  • I recorded this walk down Hunt's Pier in 1988. The summer after I shot this, most of the classic rides on the pier were removed to make room for a large looping coaster. The owners eventually went bankrupt and the looping coaster was also removed. The pier is now owned by the Morey organization and is primarily used for storage and ride maintenance.

Thank you for sharing this. I loved seeing the Boardwalk as i remember it from my childhood. I played so many rounds of Mini golf there!

The Pirate Ship... with the tilted rooms & quicksand, skeletons, that was the best... thanks.

yes...it was our favorite too! Don't forget the rope bridge at the end with all the pirates drinking their rum.

It's a real crying shame that Hunt's Pier is defunct. That was the best pier on the Wildwood Boardwalk. I visited it between 1980-1983. Too bad Dinosaur Beach didn't last as well. At least they have a cool mirror maze on the boardwalk end. But the rest of the pier is just storage and maintenance and go-karts. This vid as well as Michael Hawthorne's vid from 1988, and Mel Toxic's 1986 vid takes you back to when Hunt's Pier was still intact although under new ownership 1986 and up.

Thank you! My grandmother had a summer home in Wildwood and my family would vacation there every year in the 70s to early 80s. Hunt's Pier was my favorite place on the boardwalk.

I miss this Wildwood, it had better shops like the Nut Hut and Fun Shop. There were multiple piers with fabulous attractions like the giant slide. Thank you for the post, it takes me back to a better time.

Every year my family stayed at 424 E Poplar and later at night I’d sit on the porch and listen to the sounds. Across from the pier was a wonderful shop, an arcade, movie house and mini golf. 50 years later, I still had my wooden nickel! It was so sad when Mr. Hunt passed away. He had build something truly special.

Always loved the Whacky Shack and the Golden Nugget Mine Ride as a kid. In fact, that’s why I love exploring abandoned mines today as an adult here on my TH-cam channel!

I checked out some of your videos...you are nuts going in those old mines. I'll stick to the old fake falling timbers gag rather than the real thing. Stay safe friend!

Dark in the Park What can I say? I also love haunted houses to this day. And I owe all that to the Whacky Shack and the other haunted house that had live actors in it on another pier. I also remember the walkthrough pirate ship called Skua on Hunt’s Pier. These things greatly influenced my childhood imagination every June when we would go there for a week on vacation.

@@AbandonedMines11 The Skua was our favorite ride on Hunt's. I would love to go back in time and do one more walk-through...with a high quality camera.

@@briancrowley6413 Yep, after Bud Hunt sold it Feb 1986 it went downhill. The Hunt's took pride in their pier and the custom built rides, the new owners not so much. In fact, after 1988 several rides including the Flyer were destroyed. The pier was Dinosaur Beach 1996-1998 then was bought by the Morey's and had go-kart rides, and the Golden Nugget just sat. The log flume was taken apart and sent to a park in Iowa where it was rebuilt. Now, the pier has a mirror maze along the boardwalk.
