Foreign Visitor's Guide to India's Wagah Border Ceremony in Amritsar, India 🇮🇳

- We have crossed many borders on our travels, but we have never been to a border like this one! This is the Attari Wagah border between Amritsar, India, and Lahore, Pakistan. Join us as we present the foreign visitor's guide to India's Wagah Border Ceremony in Amritsar, India. This border ceremony, also known as the Beating Retreat, is performed every evening as the sun goes down. Both sides of the border put on exciting and entertaining military performances with marches, high kicks, and lots of music and chants. The ceremony is about 45 minutes long and ends with the lowering of both countries' flags. Just days before, we had planned on walking across the border from India into Pakistan. Due to an issue with the kids’ visas, we were not allowed to cross this trip. We had to change our travel plans at the last minute, but we hope to return to Pakistan. Although our time is ending in India, we still have a few more things on our list before we go!

ABOUT US
We are the Bags Packed Family: Jonathan and Kelly with our three children. We sold our home in Alaska, USA, eight years ago, and headed overseas. We are teachers and found fantastic teaching positions in Chennai, India. Two years later, we moved to the United Arab Emirates. Three years after that, during the beginning of the pandemic, we made the move to our current teaching jobs in Indonesia. We love traveling and finding adventures as a family. We hope that our travels will inspire and provide our children with the confidence to meet new people, try new foods, and enjoy learning a new language.
