I don't care what the list says. I never fully recovered as a child when that alien in Signs walked out of the trees at the birthday.
Same. Stupid child me watching it alone as a kid in my bedroom because I finally got the arial to work on my little box tv.
My crazy self started keeping cups of water around!😂
I can still feel the chill and goosebumps I got the first time I saw that s**t in the theater! One of those reactions you wish you could relive.
I feel that on a deep and fundamental level, I really do!
Scared. For. Life. I still get creeped out walking in from my car late at night.
I thought the CGI in Starship Troopers was really good, especially for the 90s.
Still holds up fairly well today. Not as well as say Jurassic Park, but compared to some other movies, even today, holds up well.
It’s still good CGI in 2024.❤
Yea and it’s not dated in fact it’s a good commentary
Still holds up to this day
Agreed. Strictly for the first movie only, though.
"Signs". A single leg in a corn field gave me a heart attack.
That party scene when it walks by was one of the few times ever I jumped scared in a movie unexpectedly.
I was going to say the same thing. Great movie! It’s currently on TH-cam free with ads.
@@patrickaker4380 That party scene traumatized me for years as a kid
Shook my system as well;the build up plus the reveal definitely sent the shivers up my spine..
My boyfriend saw the movie in theaters. The dad turning toward the window and seeing the alien on the roof of the shed made him stand straight up 😭
The shimmer is probably the most underrated one here imo. It’s VERY existentially terrifying
+1
The shoulda put the bear that shit is horrifying
"The CGI was not the best."
I think you were watching a different version of Starship Troopers to me.
To be fair I think they meant the franchise as a whole. The first one was amazing but the next two....some of the CGI is wonky. That's mostly because they were straight to video low budget features.
@@ianbrewster8934 Yeah, fair point.
Its insane. I watched SST 1 recently and the special effects while a little aged hold up better than some stuff these days. Compare it to iron mans suit in later avengers entries for example. Not even going to talk about Green Lantern.
@@skylarc6063 thats because SST1 was made on a budget of 100 million dollars and about half that budget went to CGI, for the practical effects over 9 different studios worked on the film including: Tippett Studio, Boss Film Studios, and Visual Concepts Engineering (VCE)
Tippett Studio: Used a swarming system to show thousands of bugs in a single scene, and built on the digital input devices used in Jurassic Park to create the bug animation. They also created dead bugs, including some that were burned, using a black expanding foam.
Other companies that contributed to the film's visual effects include:
Sony Pictures Imageworks (SPI)
Industrial Light & Magic (ILM)
Amalgamated Dynamics

I like how the White Spikes wasn't in the video
Can't believe The Blob was left off of the list. The terrified me as a kid.
Not to be greedy, but it would have been nicer with timecodes. :)
The Thing is number one for me.
same
100%
Always will be. Can't get better than Rob Bottin.
The Thing is the last movie to scare me. It was on cable all the time in the early 80's when I was in elementary school and it did some damage to me lol
@@Elthenar Well then you’re probably braver than most people
Suprised the aliens from Independence Day weren't on the list.
Yeah, I was like: where the hell are the independence aliens?
@@kamipollna225 Bright burn is just an evil superman
@@kamipollna225 Wouldn't call the Independence day aliens scary as they are as brent spinner's character Dr Okun says in the first movie..."as fragile as humans". They wield powerful technology but short of that I wouldn't call them very scary...just deadly when they use their city destroying beam weapons and shielded fighter crafts.
They weren't scary if you ask me. Intimidating but not scary
Likewise, the Invaders from Mars always get left off lists like these.
"Fire In The Sky" is/was pure nightmare fuel and had me shook for weeks when I was a kid
This. I remembered the alien scenes from Fire in the Sky when I watched it as a kid but couldn't remember the name of the movie. When I finally watched it as an adult for the first time, it unsettled me beyond belief, especially after my dad told me about the real life story that inspired it.
Yup! I remember being about 11 or 12 years old and trying to unsuccessfully convince my parents to let me hire the VHS from a video store (remember those?). I then forgot about the movie and ended watching it on TV a few years later, when I was about 16. It scared the absolute shit out of me and still does, 27 years later!
Yup me to..
Attack The Block is in my top 5 all time favourite alien movies!! It's absolutely BRILLIANT!! The effects, the script, the actors, are absolutely perfect.
Not too many people remember the movie, but the aliens from The Forgotten still live rent free in my mind all of the time. The concept that an alien race is constantly doing experiments on abducting children and wiping their parents brain to keep humanity docile was crazy for the time. Also, when anyone started to remember the aliens would abduct the person immediately, mess with the memory of who witnessed it and would modify the surroundings to make sure the experiment went on was a different level of "WTF???!!"
Was so pleased to see Jean Jacket and Clover on the list. Almost made up for Calvin from Life being omitted.
Also the trailer for The Fourth Kind absolutely terrified me.
Jean Jacket ? you’re kidding right
Calvin is like a newer version of The Thing.
CALVIN FROM LIFE …………….
yep, one freaky alien for sure
Calvin getting through that glove 😮
Underrated movie
And when they found it on that guys leg? Aggghh!
Relentless, intelligent, and with the body horror element - similar to the xenomorph. I think Calvin should also be right up there.
Ack ack ack what no love for the aliens from mars attacks.
"Don't run, we are your friends."
And another ACK For good measure!
They're not scary though
they're not scary? they're not even meant to be scary...
You can’t deny the moment they decide ‘fuck you’ and start melting people is pretty darned chilling
The Thing scared the heck out of me as a kid back in the 80s. Now, it's my favourite sci-fi/horror movie.
Calvin from the movie "Life" should also be here. That alien gives me the creeps.
I'm honestly disappointed to learn that Calvin didn't make the list.
Holy shit you are right that's one brutal killer.
@@csav1551 they did poke him when they clearly shouldnt. it acted in self defnse like any intelligent life form would. but yeah, it as one big ugly MF
John Carpenter's The Thing is truly a horrifying spectacle to behold
I barely watched it this year, it’s so good.
I don't know if Pennywise should count as just an alien, he's more like an eldritch, Lovecraftian entity
In the novel it's an alien, but I prefer your interpretation.
@@kojiattwood Thank you
I never found either version from both mini series to be creepy. Just a bit odd looking.
The aliens from “No One Will Save You” I thought were kinda creepy
scarier then most on this list, for sure.
Totally forgot about that movie, it's pretty good and the sound design is brilliant.
Deeply unsettling! I loved the design of the first "Grey" who attacks but the variations (Short and jumpy and long-limbed and splindly) were rather silly
What about the White Spikes from Tomorrow War? They’re pretty scary!
Bro, the birthday party scene from the movie signs
"They Live" is a documentary.
Predator never stop hunting
Always have always will
They have a code of honor like they can’t kill defenseless people , children, old people , ect
I've had nightmares about Xenomorphs and nothing else on this list
5:55 What are you talking about? That creature was EATING PEOPLE!!!
Honorable mentions for me:
- The Blob (1958, 1988 remake)
- Krites (Critters, 1986)
- Space Vampires (Lifeforce, 1985)
- Aliens (Night of the Creeps, 1986)
- Alien (The Hidden, 1987)
Brooooo, the Blob (1988 version) messed me up for YEARRRRRRS... even now if I hear a funky noise coming from a sink drain, I leave the room IMMEDIATELY 😭😭😭 oh hell nah lol
@@akielstrakerhaha me too, that and The Thing by far the scariest alien movies.
Glad to see someone else thought the space vampires from Lifeforce were as scary as I thought!
The creature from Super 8 was only eating people because people had held it prisoner for 30 years and it needed something to eat on it's way home. It might not have known where or how to find other sources of nourishment in the short time it had to build a ship and get away. Definitely the humans fault for that.
I have never been more creeped out by any secene more than the Alien walking by and starring at the camera in Signs.
Independence Day alien scared the absolute shit out of me when I was young. How it didn't make this list is I do not know!
There's basically nothing Horror about Independence Day, only for very short they reveal the alien which was slightly threatening. Later on they added a comedic value to them.
This movie wasnt made to strike fear into people, it was ment to be a spectacle. I think its one of the least deserving movies for this list.
I think Star Ship Troopers still has great CGI.
It does but this is Watchmojo and they have poor taste.
“Fish muppets and puppets to stir the fears up, I squeeze screams outta chocolate syrup!” Alfred Hitchcock
Genuinely one of the best ERBs that they've done, love that one
“I'm the best mamma-jamma ever stood behind the camera!
Damage panderers and haunt you like the last Indiana!”
I understood that reference
@@CakiemakieI agree
@@Alderam95Cut, give me a Tylenol stop rhyming yall
The aliens with the knees from The Arrival always freaked me out. Not Arrival. THE Arrival.
The 2005 War of The Worlds adaptation is one of my favorite movies. I've never seen a movie where terror is so perfectly captured.
There’s been like 4 movies in my entire life that have had impact on me, whether it’s the age I’ve initially watched them at, the imagery, whatever.
The Fourth Kind was probably the second movie to ever actually give me an uneasy feeling.
I remember watching Communion years ago. Those damn aliens scared the piss out of me!!
We need Dead Space Rated R big budget live action movie.
with necromorphs? damn, this would be frikin insane. but only as long as they stay close to source material. i LOVE first DS, 2 and 3 are more of an action shooter than horror survival game.
I feel like venom is a pretty killer alien.
Adding aliens from comics opens up to many others
Death angels - A quiet place are sort of Venom's cousins they even have similar mouth and supersonic sounds as weakness.
Having not yet watched the video, I can confidently assume that in first place will be either “The Thing” or a Xenomorph
Xenomorpths from Aliens. Those things are scary
The thing is the scariest alien movie to exist
@@ironhelmet4996 Imagine a "Xeno-thing"... I dunno if the Thing would be able to assimilate Xenos due to their blood and all
@@tokidensetsu the aliens from the thing can do a lot of damage since they function in a different way they can infect beings and at a certain time blow them from the inside just like xeno add to that the fact that even when they are dead they can still infect beings just watch it you will not regret it
@@ironhelmet4996i agree 👍🏻
...which was literally number 1 on this list.
Aliens from Mars Attacks! should on this list.
They undercut their strategy for cheap gags too frequently to make the cut, IMO.
@@sharondornhoff7563idk when I was a kid that gun that would turn humans into green skeletons scared the shit outta me.
The CGI in Starship Troopers is better and more natural looking than in many current day super expensive blockbusters, despite the fact it's over 25 years old. And at the time, it was groundbreaking.
i think the alien from Europa Report is probably the one that scared me the most. Just imagine falling through the ice on Europa and coming face to face with something that you have no chance of fighting. Plus with it being an alien you have no idea how it will kill and devour you, maybe it rips you apart or maybe it sucks out your blood or maybe it drags you to a lair to feed to its offspring. Getting killed on earth would be bad enough but being on an icy ocean world far from earth would be worse. id also add the creepy alien kid from vivarium.
I'm Bleethian. Europans are not that bad. Its just...they see what's happening on terra and they're not keen on the intrusion. No invite? Don't go. Just....don't.
that movie is underrated for sure. i had reservations based on public opinion, but in the end it was actually good movie.
I think The Blob deserves a spot on this list. Gave me nightmares as a child. The smooth version, not the one with chunks.
Anyone else note Veronica Cartwright in" invasion of the bodysnatchers?"
Yup
Jeff Vandermeer( who wrote Anihilation) is a very...unusual ... writer. His book "Finch" has one of the best finales I have ever read. Totally epic.
The mimics were not that scary looking but their speed and the ability to reset any loss makes them nearly unstoppable.
The xenomorohs from Aliens were terrifying to me as a kid.
Signs should have been top 10 imo. Didn’t even mention how they can camouflage, spray poisonous gas, read minds, jump super high, or how they came here specifically just to harvest us. It’s also the way they look though, tall, eerily humanoid but with an almost ape like face and dog like feet. Even the way they communicate in clicks is creepy. It’s one of the most easy to imagine as real alien invasion movies I’ve ever seen.
Yeah, but the fact that they can be killed by water ruined it for me
Not scared of them after the first time I watched the movie
The Death Angels remind me a little bit of the Demogorgons from Stranger Things, just some different abilities.
The aliens in no one will save you creeped me out! Every single one of them lol.
Something kind of funny is that, aside from the big eyes, the aliens from "They Live" remind me a lot of Fallout's ghouls, with their skullish faces.
"Altered" is another great alien flick, with a real zinger of an ending.
I dont know about anyone else but i still have nightmare of the alien, Calvin, from Life, just the thought of it being incredibly intelligent while also brutally animalistic with how it hunts is terrifying
I was disappointed the aliens from no one will save you wasn't on this list
Seeing this after making my comment on it 😭 Glad to see I'm not alone!! They were the stuff of nightmares fr
"The Tomorrow War" is a bad movie, but the aliens deserves to be high on this list.
Absolutely not, to the aliens from Signs. Those are possibly the least scary aliens in all of cinema. What's scary about a creature whose greatest enemies are Evian, Dasani, and Aquafina? That alien in the birthday party clip probably just peaced out because it saw a 7 year old with a super soaker.
I haven’t even watched this yet and I know that the xenomorph is making first
I am loving the list, great video! Here's the aliens/movies I wished had made the cut:
the Day the Earth Stood Still
Independence Day
and my personal favorite (maybe because it's newer and absolutely haunted me to the core)
No One Will Save You.
Glad you included Dreamcatcher one of my faves, also the Thing and Cloverfield,we need a part 2,many more to add, thought I would see Skyline here.
The aliens from Arcadian were some of the best I've seen!
The space vampires from Lifeforce are pretty terrifying.
The CGI in starship troopers is actually very good for it's time and is still better than a lot of the crap they're giving us now days.
Anything from another planet is alien to us but the deep sea creatures from underwater would be a terryifying alien on other planets
Actually the CGI in starship troopers has held up pretty well… and it was ahead of it’s time back then.
Honestly I'm not surprised that the xenomorph is first ..... RIP Hr giger
I will never recover from the first Alien movie. Xenomorphs are freaking terrifying.
Arcadian (Nicholas Cage) - not subtle, sometimes comically ridiculous but undeniably scary.
That is a very good list, have to rewatch some of those.
Now, analyzing the Aliens of “Edge of Tomorrow” they kinda resemble to the Lambent Creatures of Gears of War 3. Also, when they die the stand as stalks, just like the Lambent Stalks!
I never remembered where it came from, but I watched Fire in the Sky when I was young and the wall of pods and that abduction scene stayed burned in my memory forever.
Honestly, who DIDN'T know Aliens (Xenomorphs) and The Thing were going to be #1 and #2?
No I haven't scared of my favorite aliens off our list on TV or on Hulu or on the DVDs like The Mimics Edge of Tomorrow and Aliens Communion and Alien Beasts Attack the Block and The Strangers Dark City and The Shimmer Annihilation and Cooper Super Eight and Skin Thief Alien Under the Skin and Jean Jacket Nope and Owl Aliens The Fourth Kind and Clover Cloverfield and Death Angels A Quiet Place Franchise and The Greys Dark Skies and Brandon Breyer Brightburn and The Aliens Signs and Sil Species and Aliens (AKA Ghouls) They Live and Mr. Gray Dreamcatcher and The Bioraptors Pitch Black and The Killer Klowns Killer Klowns from Outer Space and The Pod People Invasion of the Body Snatchers and The Grey Aliens Extraterrestrial and The Arachnids Starship Troopers Franchise and The Aliens War of the Worlds and The Long One Slither and IT IT Franchise and The Extraterrestrials Fire in the Sky and The Grey Aliens V/H/S 2 and Predator Predator Franchise and The Thing The Thing and The Xenomorphs Alien Franchise
The award for "number of times using the word 'Gray' in a video" goes to WatchMojo.
Quiet place: did the aliens gas every insect on earth somehow first?
Signs: wouldnt the dew and water vapor of a temperate night melt them?
Where are the Whitespikes ? I know the tomorrow war isnt really horror but more science fiction. But the way those things swarm they´re prey and are hard to kill is just terrefying. Sorry if I spelled some words wrong.
new alien romulus hybrid is utterly terrifying
Scary creature candidate: The evolved roaches from Mimic (1997) and the Morph from the Relic (1997).
The thing is with out a question "NUMBER 1" because of Assimilation, it can easily take on all the other aliens forms abilities and all their traits even your own mother !
Game over man, Game over!
Annihilation is even more terrifying... if you begin to understand why.
I saw Alien for the first ti.e when ilI was 13, and I didn't sleep for a month. The no. 1 spot is well deserved.
IT isn't an alien... what are you doing mojo. IT is the Crimson King.
M Knight is not a "once promising director". He's made some of the most memorable movies of all times. Signs was so creepy I couldn't walk home from the theatre alone after I watched it with a friend.
This voiceover is selling anything like all American brainwashed bubblegum, if death or enlightenment. This creeps and alienates me definetly the most.
1. Xenomorph
2. Neomorph
3. Predator
4. Indepence Day aliens
5. Quite Place "Death Angle's"
6. Martians "War of the World's"
7. The blob
8. Venom/Riot/Carnage
9. Edgar "Cockroach from MIB"
10. Prawns "District 9"
11. Arachnid "Star Ship Troopers"
12. Brain bug "Star Ship Troopers "
I definitely shouldnt be watching this just before bed
I'm not even mad at the Top 3 BUT I'd place the Thing at the top since it can imitate anything and can hide in plain sight before it's prey can realize they are about to be assimilated...
Skyline? Those alien ships cannot be destroyed literally, they nuked one in the movie and also the Alien units were pretty terrifying.
I missed the alien monster from indie film Outlander on this list es well as the „shrimp“ from District 9.
Interesting that they didn't feature Ridley Scott's Alien...perhaps the quintessential movie alien
Too many great aliens in this list. Hard to pick one or two. Pitch Black and A Quiet Place has gnarly aliens but the oldest visible alien is the xenomorp and and he's pretty badazz.
The Thing should've been number 1, its by far the scariest movie Alien.
Totally agree, absolutely horrifying.
Technically it’s more like a virus, not really an alien, but what it does to people is scary
The original version
Nah, the xenomorph earned its place
Ah yes "Fire in the Sky". Did see the movie as a kid and i was thinking about now for many, MANY years what the name was. Thank you WatchMojo now i know the Name.😁
I think, somewhere on the top positions there must be monsters from Neill Blomkamp's Rakka
Pitch Black made me a Vin Diesel and Riddick fan. I'm still hopeing for a new one. Starship Troopers is still one of my favorite movies.
An error regarding the alien from Super-8. Whatever the army had done to it first, it was still killing and eating random people as it was trying to build its ship to escape.
A victim? Very much.
Innocent? Not at all.
No independence day alien? No Stargate aliens? Whoever made this list approves of mind control
Some very scary creatures. The Mimics,Clover,Death Angels,Brandon Breyer,The Long One,IT,The Arachinds,The Gray Aliens,Sil,Mr Gray,The Extraterrestrials,Predator,The Thing. The Xenomorphs,epic! Great choice😀Perfect!😀Great video!😀
calvin and the skull bear from the annihilation that makes human voices freaks me out
Dark skies is the best depiction of aliens/sleep paralysis feeling of all time
whitespikes from "the tomorrow war" were missing in this list
The aliens from the 1st x files film were scary as hell. Why aren't they included?
My favorite scariest movie alien is the sky aliens from Skyline.
Erm... the Cloverfield monster wasn't extra-terrestrial, but a deep ocean aquatic terrestrial creature, though this isn't made obvious in the film!
