Kevin, you have reminded us a very important practice that should be our daily living. Humble ourselves like Jesus. If Jesus lived His heavenly life then there wouldn't have been salvation May your prayer be a reality in our daily life. Glory to God. Thanks Lord
6:19 President Worthen is one of those humble men “who have cultivated their capacities of mind and spirit, who have developed an uncommonly large store of knowledge and wisdom.” Thank you for the wonderful words.
While I was working on a degree in music, I observed that the best musicians were humble and were always trying to learn and improve their musicianship. Arrogant students either washed out of the program or realized they were now with musicians who were better than themselves, which opened them up to learning. When we had master classes presented by professional musicians, I noticed that all of them, no matter how many years they had performed or the caliber of musicians they had performed with, had a desire to improve their musicianship. During the years I taught high school band I frequently reminded students to leave their egos at the door. Those who did always improved more than those who did not.
I agree. I had a not so humble piano teacher in college. People would ask me why I won't change teachers. I said I need to learn from this so I can be a better teacher. At the end of graduating I was at the point that I didn't even want to see a piano. I moved away and my first calling was ward chorister. That was the Lords nudge to me. I have been teaching for 20 years now and love to see my students progress.
This is a powerful reminder of the greatness of humility and its transformative power to build societies of inclusion and truth. I felt the Spirit as I listened to the words making me want to devote more effort to develop the spirit of meekness and humility with my family and others. I even want more to use humility in my understanding of self and ideas. I hope diligently to remember these words, things I already know in my head but now more in my soul. I may not go to BYU, but the good things that come out of her bless all willing to pay attention.
It never fails: What I needed to hear at the precise time I needed to hear it. I spent time last night and again today chastising the mother of my 4 yr old of her failures that contributed to the demise of our relationship. Though I do feel it was necessary moving forward as co-parents, in hindsight if I were as humble a person as I should be, my comments to her would have been much shortened and less accusatory...perhaps had I thought about it more I may not have said anything at all. I use the word "Chastising" as I know that is how it came across, though I did not view it that way at the time. Humility would have reminded me that everyone is their own worst critic, thus there was nothing I said that she likely had not already said to herself. Please forgive me K.O., and please forgive me Heavenly Father.
Excellent talk and reminder of humility. I was touched about your story of Brother Hernandez. It brought me to tears. Thank you for your counsel and how important it is to do this in our lives. ♥️
THANK YOU Bro. Worthen🌻 I enjoyed your facts AND your personal testimony about being humble. Bro. Hernandez sounds like an AMAZING man, and I hope to be a FRACTION of how faithful he is one day🙏🏼🥰 I've been "compelled" to be humble often, but as a middle aged woman who has various health issues, I feel ok with it if that's what it takes to keep me close to our Lord Jesus Christ 🤍🕊🫂 I hope you and your students have a VERY BLESSED 2022🙋🏻♀️
Amen! The story of Brother Hernandez is an amazing reminder to me that even if I feel silly standing up for what I believe in or living my standards, it is more important for me to have courage and live my life in a way that aligns with the will of our Heavenly Father. Very powerful and inspirational :)
Thank you very much for this timely message, I am grateful of our leaders and teachers in this church for they are helping us become a better disciples of our savior Jesus Christ.❤
I absolutely love this talk, but I would recommend re-titling it something like: “The Courage to be Humble,” because I think that perhaps Fear is one of the biggest stumbling blocks to embracing and developing humility. Thanks for the great insights!
Thank you.. Infinite thumbs up for BYU, you, and BYU Devos. Jessica

Loved the story about the sweet humility of the brother getting baptized.

And of accepting your own failures for the demise of the relationship?
