    Hello Miss Kelly! I am absolutely enchanted with how you bring your art together. For example, I have noticed in all your altered books you add cohesion by subtle repeation. Such as repeating a color - blue - using different shades of blue. Treating both pages as a single spread, using element placement and/or a border, is another aspect of your work that I enjoy. I find these gently add much visual interest to the entire work. In this flip through, my favorites are all little journals tucked away and carving into the pages. You definitely created so much fun here, presenting it in an unexpected and lovely package. Thank you! 🌹🌼❤️🌼🌹

      Why thank you, Miss Debra. This makes me truly happy. My altered books are the favourite thing that I make, the thing I hope I am working on the day I shuffle off to that big art supply store in the sky. They don't sell as much as I would like (although some, and I am working on a commission for a collector) as I suspect they are harder to display than a painting or whatnot. That makes me sad in a way but on the other hand, I get to keep them for myself and that makes me happy in a lot of ways. Thank you for your kind words, Debra. 🌷🌼🌻

      @@BookandPaperArts about them being harder to display: I sent my family this message Thursday: So I've decided that I need TWO Beauty and the Beast sized libraries. One for regular boots and the other one full of mixed media altered art books like this. Which makes having a third one for crafting supplies a most logical decision
      th-cam.com/video/NkenbE3gUmA/w-d-xo.html&feature=share As I said, I'm enchanted with the mixed media art tucked away in a book.

    Your idea of using a board book is awesome! Even though its not a huge book you've managed to pack it full of all sorts of wonderful little journals and tags. Thanks for sharing your tips and techniques too.

      And I just saw this comment. Catherine, back in the day I only made board books as I was really into carving arches and niches and whatnot. The only problem is that a board book does NOT chunk up so it is a completely different animal, altered-book-wise. Do you make them?

      Why thank you, Barbi. I certainly have learned so much about bookmaking and video making since then but I do kind of like how I had the courage of my ignorance/innocence. Sometimes you just have to start making where you are! Kelly

    Kelly, Really loving your videos! You are inspiring me to try out different types of book arts other than the typical stitched signature in a hard cover type of junk journal. I have found page layout somewhat challenging, so this is very helpful. I basically create a junk journal that I try to then fill with items, only to find myself fearful of damaging the binding while working in it. Keep these great ideas coming!

      Thank you for the feedback. It really helps me going forward with creating videos. Recently I have posted some videos specifically about making and layering a journal page, so you might want to check those out, too. Don't be afraid to "do it wrong"! Just keep layering and scribbling. 🌞

    Hi, Kelly--I am wondering whether I could sandpaper the shiny cover/pages like you showed for glossy magazine pages and then put on the gesso? It looked like stripping the glossy layer off could be hard? Thank you for any advice. Best,
    Tina

    • @BookandPaperArts
      @BookandPaperArts  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Tina, You can certainly try. The scratchiness will help the gesso to grab on and it may be enough. I find better results with removing the glossy paper but that doesn't mean it is the only way. Feel free to let me know if I can troubleshoot but If you really get into altering board books, I have an online class for sale that shows everything.

    Do you print the washi images onto sticker paper or vellum or something else? Thank you ☺

    • @BookandPaperArts

      Lynne, I put them on tracing paper which is similar to vellum. TGF recommends sticky paper so that is a different option. (They even have one with hedgehogs!) 💛🦔🦔🦔

    Hi Kelly. May I ask if you seal the chalk pastels or does the water on the page set them?

    • @BookandPaperArts
      @BookandPaperArts  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Believe it or not they set themselves. Although a coat of something never hurts, I have done dozen of these and they do not flake if you let them dry. How about I do a youtube tutorial later this week?

    • @BookandPaperArts
      @BookandPaperArts  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Dianna. I have been making videos for years now and one develops a style. I like to keep a little movement so that the viewer isn't just looking at a static table for minutes at a time. Just a little "cinematic" business.
