Ahhh...the Wildwoods in the 70's, I remember them fondly. What I wouldn't give to turn back the clock to this simpler fun loving time !! Thanks Joe for making me feel OLD ! ⛵️ 🍦 🍺 🍕 🎢 🎟🎠 🚲 ⛱ ❤️

78' to 84' is when my parents took me there as a kid and I have my fondest WW memories, love seeing old footage of what was there and what didnt end up in our old photos but you have memories of seeing. I love seeing stuff that is constantly there through the years and decades like the Douglass Fudge pavillion, the bike rides in the morning certain motels. I still miss seeing the old sight seeing boats like the flamingo and the one that had the big seahorse on the front. I had heard they were convereted from old WWII P.T. boats. Thanks for sharing this it is great!

This is really great! 1971 was the start of my childhood summer vaction memories in Wildwood. "Kong" was not there yet. Remember all the great music blasting out of the speakers on the boardwalk... I swear I heard the song "Brandy" every 10 minutes. The summer of 1975 was the best... "Love Will Keep Us Together" was #1 and the movie 'Jaws' was scaring the hell out of everyone... I saw it at the Blaker theater. I really looked forward to eating dinner at Zaberer's back then. Thanks for uploading this... the quality is fantastic!

I was here in 1970. We all went to see Airport at the Blaker. So many great memories here. It's a shadow of what it once was. Just visited another childhood hangout last weekend. I walked the boardwalk at Seaside Heights and actually cried at what I saw. A very stark realization that my childhood is long gone and I cannot revisit any physical memories. It really hurts.

Yeah I remember Little movie JAWS. I remember all the girls down there too. My grandmother rented Apartments. There was no place better ever to live.
At least not too ME. Does anybody remember the shamrock. Eddie Money used to play. I used to work at The Penalty box He Played there for years. Boy, what is that wild.

Wildwood was a huge part of my childhood. My parents would take me every summer for an entire week. We would stay at the Rio hotel across from the Aquarius in the SAME room every year ....room 222. It broke my heart when it was torn down. But I have the room 222 keys and my mom got the desk and the painting that were in the room. I haven't been there in almost 7 years due to moving to Wyoming. Hopefully I'll be able to take my wife there someday.

Born in Cape May Court House NJ, I spent my youth growing up in South Jersey. I did move to Florida in 1988, but please don’t hold it against me. Lol. 😉 I love Florida, but there’s nothing like the place you grew up in. Spent so many great summers in Wildwood and Cape May.

Excellent video. I spent 2 weeks every August staying beach block on 22nd Street in N. Wildwood. Started around 1971 when I was born up until 1987 when I out grew the family vacations. Still came down with friends and spent senior week 1990 there. Took my wife and 2 boys there for many, many years until we moved to S. Florida🌴🌞👍🏻

For me it was 8th and Surf then 20th and Pacific every summer after that. Great memories. Too bad the "old Wildwood" is mostly gone now. All built up now... it's lost a lot of charm.

I remember going to Wildwood, NJ in a white 69 Chevy Chevelle four door with a luggage rack on the roof rolling down the Garden State Parkway South, doing 70 MPH and my grandpa at the wheel in August 1976, when I was 3 years old. We stayed in a lime green bungalow . Aside from the boardwalk, I always Was most fond of the houses on the dead ends, leading to the Bay. Best sea water air in the world...

Wow! Thanks so much Joey! I was born in '62 and was there every year up into the 90's. My parents had a trailer at King Nummy Trail campground from about '74 till '82 when my mom passed. Her Aunt Peg had a little variety store on Pacific ave. From the late 50's up until about '72 or so. Mom had been going there since she was a teen! So many memories in a much better time!😢 In '76 I was 14 and it was about the best year ever!!! I'd give anything to go back to that time for just 1 weekend! Again, thanks so much Joey!!!😎👍👍👍

This video is priceless. Thanks for posting. My parents took their honeymoon in Wildwood in the summer of 1970 and the footage is very nostalgic. Could it be possible does anyone know if there are any episodes of the old WHATS (What's Happening at the Shore) show that used to be on the local cable channel (Channel 13?) in the late 1970's, 1980's? If anyone could ever post those, that would be great.

Thank you so much. My parents honeymooned in Wildwood and we went there every summer in the 60-70-80s. All of my family is gone now, including my only sibling, and this takes me back to when things were so good, less complicated, and wholesome. Bike rides on the boardwalk in the morning. Fresh squeezed orange.
On to the beach and pool by day. Nap (Marlane Motel) before dinner on the boardwalk somewhere. And riding ride after ride on the pier. And trampolines! Loved those.

Ohh the memories of my childhood summers. I loved going down there. Watch the tram car please. We stayed at the Nassau and the Waikiki motels until my parents bought their condo. It was a great place to be. We always made a point to go to Cape May twice during our many trips.down the shore. When I got older, going to the Playpen was a must. I returned many times with my hubby and our daughter. I sure do miss the Wildwoods.

Imagine no sunscreen, no seat belts, no belts for kids on back of bikes, no cell phones, kids being able to rent boats, guys with cut off jeans with belts as bathing suits and just 100% all in family time. Lucky for everyone back then to experience a simpler way of life. Thanks!

Great video, we went there every year all through the 70's. Drove down from Toronto and stayed primarily at The Lampost 19th and beach. Great family time and memories. Hassles golf, morning bike rides, Ed's Funcade . We spent a fortune on the Cap't Fantastic Elton John pinball machine. The rides, tramcar, deep sea fishing, lots of flounder, boardwalk restaurants and skill games were awesome times. Family together for two weeks, times we would never duplicate. Of course the beach was the best time ever, with the Fudgy Wudgy man.

I didn’t see the old Draculas Castle. What year was it built? I used to love it. I was heartbroken when it burned down.

That does seem unfair. On the other hand, I don't know if it's really technically considered part of the overall "resort" since most Wildwood-goers don't vacation there.

Can't believe how close that large tourist boat is to the shore at 12:12. Wouldn't be surprised if a swimmer got killed by that thing.

It's funny you bring that up. I asked the guy who was a deckhand on that boat and said that it really wasn't that close but it looks like it was

    Great stuff!! Thank you!!
I was lucky to be a kid vacationing in Wildwood in the '60s-'70s. Every year we crossed the rickety bridge, full of excitement and wondering what new amusements we would find on the boardwalk piers! It was the best place to be for a family to unwind together and not care about anything for a whole week!
Just wondering, where would a half hour promotional video like this have been shown? Was it made for theaters?

yes it was shown in theaters. I have a few more to upload as well! :-)

This brought back lots of memories for my mom... when you did the transfer did you crop the 4:3 (I’m assuming the original is a 16mm print) to 16:9?

Interesting that there are people carrying a Sinclair dinosaur statue on the beach at 13:35 in this video, and now Sinclair is opening a gas station there 50 years later.

I would routinely walk the beach from grandma's house on Monterrey ave to the Singapore. I thought it was one of the nicest beachfront hotels that I considered kind of upscale. I would take advantage of their large pool hoping that no one would confront me and throw me out. Great memories of a bygone era; I wish I could turn back the hands of time.

I have a pic of one trip to Wildwood where the shuffle board set up is in the background, too many shirt shops nowadays on the Boardwalk, and shysters with their rigged games, certainly not the same as back in those days, all the doo Wop Motels are gone, progress I guess.
