Richard Attenborough is wonderful but that remake is AWFUL. You should watch the original, it’s timeless and the original Santa actor won an Oscar for his performance.
Tim Curry’s Pennywise is hands down better than Bill Skarsgard. That’s why I like to go back to the original more than the remake, even though everything else in the remake is better.
agreed. Helped that the movies were that...actual movies. 90's IT had to abide by TV standards so it was neutered, but they worked around it for an effective TV movie. I've always wondered how it would've fared as an actual movie, movie.
Tim Curry can be terrifying when he can be. He auditioned for the role of Judge Doom in Who Framed Roger Rabbit. He didn't get it because he was *****TOO***** scary.
Tim Curry is an absolute LEGEND! When it comes to IT though if they could take some of what was in the mini series and some of what was in the remake it would be perfect. The remake stands out by bringing a lot of the background material from the book into the story that the first on just ignored. I think the OG cast of both kids and adults seemed to have better chemistry than the ones out of the remake.
@@thecunninlynguist The one thing I loved when I saw the remake was actually getting to see real gore, but it’s awesome that I found the original pretty scary without the gore. It was mostly Tim Curry.
Infernal Affairs was a far better film than The Departed. I also preferred the original Scarface with Paul Muni. It had a subtlety and acting prowess that the remake lacked.
Thank you! I'm a Stephen King Fanatic and although I liked the remake, the original miniseries is better to me, especially the way the villian is defeated.
Comparing a big budget blockbuster to a made for TV movie is really punching down imo. On a different note, i didn't even know a lot of these movies were remakes tbh. P.S. True Grit remake was nowhere near as good as the original, you can't fuk with the Duke bro.
For me, "Of Mice and Men" (1992), "The Italian Job" (2003), "The Hills Have Eyes" (2006), and "The Mechanic" (2011) are all better than their original versions. This is just my opinion, but I prefer these newer versions. There are several movies where the original is by far better than the remake, like "The Bad News Bears" for example...😉
1. Little shop of horrors 2. Black Christmas 3. The nutty professor 4. the stepford wives 5. king Kong 6. Carlitos Way - rise to power 7. the lion king 8. the wiz 9. the wrestler 10. My bloody Valentine 11. Amityville 12. house of Wax 13. American werewolf in London-Paris 14. Gone in 60 seconds 15. Shaft ?? Just to name a few movies with possibly a Better ?? Updated version ??
@@Killerneon64 that's perfectly fine with me I have no problem with your opinion you're entitled to your opinion.. but in my opinion The Lion King went from animation/cartoon to CGI closer to reality with the animals and I think it's a great improvement on a already certified classic film . @@jimbo9208 Bill is better because his Pennywise is a cosmic monster disguised as a clown. Which is what he is. Tim Curry is a fine actor but he was just a funny killer clown.
I didn't really like IT chapter 2 in the reboot honestly. Not really scary and not a fan of the final form for Pennywise, even it's weakness was dumb in my opinion
The list is pretty solid and bless you for making John Carpenters The Thing number one because that is the greatest remake ever made IMHO, but you made one glaring omission, and it should’ve been in the honorable mentions: the 1988 version of The Blob smokes the original.
Tim Curry played a really creepy guy on . . . a TV show, too. ( think it was "Criminal Minds".) He is a very versatile actor, that's for sure. Just saw him on a "Roseanne" re-run last week. 😘
Good idea, but then they can't sucker in more viewers with selling familiar franchises and properties. They could advertise a turd and slap the star wars logo on it and plenty of people would still show up
The 2006 remake of "The Hills Have Eyes" was executed much better than the 1977 original. It took everything that made its predecessor great and made them even better! The villains were also much scarier in comparison and the suspense kept me on the edge of my seat more. I'm honestly kind of surprised that, that one didn't at least make the honorary mentions list in this video.
Street Fighter Assassin's Fist (2014) & Street Fighter Resurrection (2016) while the latter was a bit short the former was one of the best Video Game adaptations of all time and people should see both films They're good
Not only is Tim Curry the better Pennywise portrayal, but the musical score was also superior and eerie. The new Pennywise voice sounded like Yoda too.
Body snatchers and The Fly and the Thing all benefited from superior special effects. Unpopular opinion, But The Departed seemed like Spielberg just put a movie together to prove how he could get practically every A list actor into one film. Overkill
Would have to disagree on IT. The movies are suitable-the first one is the better of the two-but Curry’s Pennywise was closer to the novel. The only thing it botched was the spider form, which looked awful.
I'm just gonna say it and we all gonna agree with it. John Carpenter's The Thing (1982) Is easily the Best Remake of all time. The movie never slows down like the original, The Film is really scary then the Original and of course, The Thing it self, Does it look like a Frankenstein Rip-off.
Some missed out movies which I thought were good: 1. The Italian Job 2. The Hills Have Eyes 3. King Kong 4. Casino Royale 5. Cape Fear 6. The Ring 7. The Woman in Black (1989 TV version was better) 8. Dark Water 9. Shutter 10. The Echo
The 2016 movie version of IT may be superior to the 1990 TV movie, overall, but Tim Curry's version of Pennywise is still the stuff of nightmares. I can't stare at a still of his character, far less watch a clip of him in the role, without having to turn away after a few seconds.
GURK! I can't believe you put the new War of the Worlds on this list. That movie was awful! The main characters were obnoxious and annoying and you hoped they were going to get killed. Sadly they survived. Now the 1953 War of the Worlds is a masterpiece! GREAT special effects, wonderful characters, and a fantastic End of the World feel to it. Man, to have seen it in the theaters back then. It must have been the Independence Day of its time.

Thing about the war of the worlds remake is that it is much more based off the original book than the previous movie version. Even had some elements from the novel, such as the Tripods.
Here are 10 movies I think definitely need remakes: 1. Blank Check (1994) - Give the main character an appropriate age love interest 2. Women In Cellblock 9 (1977) - I hate it when the bad guys win 3. Song of the South (1946) - I’ll never understand the controversy surrounding this movie, I thought it was good 4. Disney’s Babes In Toyland (1961) - I think it should be animated this time 5. The Country Bears (2003) - Same with the above 6. The Entity (1982) 7. The Wizard of Oz (1939) - We had the musical, now let’s get a more faithful adaptation That’s actually all I can think of right now, anyone else want to add to it?
I always thought that whole “Say hello to my little friend” line was from Ace Ventura Pet Detective (which I only saw in a commercial) but it was actually from Scarface which I didn’t even know was a remake.
Some very great ones😀Scarface,True Lies,Departed,Ocean's Eleven. Haven't watched IT but it looks great. The Thing is great movie! Story, atmosphere, everything. There's a game who acts as sequel. It's great too. Great video!
The Thing from Another World original has great writing and the dialogue is superb. But John Carpenter's The Thing excels everywhere without making the original obsolete. The characters are likeable and relatable, the story compelling as hell, the tension is outstanding, and the creature is absolutely TERRIFYING beyond our worst nightmares.
Good God, never THE DEPARTED or HEAT; having a more famous cast doesn't matter when so much of the additions were so dumb. And again you forget THE MALTESE FALCON
I hate hate HATE when people don’t give credits to the original IT and Tim curry’s performance. You cannot convince me the remake was better, it was ruined by terrible CGI and a super cringy penny wise. Tim curry always!!
Let's see: I've seen about half the great films on this list. I saw _Invasion Of The Body Snatchers_ in late-1978 when I was 11 years old. That was the first film I ever saw with another kid my age. It seriously disturbed me and even grossed me out especially in a couple of scenes (including the iconic ending), but I am SO GLAD I saw it when I did. Phillip Kaufman directed it so brilliantly, casting it with great actors and even not so great actors who were nevertheless perfect for their respective roles. It's the first time I ever saw Donald Sutherland, Jeff Goldblum, Brooke Adams and Veronica Cartwright in anything (and of course only the second thing I ever saw Leonard Nimoy in, although I was never really too into "Star Trek" back then). The film was absolutely ahead of its time. Phillip Kaufman's vision and direction for the film was so brilliant that the man literally predicted the rise of the yuppies in 1978, which was officially 2 or 3 years before that even started. Both _Invasion Of The Body Snatchers_ and _The Fly_ are two of the greatest Sci-fi/Horror films of all-time and Jeff Goldblum is in both of them. (He was, of course, absolutely robbed of a Best Actor nomination for _The Fly_ but I suspect everyone reading this already knows that.) _The Departed_ was amazing and finally earned Martin Scorsese his long-overdue Best Director/Best Picture Oscars®. (I strongly feel that he should have previously won it for _The Aviator,_ but it is what it is.) I still need to see _Heat_ which I also didn't realize was a remake. Funnily enough: Just as _Heat_ FINALLY brought us Al Pacino vs. Robert de Niro, _The Departed_ - 10 years later - brought us the also long-awaited Matt Damon vs. Leonardo DiCaprio. *CHEF'S KISS* There are so many great movies on this list, some of which I still need to see. Thank you, Mojo.
I know this is a hot take, but I will stand by the fact that Carrie 2013 is the best version of that story because of the characterization of Margaret White, the changes they make with Tommy and Sue, and the way the prom scene plays out.
Suspiria. Luca grounded such a fantastical story and gave it a hell of a lot more substance than the 77 original has ever had. 77s is still legendary, but he did EXACTLY what remakes are supposed to do.
Cameron's True Lies was more a homage to the spy genre than a remake per se. Harry Tasker's infiltration at the start of the film was a nod to Goldfinger; Charlton Heston's Basil Trilby, head of Omega Sector, was a play on Marvel Comics' Col. Nick Fury of S. H. I. E. L. D.., for example. The original Ocean's 11 had a touch of being more plausible, since in the original, Dan Ocean and his crew were all World War II combat veterans- their being able to pull off the heist was more believable.
I just finished reading Jack Finney’s “Invasion of the Body Snatchers”, looked into the orig and three (or four) remakes, and thought, in the hands of a good director, screenwriter, and cast, this would make a hell of a movie.
This is a decent list but The Thomas Crown Affair should not only have featured, but been in the top 3! Miracle on 34th street should also have been included.
Yes there's a remake me thought surpassed the original on TV or on Hulu or on the DVDs like Dune & Dune Part Two and Invasion Of The Body Snatchers and The Departed and True Lies and War Of The Worlds and Scarface and Oceans Eleven and Heat and The Birdcage and True Grit and IT & IT Chapter Two and Father Of The Bride and The Thing
I recently watched the OG 1984 Dune for the first time. I really enjoyed it. And Patrick Stewart looked really sharp in that black uniform too. Planning on getting the 4k Blu-ray.
No, no and NO! The Departed is absolutely NOT and improvement over Infernal Affairs. Sorry for Martin Scorsese, great filmmaker, and sorry he had to earn his first Oscar with a remake.
I was ready to agree with everything on this list... up until #1. I only watched The Thing a few years ago and I thought it was much better than the remake. But also, there is no way in hell that the remake of The Thing is better than the remake of IT.
The IT remake better than the original?! Are you f*cking KIDDING me?! Tim Curry managed to bring malice in charm in equal measure in a MADE FOR FLIPPING TV MOVIE, whereas Skarsgaard was in a two part snooze fest that WASTED the R rating. Seriously, if nothing else, do a split screen of the Mrs Kersh scene. Which one scares you worse? Beverly's rotted corpse of a father chasing her through the house, or the goofy CGI whacky arm waving inflatable tube man?
Love love love love love 2017's It and 2019's It Chapter Two, they're my favorites horror films past 2000. The Losers Club provides lots of heartwarming moments and the ending put It novel to a another level
Good List. Another Remakes better than the Originals (in my Opinion): Kiss of Death, The Last House on the Left, 2001 Maniacs, The Getaway, 13 Ghosts, House of Wax, Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Finally someone who actually agrees with me but mojo is just going to turn around and say that we're wrong.
I much prefer the original War of the worlds, True grit, Ocean's eleven and I.T. to the remakes.
It's not _I.T._ it's just _It._
Infernal Affairs was a far better film than The Departed. I also preferred the original Scarface with Paul Muni. It had a subtlety and acting prowess that the remake lacked.
About Infernal Affairs, I fully agree.
When it comes to Scarface, they are almost two different movies.
Wtf did you smoke, people from WatchMojo? Mr. Curry's Pennywise is f*cking legendary.
When I bought the original It DVD from Target, the cashier told me that a lot of people prefer it over the remake
Thank you! I'm a Stephen King Fanatic and although I liked the remake, the original miniseries is better to me, especially the way the villian is defeated.
Doesn’t matter, Skaarsgard is still better than Tim Curry
Agree about WOTW , True Grit and The Thing. These remakes were far superior.
I don't think it was fair to compare the two. One was made for tv and so had to leave out a lot that made the other so great.
Comparing a big budget blockbuster to a made for TV movie is really punching down imo. On a different note, i didn't even know a lot of these movies were remakes tbh.
P.S. True Grit remake was nowhere near as good as the original, you can't fuk with the Duke bro.
Yah plus early 90s didn’t have as advanced technology
A few remakes that surpass the originals are The Italian Job (2003), Freaky Friday (2003), The Jungle Book (2016), Cinderella (2015), and True Lies.
Jungle Book isn't even remotely better than the original.
Love Cinderella ! But the 1950 version had the iconic song sang by the mice
The Blob
The Blob in '88 was way better than the Steve McQueen version...
The original Blob was actually a horror comedy and definitely a B movie.
1. Little shop of horrors
2. Black Christmas
3. The nutty professor
4. the stepford wives
5. king Kong
6. Carlitos Way - rise to power
7. the lion king
8. the wiz
9. the wrestler
10. My bloody Valentine
11. Amityville
12. house of Wax
13. American werewolf in London-Paris
14. Gone in 60 seconds
15. Shaft ??
Just to name a few movies with possibly a Better ?? Updated version ??
I’m sorry but I highly disagree with the lion king
@@Killerneon64 that's perfectly fine with me I have no problem with your opinion you're entitled to your opinion.. but in my opinion The Lion King went from animation/cartoon to CGI closer to reality with the animals and I think it's a great improvement on a already certified classic film . I mean it's hard to improve perfection but it looks like they have... In my opinion....
Don’t forget man on fire
True Lies is still underrated in my book. I think this has so much going for it and still holds up today.
Imagine thinking the IT remake is better than the original.
but it is scarier just like the book
@@jimbo9208 Bill is better because his Pennywise is a cosmic monster disguised as a clown. Which is what he is. Tim Curry is a fine actor but he was just a funny killer clown.
I do, but we can agree to disagree.
I didn't really like IT chapter 2 in the reboot honestly. Not really scary and not a fan of the final form for Pennywise, even it's weakness was dumb in my opinion
I think it’s scarier but I don’t know if it’s overall better
While not a movie, the SciFi/SyFy Channel's mini-series adaptation of Dune was truly epic! It truly kept to the book.
The Birdcage is an ABSOLUTELY HYSTERICAL film.
The list is pretty solid and bless you for making John Carpenters The Thing number one because that is the greatest remake ever made IMHO, but you made one glaring omission, and it should’ve been in the honorable mentions: the 1988 version of The Blob smokes the original.
Tim Curry will always be the better Pennywise.
This is what Hollywood should do
Take unknown stories and bring them for everyone to see
Tim Curry played a really creepy guy on . . .
a TV show, too. ( think it was "Criminal Minds".) He is a very versatile actor, that's for sure. Just saw him on a "Roseanne" re-run last week. 😘
As well as the terrible and forgettable ones.
The Blob (1988) should have at least been an honorable mention
I said the same thing. The Thing, The Fly and The Blob are the holy trinity of horror movie remakes. All three of them are better than the originals.
The Blob is my favourite movie🔥🔥🔥
Where is Cape Fear?!
The Mummy, The Mummy Returns, King Kong, Godzilla (don't @ me), Brahm Stokers' Dracula.
Little shop of horrors.
Body snatchers and The Fly and the Thing all benefited from superior special effects. Unpopular opinion, But The Departed seemed like Spielberg just put a movie together to prove how he could get practically every A list actor into one film. Overkill
Departed? Spielberg?
Never knew my favorite Arnold movie was a remake.
just seeing that you put the new IT as better than the original a the vid sticker made me laugh
Stephen King's IT! 1990 way better in my opinion
how
I agree
I think the new Pennywise is creepy but I've always been scared of Tim Curry More
Would have to disagree on IT.
Some missed out movies which I thought were good:
1. The Italian Job
2. The Hills Have Eyes
3. King Kong
4. Casino Royale
5. Cape Fear
6. The Ring
7. The Woman in Black (1989 TV version was better)
8. Dark Water
9. Shutter
10. The Echo
Anything that Keith David is in is already 1000% times better because of his perfect voice.
Dawn of the Dead (2004) over Dawn of the Dead (1978)
I'm sure if watched Document of the Dead, your opinion would change
It's not even a remake. They just borrowed the name.
True
It’s a remake. Follows the same plot.
@@jamiethal1319 A shopping mall is not a plot.
I'd like to see a WotW that sticks closely to Wells's novel.
OK, Boomer. Now go watch some I Love Lucy!
@@Jilac1 Never liked Lucy. Totally overrated.

Thing about the war of the worlds remake is that it is much more based off the original book than the previous movie version. Even had some elements from the novel, such as the Tripods.
I liked the remake of Cape Fear.
How could you forget A star is born. With Lady Gaga
There have been like 4 A Star is Born and The Great Gatsby. Didn't know that there were 4 Invasion of the Body Snatchers though
They forget Dawn Of The Dead from 2004 & Freaky Friday from 2003
Good
The original dawn of the dead is way better
Dawn of the Dead from 2004 is the perfect zombie movie as far as I’m concerned
@@darkmatter_2013 it's the worst, zombies aren't suppose to run, that makes it less scary
Here are 10 movies I think definitely need remakes:
1. Blank Check (1994) - Give the main character an appropriate age love interest
2. Women In Cellblock 9 (1977) - I hate it when the bad guys win
3. Song of the South (1946) - I’ll never understand the controversy surrounding this movie, I thought it was good
4. Disney’s Babes In Toyland (1961) - I think it should be animated this time
5. The Country Bears (2003) - Same with the above
6. The Entity (1982)
7. The Wizard of Oz (1939) - We had the musical, now let’s get a more faithful adaptation
That’s actually all I can think of right now, anyone else want to add to it?
I always thought that whole “Say hello to my little friend” line was from Ace Ventura Pet Detective (which I only saw in a commercial) but it was actually from Scarface which I didn’t even know was a remake.
The birdcage was the number one remake imho.
At one moment I was in disbelief thinking that you put up 2011 over the Carpenter’s masterpiece! You got me
Good God, never THE DEPARTED or HEAT; having a more famous cast doesn't matter when so much of the additions were so dumb.
And again you forget THE MALTESE FALCON
I hate hate HATE when people don’t give credits to the original IT and Tim curry’s performance. You cannot convince me the remake was better, it was ruined by terrible CGI and a super cringy penny wise. Tim curry always!!
I must disagree the original IT is still the best! Tim Curry was the best Pennywise! The Thing remake was better than the original also.
(He was, of course, absolutely robbed of a Best Actor nomination for _The Fly_ but I suspect everyone reading this already knows that.)
_The Departed_ was amazing and finally earned Martin Scorsese his long-overdue Best Director/Best Picture Oscars®. *CHEF'S KISS*
There are so many great movies on this list, some of which I still need to see. Thank you, Mojo.
I'd say "The Crazies" is another great example of a remake surpassing the original.
I know this is a hot take, but I will stand by the fact that Carrie 2013 is the best version of that story because of the characterization of Margaret White, the changes they make with Tommy and Sue, and the way the prom scene plays out.
The IT and War of the Worlds remakes are NOT better than the originals!
Tim Curry’s performance as Pennywise was quite brilliant.
The Miracle On 34th St remake is horrible.
I agree with the list, but two of them I didn't know were remakes.
I recently watched the OG 1984 Dune for the first time. I really enjoyed it. And Patrick Stewart looked really sharp in that black uniform too. Planning on getting the 4k Blu-ray.
The 1990 It is superior.
The original it was way better
Wings of Desire
judge, but for me house of the haunted hill from 1999 is better than the classic film with Vincent Price
Bedazzled (2000) with Brendan Fraser and Elizabeth Hurley.
No, no and NO! The Departed is absolutely NOT and improvement over Infernal Affairs.
Sorry for Martin Scorsese, great filmmaker, and sorry he had to earn his first Oscar with a remake.
The blob 1988 should be on this list . It surpassed the original
I was ready to agree with everything on this list... up until #1. I only watched The Thing a few years ago and I thought it was much better than the remake. But also, there is no way in hell that the remake of The Thing is better than the remake of IT.
The remake of "The Stand" was poorly done. The original is dated but still it was better.
The Mummy. Nothing wrong with the original, but the Fraser version is far superior.
I wouldn't call an another adaptation of a book a remake tbh.
I'm old, I still like the 80s Dune best. I grew up watching it in the 80s. Great movie.
WTF DID YOU SMOKE, PEOPLE FROM WATCHMOJO? MR. CURRY'S PENNYWISE IS F*CKING LEGENDARY!
Infernal Affairs was so much better than The Departed.
disagree with the departed..infernal affairs all the way
free!
I liked the IT remake Bill Skarsgård did an amazing job portraying Pennywise
Atleast IT LOOKS more grounded than the original one
The departed is not better then infernal affairs. It is good but not better
Love love love love love 2017's It and 2019's It Chapter Two, they're my favorites horror films past 2000. The Losers Club provides lots of heartwarming moments and the ending put It novel to a another level
Cape Fear could have been an honorable mention.
Vanilla Sky should be on this list!
Good List.
Another Remakes better than the Originals (in my Opinion):
Kiss of Death, The Last House on the Left, 2001 Maniacs, The Getaway, 13 Ghosts, House of Wax, Texas Chainsaw Massacre
What do you think of "I spit on your grave" 70s vs 2010s?
@@ShinyBurrito Both Versions are good Movies in theyr own, that's why I can't really make a Comparison here.
