I work at a tire shop and as a tire tech I would never even try fixing a big rig tire with a whole on the sidewall and for whoever is gonna end up mounting and putting 100 psi in that tire good luck I would never go for it it’s too dangerous it can blow up on your face come on people use some common sense
Third world country they don't have tires at there disposal as we do....they make do with what they have, that tire will probably never fail because of that repair....they aren't driving on highways at highway speeds....
Come work at a steel mill. The masks are 'required', but no one wears them. You sweat, the mask absorbs it. After 5 minutes you are waterboarding yourself while trying to do hard labor. It's much less painful to just breath the steel dust.
Enjoy your first world privilege. Most of the rest of the world functions in a much less coddeled safety bubble than you live in. First world over protection creates first world sissies.

The puncture is right on the edge of the tire, any tire shop would tell you to just get a new tire, it's not worth fixing at that point even with good tread. I work at a tire shop as well😂

I am in the US and I don't know anything about tires. I do know that when I have had a nail in my car tire anywhere near the sidewall I was told no repair, only replacement. This is totally unsafe tire repair. A huge piece of the tire is being removed. This jeopardizes the structure of the tire. Chinese tires are cheaply made and replacement is required. The labor entailed in attempting to fix the damaged tire further indicates why the tire should be replaced. This is a ridiculous repair. Do Not perform this repair. ! Unsafe !

No “reputable” tire repair facility in this country would even consider repairing that tire! Not to mention, by law they can’t!! That part of the tire has the highest stress levels. And it seems she was more concerned about the rubber dust on her hoodie than in her lungs!!🤦♂️🤷♂️
That is called a section repair and it is more common than you would expect. It is mostly done in Ag and OTR but can be done on commercial truck. Most of the time the cost of labour and materials make it cheaper to replace truck tires.
@AJ Nichols not necessarily. i charge $56 for a section repair here in new England. vs a 4-6 hundred dollar tire. once its been section repaired though i wont retread it. im not adding 4 more years to the tire

I would have double or triple plugged the outside, then snipped inside and single and then double patched the eventual size used. I just do not see the benefit in taking out all that material only to put it back. But I do agree, a tire damaged outside the tread CAN be reasonably repaired.

Hello my respect for your diligence, but I still suggest that you wear a breathing mask when sanding because the dust gets stuck in your lungs. This is very dangerous for your health in the future.
In my opinion: I was amazed at how far she went with it. A tire like that shouldn't go over 55 mph & be only driven in the city - like with retreaded tires. Retreaded tires aren't meant for really high speeds & we see all sorts of shear off all over the highway because of it. There are plug patches to simplify punctures. You'd grind the inside around the hole exactly like a patch & pull the tapered plug through the hole extending to the outside tread to where you trim it flush. She appears to have ground into the belt structures for reasons unbeknownst to me. The tire should blow out there when hot. A tire like that would run 115 psi & after a long drive get to 175 psi. If that were to be a axillary rear tire for an off road trailer she might get some use out of it. But I wouldn't want to be standing next to it when it blows. Someone meantioned it was a side wall issue. But truck tires aren't the same as light passenger vehicle tires. Truck tires seal at the outside bead after being blasted with an air cannon to get the side walls to meet the rim with air rushing in through the valve stem. I wouldn't have ground into the belt area even if I felt that I needed that tire being the last tire on earth & just used a plug patch & called it good. You could lay a bigger Patch over the plug patch as an extra precaution. That's some scary repair.

The cost of a new tire must be horrendous in whatever country this is being done in. This would get you brought up on criminal charges in the U.S. and most of Europe, and Canada and Japan. Not really worth it for the condition of the tire or tread left.

No tire shop I have ever been in contact with in the USA have ever told me anything other then tire replacement when it comes to sidewall damage. This usually leads to a 2 or even a 4 tire purchase with a dual wheel assembly. A good drive tire is now 600 to 800 dollars a piece in the USA. A tire repair like this might be worth a try with a vehicle that never travels more then 45 mph. Sidewalls flex a lot which is why, I am told, repairs to sidewall damage dont work. Many commets here have such repairs actually illegal in most US states.
During the course of these various repairs, there is a lot of dust created. She should wear a mask with filters that could protect her against micro fibers. Over time, she could develop brething issues.

I worked for a tire manufacture for years. You never, ever try to repair, plug or patch a hole in the sidewall. Never! The integrity of the tire is ruined and will blow out. It is illegal in the US to do this type repair.

It won’t blow out. Mfg Just say that because so people buy new tires. I’ve seen trucking companies do this on the down low to save money and never an issue with blow out. If you noticed on the shelf it looked like it had Chinese written on it. I have a hard time believing it would be legal to make that kind of repair in the USA on drive tires and especially not on the steer tires. I guess since China places a low value on a human life of course they would consider it acceptable. I’m curious whether they even have high speed interstates over there.

Just make sure your long hair is always tied up really well. Scares me seeing people with long hair and rotary tools. There was a young woman in the tool shop at this college. She was in the work area by herself. She was using a drill press. Her long hair got caught. It instantly jerked her away from being able to hit the off switch. It scalped her, and she died.

It's against the law in California to repair a tire side wall. I have had customers beg me to do it, I refused.
Most places will refuse to do a sidewall repair like that because of the liability.
CA has a LOTTA STUPID laws but that ain't one of them. That tire is toast.

thats actually false. a professional with the right equipment can repair a crown, and even a sidewall.

If you noticed on the shelf it looked like it had Chinese written on it. I have a hard time believing it would be legal to make that kind of repair in the USA on drive tires and especially not on the steer tires. I guess since China places a low value on a human life of course they would consider it acceptable. I’m curious whether they even have high speed interstates over there.

Just make sure your long hair is always tied up really well. Scares me seeing people with long hair and rotary tools. There was a young woman in the tool shop at this college. She was in the work area by herself. She was using a drill press. Her long hair got caught. It instantly jerked her away from being able to hit the off switch. It scalped her, and she died.
Man that’s awful to imagine. You are right. I knew a girl who had long hair and was tubing. Being pulled behind a boat like a skier only on a big tube. She was experienced and the boat was Fast. Her hair got wrapped and tangled on the rope and scalped her as well. She lived.
Safety should be taught in schools and propaganded on tv. I had many injuries in my life due to ignorance
