a grenade to blow himself up before it busts out. th-cam.com/video/9AbWOL7muys/w-d-xo.html
The theatrical cut was just as good if not better. You didn't have to see the colony at its regular state to get the impact of seeing its after the aliens wiped everything out. Its almost more effective to imagine what it was like.

Vasquez and Drake weapnos M56 Smart gun were made of MG-42 Maschinengewehr and motorcycle parts and all that was mounted on steadicam rig due heavy weigth. Just MG-42 is 12kg.
Pulse Rifles M41A were Thompson M1A1 submachine guns with mounted Remington shootgun under barrel as granade lucher. It was interesting film shoothing with heavy equipment and loud blank ammunition.
The sure fire formula for a great sequel: Add more monsters and a cute kid.

The problem with 3 is that it completely cuts the heart out of Aliens. The entire second movie becomes narratively pointless except as a mechanism to put Ripley in the physical location where 3 takes place.

If you decide to watch Alien 3 watch the work print edition, not the theatrical cut. It’s a much better movie, even on a technical level. The audio is clearer and the editing is sharper

The additions in the extended version, is the back story of Ripley's daughter, showing the colonists find the aliens, some extra dialog, and the sentry gun sequences. Personally I think the theatrical release is better, because it moves faster and the colonist situation is more mysterious. In the theatrical release you don't know if the colonists have encountered the aliens until the space marines start sweeping the compound.
I prefer the theatrical as well
